  • Hi LGR. That was such a very good and interesting update on the 4 impressive and large Ntsevu males and their sister/cousin after a long absence. They're undoubtedly some of the biggest male lions around the Sabi Sands area. It remains to be seen if the single young female will leave her bigger brothers/cousins to find a mate or two and start mating for the very first time. Although the update was very fascinating indeed, it's been a rather long time since they were all last seen hunting the big and dangerous buffalo. Though their fathers are no longer around to show them how to take over a pride or two plus a massive territory, I'm sure they'll learn to do that in the next few months to a year or so. Wouldn't they? I'd like to see a new clip of them all on a exciting buffalo hunt together again very soon one day. They're certainly more than so capable of taking down and killing an adult buffalo, as clips of them doing that have very interestingly demonstrated in the past, but they always seem to get a very good feed from a massive kill of that size there. Though it wasn't the lioness I talk about and mention so much in the form of the five year old Tsalala lioness, it's always nice to listen to and see a update on some of the lions after a long time. Isn't it? I hope their distant female cousin, the Tsalala lioness will feature in a few clips during & throughout the rest of the year. I hope you've picked up the fact that I've mentioned in a few messages that the Tsalala lioness is very heavily pregnant with her own very first litter of cubs right now currently. Her tummy is so round and big like a balloon, that it suggests to me that she's got more than two cubs inside her tummy. But as she mated with one of the two Plains Camp males in about January, and with a 110 day/3 1/2 month gestation period, I shouldn't think it'll be to long now before she gives birth to her cubs eventually. Although I'm not to sure, but I'd think it's been at least a year or so now since the Tsalala girl was last seen in a video clip. However, I can reassure you that she is still alive, well and incredibly healthy. I, like you, will love to see and watch her rebuild her birth pride as well as restoring it's numbers back to it's former glory. Especially as she's been living by herself for nearly 2 1/2 years now. I'd say we could also refer to her by her nickname, "The miracle lioness", due to her amazing and good capability of hunting and raiding cubs by herself. Couldn't we? I think that is just exactly what she will be. And I also can't wait for the time to arrive, when she and her tiny young family are seen in a very large open area on a dirt track with her cubs all in tow. It'll be so nice to see them all in a well taken and clear photo as well. I reckon, though I'm not saying it will happen, but I think there is a chance of the 4 Ntsevu males been good potential breeding mates for her in the far long distant future. What do you think? There's a fairly good and high possibility. I would be very interested to see what your opinion will be on that. That could be something to debate about too. They're not direct siblings, but the 5yr old Tsalala lioness and the 4 Ntsevu males plus their sister/cousin are distant cousins as it'll show in a family tree. The 4 males could well give her a lot of stability and safety, as a very powerful and formidable coalition altogether. Won't they? I bet they wouldn't mind her hanging around in their territory when and once they've got themselves established at long last one day. It'll be good. Though the clip didn't feature any of the leopards today, but just out of interest, do you know what sex the 3 Nkoveni cubs and the 2 Ximhungwe cubs are there yet at all? It might not seem important, but as I'm a big fan of the greatly interesting African wildlife, I'm just very interested to know. I hope they all survive ever so so well and very successfully. I know you haven't seen the 8yr old Three Rivers female for a while now, but she's lactating heavily, as a few days ago, the MalaMala rangers put up a short clip on Instagram, and she's denning two very tiny cubs less than 4 weeks old just a stones throw away from one of their camps currently. So don't forget to watch out for them, in case she brings them on to your land one day. Hope to hear from you shortly. Robert 21.4.24

    • It is going to be an interesting time ahead for the lioness. She will most likely break away from her brothers when she moves on to seek out other males to mate with. If she hangs around with the brothers now she is also likely to mate with them. I think the sexes of the Nkoveni Cubs are 2 females and 1 male. The Ximungwe Cubs were 1 male and 1 female.

