RETIRED DANCER'S REACTION+REVIEW: TWICE "Signal" M/V+Dance Practice!
WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?!
Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this KZhead name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛

Fun facts: Jihyo was sitting in the car because she was recovering from knee surgery so they thought it was a fun way to incorporate her into the video. Signal was voted the worse song in Kpop when it was released but ended up winning song of the year...lol The power of TWICE has always been there :) This song is iconic!!!

A lot of people didn't understand the MV that's why they hated it but Signal was the deepest Twice MV imo. The person they're trying to impress was ignoring them, hence an alien who doesn't understand. Their powers were more like a representation of their individual talents, and they're trying to show it off to the alien but to no result. The end was the most brilliant thing. In the end they became aliens, a representation that they themselves are alien to someone else's feelings no matter how obvious it is. In short, the one you like who doesn't notice you is an "alien", just like how you're an "alien" to the person who likes you.
im pretty sure the mv means twice are actually aliens who are trying to communicate to the alien so they can go home. the alien is ignoring them because the alien thought they were just trying to show their interest in him but they were just trying to communicate to go home hence the "signal miscommunication" and the ending just proves it.

Yeah! It's like the saying "like a fool in love" The alien is a fool for not getting the signal (or ignoring). And then twice member became the fool itself, for still chasing after the alien even though the alien clearly ignored them.

Actually signal is not bad as many people think, it's really good and the more you listen to it the more it grows to you, I don't know why lot of people don't like this song 🤷🏻♂️ but we have our own taste in music.

SIGNAL is a definition of a distorted masterpiece Many people outside the fandom and even inside the ONCE fandom slandered this song for being very disjointed at first listen (including myself) !! Then when it won the SOTY in MAMA 2017, people especially other fandoms started hating this song lol as you can see in the LIKES TO DISLIKE RATIO and it took time for people to realize how good of a song this was plus honestly TWICE carried the song because of their energy + enthusiasm

Definitely a unique track. It's either you loved it from the beginning or wasn't a fan but it grew on you and then it got stuck (i admittedly fall in the latter group but glad I did). Either way, I don't think ANY group could pull off this song except TWICE.
As a full blown ONCE it always makes me so happy watching a reactor’s journey as they grow and blossom into a fellow ONCE. Your facial expressions are such a perfect visual for how our girls make our hearts feel.
Jihyo has a knees surgeried after knock knock era in march 2017, she only rest for a few weeks until start to shooting signal MV in april and in may she join the full promotion of signal...she is incredible 👏

They actually perform this song not too long ago in KBS festival about 4-5 months ago nobody was expecting it. It was cool to see them perform it recently & also weird since Sana & Jeonyeon weren't there.

Twice always had a leftfield aspect to their songs & videos. I can't wait to see your reactions to their earlier songs [as you are going backwards through their music catalogue], all I can say is they hit the ground running & always improved. Their music & dance routines always cheer me up, especially if I had a bad day. I am impressed with their routines especially since they are 9 members & managing to keep the formations so tight. This song grew on me, I didn't quite get it at the beginning. I am so glad you enjoyed it Thina [take care of yourself].

This might surprise you, but the fandom was pretty...I wouldn't say split, but in mild disagreement over Signal for awhile. I think a lot of ONCEs now acknowledge it to be a pretty good song, and it was veerryyy popular in Korea when it came out, but I think the quirkiness you liked kind of put some fans off. I know I wasn't the biggest fan of the alien concept (and I'm still not) but the song has grown on me a lot over the years lol. It's a pretty good bop, and the choreo's a lot of fun.

they hated signal back in 2017 but they just didn't see the vision. Also, i remember twice getting hate for easy choreo back and while their choreography back then does not compare to the more difficult dances that they do now, its always matched the songs well. I always liked how twice never made dances hard for the sake of being hard, a dance should prioritize matching a song, not being difficult for difficult's sake.

what more amazing is, Jihyo was just got back into "active duty" after her knee surgery, and because of that, for some of their live performances, they tweaked the choreography to facilitated her so she didn't injured her knee furthermore, and that's why she just sat in a toy car and had a x-ray vision for her power, so she can just relax in the MV, if you watch the behind the scene for the MV, you will see that she mostly participating while sitting and when the choreo is not that hard for her recovering knee, and in the large field scene in the MV, while everyone walking to the field to take the shot, Jihyo is get into a car with some crew to the field, she was actually asked to take a rest for awhile until her knee completely healed, but no....she jump right back into action, and if you manage to find and watch a variety show called "ON&OFF" Ep.38, Kim Sejeong (ex Gugudan and I.O.I), one of her bestfriend, still worried about her knee until this day, they planned to hike a mountain together, and then Kim Sejeong asked about her knee's condition, and thankfully she said it's completely fine
