Andrew Huberman, Professor of Neurobiology and Ophthalmology, explains how to learn things when your brain is not as young as it used to be. Here you'll find some suggestions how to engage in neuroplasticity after age 25 and increase your focus and alertness. Neuroplasticity isn't just for children - you can still learn and change your brain as an adult. Discover how deliberate, self-directed neuroplasticity can help you improve your cognitive or physical skills, learn a new language, or absorb new information. Find out what you need to concentrate and increase your focus and alertness.

  • I am a hypochondriac. One of my obsessions' is neuroplasticity. I am 24 almost 25, I feel like I didn't learn much and gain much out of my youth. I want to be a very different person who actually knows how to do things but the calcification at 25 makes me feel like I only have 4 months to live and learn everything. These videos provide me some comfort sometimes but at the same time relieving the anxiety by obessing about it is the cause of the problem in the first place. What do I do about this?

    • This is a huge myth my friend. I'm 24 and also struggle with anxiety. At 25 you're hardly any different from 24 or even 22. You still have plenty of time to learn lots of things you didn't learn in your younger years. I know I'm still learning things and always will until I'm elderly and hit the grave. Learning never stops The only age it would be actually harder is when you hit actual old age through it would still be possible but slower everyone is different and learns at different rates.

    • Me too, but I'm 19 turning 20 this year, I didn't improve my skills since I was in elementary and highschool. After I heard about neuroplasticity and the changing effect after 25, gives me anxiety that I have to chase the wind to improve my skills fast in both job and my hobby skills.

  • Idk about 25 tbh. For me everything I learned before 20-21 is deeper in my brain. Everything after I kinda have to force myself to learn , and things just don’t stick that much, my brain constantly deletes unused information. It’s like building a foundation (as a kid) and then everything on top of that (as an adult) just constantly changes. Kinda annoying, but it’s just a part of being human. You can still learn just takes more effort basically

    • Hey man, went through a major depression which lasted for around 10 months. I got blood infection, trauma, sinus and a liver infection within a span of 10 months. My brain used to be fast af but now every day tasks seem difficult. I am not good at retaining stuff too and everything is a mess, my college exams are near and I'm in my worst mental and physical condition. I was living a sedantry lifestyle for about three months, I used to go for running and light bodyweight exercise but I never did enough. Sleep schedule was fucked up, somewhat still is. Damage has already been done. I don't know what to do.

  • I'm 24 almost 25 And I honestly can't believe this myth is still spreading around. Saying people can't learn as well past 25 is a myth. And it makes makes 25 sound older than it really is. The only time it would actually be harder is when you hit actual old age. Although it would still be possible just a bit slower everyone never stops learning and learns at different rates.

    • It’s just generally harder to learn as an adult than as a kid or a teen. 25 is just a rule of thumb I guess, cuz everybody is different

    • my theory is this is when life becomes in your control and most people arent taught how to teach themselves so the world becomes overwelming and thinking about "how can I learn better" isn't even a consideration because you've "learned" while you're young and now its time to act. when it reality you need to always be learning.

    • I learned classical guitar at 42. Now I'm learning piano at 45. My sons, 9 and 11, are also learning piano. We're learning at the same rate as far as I can tell. The only difference I noticed I got carpal tunnel syndrome and they didn't. So I agree with your statement that this 25 year old cap decline on learning is a silly myth still perpetuated. I'm surprised that Huberman buys into it.

    • I feel as I get older I'm better at the actual act of learning and also more excited to learn than when I was young and took all that neuroplasticity for granted. I also feel more rewarded for the effort I put in now versus when I was younger and just passively absorbed information. Basically: being more mature and grateful for learning has been much more rewarding and effective.
