  • I feel sad for Daniel's appa. Daniel is too young to understand his father's struggle. It is not easy being a single father and raising a son who is hitting his puberty. Daniel might be rebellious now , but by the time he realizes his father's sacrifices it would be really late. The one good thing about having an Asian parent is that they keeps worrying about your future more than you. Even when I was Daniel's age I used to get annoyed for every lecture my parents used to give me. But now at 30 I realize how important that were sometimes. I always say that we should not force our wishes on our kids, but seeing at what Daniels Appa is going through , he has no other option. He want to see a good future for Daniel. Korea being a competitive society , it is not easy to get into a good stable job so easily. I hope Daniel becomes a good soccer player and prove his determination to his father.

    • @Melody Bernard - In an earlier episode Leo explained that he and his wife divorced. She is Korean. That is all he shared and the show did not (and still does not) press for further information on that topic. Personal information affects not just Leo. There is Daniel to consider, and also Leo's ex-wife, who is also, of course, Daniel's mother.

    • @@brandytuggle5374 they get stress but different kind of stress, such as stress for losing a game, social media, not able to following new trends. That are kind of stress which boy like him has. Except, if he is a smart diligent boy at school then his stress may be related to grade and school stuff. I agree with his dad, he really need to be forced to learn some skills that useful for his future. Being an artist is one of the example but when you learn a lot of skill in young age, you can be anything in the future. And it's not about learning piano but learn how to be discipline too.

      @jiyuchan17@jiyuchan172 жыл бұрын
    • @@jiyuchan17 well I dont agree with you. Forcing your child to do something they dont wanna do may result that they can be rebellious when they grow up. You have to listen to your child too. If they want to play soccer let them be. Sports required to have to SKILLS too to play it. Not just by playing piano that they can develop skills. Theres a lot of stuff. I have those kinds of parents too, forcing me of doing something that I didnt wanna do. For me it's not a good parenting because everyone (especially you if you have children) should listen to their children. Because if you didnt? Just like me, im not comfortable opening up to my parents, even if I have problems, I dont tell them, im more comfortable opening up to my friends or to someone who would listen and understand me. Or to some other people cases they tend to be rebellious in the future or can develop depression, if that happened? They will not tell you anything about it.

      @erinlee4595@erinlee45952 жыл бұрын
    • every child is different so there's no one size fits all for parenting. for instance, in US maybe there's much opportunities for your kids but in other countries, competition is fiercer that parents do these things in worry of the future of their kids, To you this is just a piano thing but for some asian countries being able to play a piano puts you in another level. One thing I find sad for people judging parents is that they never consider every angle. Yes kids can get stressed but if we don;t push them, how then can they handle stress in the real world when they start working and parents gone? Let's face it, the real world is not considerate of your feelings. Your boss will not console you because you're stressed - no. If we stop forcing them for every stress they make imagine how they'll do when they grow up. Of course there should be limitations and that differs from kid to kid, situation to situation, reasons to reasons so we can't judge parents by our own situation. It's sad that we judge parent by a mere hour-long or minute which actions of both might've been affected by the camera presence.

Music is a form of expression and is best done by people who love it,yes its very cool knowing how to play an instrument but forcing someone to learn it when they have zero passion for it is pointless they will inevitably grow to hate playing that instrument and anyway that's not what art is about

    @blupeppers6437@blupeppers64372 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly and it's not even about playing an instrument but the fact his father straight up want him to be an artist . Even the kid said it's stressful for him ,cause he know he doesn't play for himself but cause his father want him to play and have high expectations . I don't think it's enjoyable to be constantly on pressure when you do something you don't appreciate the kid need to love the music he play , and he need to be more free with it leaving him experiment is the best way to give him and interest. • What I want to hear from is someone that was in YOUR shoes but also has their own kids now and how they approach this.. Too much of it is don't force them to do what they want to achieve.. But parents are there to help shape their children because they understand and can observe what they are lacking.. I took music lessons which I also didn't like.. but at the end even now I realize it helped 1) build confidence when presenting/preforming in front of an audience 2) builds patience and attentiveness because you are required to sit there and practice and focus... However, I do believe there are some parents which are just ridiculous.. ie. they hope their kid becomes a music superstar... in that situation.. they clearly don't know the limits of their children.. however.. Kids need to be pushed to their boundaries.. its a give and take.. gotta know when they are overwhelmed and how far you can be pushed so they can be successful and independent in the future.. otherwise you have kids just end up just wanting to watch tv all the time...

