A few years back i would’ve hated it. But i love this car and its one of the very few electric cars i would consider buying. I like it more than the Model 3 Performance tbh.
Its much nicer than the Model 3 and quicker once it's rolling. Realistically I'd be happy to own either car. In a fantasy world I'd buy a Plaid or a Lucid Air Dream edition... if I had to buy an EV... otherwise I'd buy a M5 Competition :D
@@stubones You realize the LR Model S uses Model 3 motors too? And it’s running 10.7 seconds in the quarter mile? Tesla can easily increase power to those motors if they wanted to.

Glad to hear that it drives like a BMW should. It also looks like a BMW should. But how car makers keep getting away with making interiors worse to save a few euros (see also VW Golf 8) is a mystery to me

Nice review. Interesting that regen automatically precedes caliper braking even in regular drive mode. Impressive seeing the mid-range acceleration. No complaints about handling on wet roads. Still need some wet/snow slalom and skid past tests. Time to let go of Tesla 3 comparisons. Weight differential puts these in different classes. Interesting watching the speed & regen on the dashboard.
In the beggining of the video, the data presented was from an Aston Martin. Apart from that, excellent video as always, one of the best channels out there

You can set regen to adaptive in D. Then it's sailing if there is no reason to slow down

Wow, that 100-200 result is impressive vs Model 3 Performance. Very nice all round BMW EV.
Carwow tested the two cars in drag races and rolling races and the BMW was significantly quicker, especially at higher speeds. It will be interesting if/when Tesla use the same type of motors they use in the Plaid, which don't have that huge acceleration drop off after 100kph.... They just keep pulling hard, like the BMW motors do as well.
But I can still sail past in my 18 year old 528i that does 235 Kph easily......
Yes it's quicker. But gets much much slower after the 3rd run. The 'boost' function only works in the first 3 minutes when you require a lot of power. Just wait for the head to head track comparisons that will come sooner of later. This BMW falls apart after some minutes. It's so too heavy.

With B one-pedal driving, you can sail/coast if you do not take your foot all the way off the pedal. Slowing with regen is as strong or as light as you like, depending on how much you lift off the pedal. There is a neutral spot where no power to or from the motor (coasting).
the way you usually push your brake so u have to release the gaspedal likewise, then the breaking and regeneration works smooth and perfect
My EV dies not have a gas pedal, and I never have to push the brake pedal. Nothing is as smooth as one-pedal. Having two separate pedals to speed up and slow down seems absolutely antiquated. @@Ron-mf2tv

At about 15:15 You say that the car keep delivering power, but isn't it the opposite that we see on the cluster? The "power-bar" is getting grey for a while, and it seems like maximum power is reduced. If so, it is not at all as enduring as the Tesla model 3, which seems to last quite a bit (for an EV) before it gets overheated. Thanks for the review, I really liked it!

Nice review. I think the i4 40 would be best for the UK. Our fastest roads are 112kph speed limit. I would lose my licence if I had an i4 M50. The specification of the BMW i4 eDrive40 is; Acceleration 0-60 mph, 5.5 s ; Top speed, 190 mph (200 km/h) ; Engine power, 335 hp (250 kW) ; Engine torque, 317 lb-ft (430 Nm). The best car .
I think it's the gearing difference allowing the faster acceleration despite the higher weight than the Model 3. The top speed of 140 mph indicates it's running out of electric motor rpms faster than Model 3 perf's 162 mph.
It's mainly done because of overheating. Tesla overheats at top speed and after some time you have to slow down even if battery still has enough charge. BMW can drive at top speed until you drain the battery all the way.
@ lol. The model 3 can also do 124 mph all day long. That's really easy. The reason for the low BMW top speed is because they had to gear it for maximum acceleration to overcome the 1000 lb weight disadvantage vs model 3... And its still slower 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile.
@@jrherita Speed limit on the BMW si done because of overheating. Max speed allowed is the max speed that car can do without issues. In the tesla there is no speed limit but you can't drive at the top speed long because of overheating.

Mate you should change your camera angle, seems like it’s fixed to your head for ease of use but the resulting vid is poorly distorted. Try way of fixing it to chest level, I think it should help with distortion and therefore better overall vid quality.

14:03 is the car throttling power? Look at the greyed out part in the power gauge: 10% are not usable?
If I recall correctly, 100% of the battery is not usable, to prolong battery life, something like 10% is reserved.

Fantastic review, even the criticism of which it is good you mentioned it is YOUR preference, as I personally ordered my M50 exactly because I loved they way they thought the interior and I love all the quirks. But you gave one wrong piece of info - this car has adaptive regen which uses Map data and the radar and, on the highway, it will actually engage sailing and will not regen if there is no car or map obstacle in your vicinity. You were driving the car on regen Low instead of Adaptive, this is why you were regenerating.
How is the endurance? Does it overheat fast if driving hard?