    • @londolozigamereserve - Ok, thank you for replying to my message from yesterday. I'm not too sure how old the lioness that's hanging out with her brothers and cousins is now, but I'd think she's in the region of 5 to 6 years old right now currently. I hope she won't be with them for too much longer. I have never heard of a young lioness like her, who could have the potential to mate with her brothers and cousins when she could just go and find other males to breed with. But the four impressive and powerful Ntsevu males are and will be a formidable coalition to be reckoned with one day. I hope they will establish themselves a couple of lion prides and a large territory. And once they've done that, I'd think they will need a new territorial name, too. The adventures of the four males will be very interesting indeed in the weeks, months, and years that are to come and go. I'd like to see more clips of them all hunting buffalo. I also hope you saw and read the bit I mentioned about the now heavily pregnant Tsalala lioness as well. I just love reading the updates on her and how she's progressing to this very day. She's a very special and great character. Whenever you next see her and put up another blog update on her, I hope I'll find her very first pregnancy mentioned in it. In a photo of her resting up there in your property from the 20th of March, not only was she pregnant, but she also looked like she'd had a good meal which made her tummy so round and big, then I reckon she could have a bit more then two cubs inside her. But nonetheless, I, like you, can't wait for her to give birth eventually. I know she can't be in every clip, but I have a feeling that it's been at least a year now since she last featured in one, unfortunately. I do hope she will appear in a few Sunday Virtual Safari video clips during the rest of the year. That so would be great. But I know we'd also like to see and watch her successfully rebuild her clinging on birth pride's former numbers back up a fair bit and restore them to their former glory. I saw a clip of her at Singita last night roaring whilst standing at the edge of the Sand River looking pregnant. Do you think it's a possibility that the 4 Ntsevu males and their sister and cousin will allow her to join them there at all one day? I know they are not completely related as they're not fully direct siblings, but as distant cousins. I think the Tsalala lioness could do with some company, as she's been living by and fending for herself for almost 2 1/2 years now. I hope her giving birth isn't to far away. It's difficult to know how many cubs she's got inside her tummy, but ideally, a brood of at least 3 or 4 cubs will be a great boost for her. And that could be how many cubs she's about to produce within the next couple of weeks or so there. The 3 cubs of the Nkoveni female and the 2 cubs of her younger sister, the Ximhungwe female are very cute, but I hope both females keep their own entire and respective litters and get them all to independence ever so very successfully. I don't know how many litters the Nkoveni female has had in total altogether, but as far as we know, she's only raised 4 female offspring, but no male cubs yet. So if she is able to keep all 3 of her cubs and through to independence, then by that time she would have raised 6 females and her first ever male cub. I know other male leopards who have not sired her cubs could and can pose a threat, but if she is able to leave them in the safety of a ideal tree, then at least they'll be safe from other ground predators that could also pose a threat to and kill them. And maybe she'll do that in the next month or two when they're able to climb trees much more easily. And the same goes for the younger Ximhungwe female too, when she also goes hunting for food and when it comes to leaving her cubs alone whilst she's out. Been left in the safety of a tree could increase the chances of their survival. Especially if they stay there, and just remain undiscovered by other predators and male leopards until their mothers return from hunting or just marking their large territory. Hope to hear from you shortly. Robert 22.4.24

For the time being, I'm including the warrior princess as a member of the coalition. Mfumo, Nsuku, Tinyo, and Nhenha-- all four of these Birmingham Kings could have children among the five lions siblings.

There's got to be brutal fights for dominance. Alll beautiful..Wishing them safety along with their lovely sister who eventually has to find her way cuz these males will soon be looking for prides n or females. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wherever they decide to set up shop…. The main thing is they’re alive. They need to stick together, they have a tendency to split up… and that can end up being costly, as we can see from the events over the last few days/weeks.

  • The lack of experience will lead to this and it looks like it already happened maybe. These guys are 4, PCM's are 2. If they stick together when encountered they have a chance, if they run off, PCM gets one isolated and then its over for that one male. That's how PCMs destroy coalitions