Soccer isn’t a frivolous thing, it’s a lot of hard work, especially if he wants to be a pro. Like learning the piano, becoming pro at a sport takes a lot of time and effort. That should be the thing his dad makes him focus on if his dad wants him to focus on an extracurricular. But I do understand your point about the time management. He’s a kid tho, he just has to learn.

Both of my parents wanted me become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Not every parents want their kids to be perfect in. It’s about letting kids decide what they want to be and being happy at what they good at.

    • If you’re really unhappy, you need to tell them. But you have to be able to present an alternative to what they’re making you take. Try to convince them why you want something else and why it’s better that you take that. If they’re really closed-minded about it, you’ll have to make a decision - to be an obedient child but unhappy/unsatisfied or pursuing your passion but possibly losing your parents’ support. If there’s any way to pursuing your passion while taking the course that your parents want for you, that’s would also be an alternative. Maybe taking an elective to see if it really is a good fit for you. And if you do well in that elective, maybe that could be an argument for taking your preferred course. Anyway, wishing you the best. Hope you fulfill your dream.

And how much money does that really make?” I think we’ve all seen how letting kids do what they’re actually passionate about is better in the long run. Shoot, that kid who reviews toys on KZhead is a multimillionaire. This kid could get scholarships and who knows, go pro!” He’s a good kid who just wants to be active. That says a LOT. Many kids just want to play video games all day. Let the kid do what he’s passionate about and he’ll shine brighter than anything. He looks like a damn soccer kid!!

  • I understand how he feels tbh. My family really wants me to focus on my art skills so that I can perhaps get a scholarship for college. I really used to love art so much but I started to despise it because I felt like that's all my parents thought I was capable of. I could even throw away my art projects and never show them hoping they'd just forget. But I really want to focus on improving my singing skills like when I was younger. I did so many things as a kid soccer, karate,cheer, singing, piano, volleyball, ice skating. But none of them make me feel the way singing does and it took me long to realize that but it's my passion so I hope one day my parents will understand as well. My father is glad I am going out and trying for my dreams but I know deep down they want me to do their wishes. It's normal for your parents to want success for you especially if they come from poor background. It's something many teenagers have/are going through. Especially when you have a big dream like becoming famous or going a national soccer team. They are all dreams but you have to come back to reality and have a plan-b I think his son will mature soon enough to understand that, just not now.

  • It seems like it's hard being a parent; they want their children to pursue their passion and follow their dreams but at the same time, they don't want the little things to end up homeless 😂. Especially those from the older generation, many of whom know what it's like to go hungry from not being able to feed yourself or worry about if the family is going to be living on the streets. You'd never wish that type of suffering on anyone else, especially those you love. I think open communication is critical for parents and children; encourage the child to have stability (maybe by picking up a skill trade so they will ALWAYS have options for a job - hard to find a place that doesn't need something like construction/electrical/wood/etc. work) but also pursue a passion (which can lead to everything from life satisfaction to alternative marketable skills).

    • I understand how you feel. I was in the same shoes as you. Mine was arts and not soccer. I'm now in my final year in med school. It's not been easy but it's been worth it especially in a country like mine. I plan to explore once I'm done. I didn't have a lot of knowledge then and I was so afraid in telling my parents and I wasn't sure of what I wanted to do so I just went along that at least having a medical degree would always be useful. So if it's soccer you really want,go for it so as not to leave a lifetime of regret cos your parents would soon go and you cannot afford to keep blaming them. I'm glad I'll soon be a doctor, it's a great achievement for me. I plan to also find out more of life as I go ahead. The past is gone,the future is now. But it is also very important to communicate this to children in the right way. A lot of parents just force them into different classes without heeding what they actually want/are good at.
