  • So many teachers have had a big impact on me, but I am just sad that I am the quiet girl in the class and that they will probably never know how much I am grateful for what they have done to me...

    • I had this problem too back then. But I went to my teacher after classes and started talking to her a lot, about everything and we got closer after some time. At the beginning I often thought how stupid it was to go to her and talk with her about private things and so on, because it seemed embarassing some times. BUT I continued and now we are like really close and even after I got out of my school I still visit her at home some times, give her presents and she even knows what she has done for me, so it isn't bad to try to talk to them, even if you're the shy girl :) (they are only humans too and they also need some positive feedback from students so go on and try it ^^)

    • Natalie Haddad || I totally agree. I have 2 teachers right now that are amazing (english and geometry). I was told by my mom I was moving high schools (still in the same district), I got really sad bc I loved my english teacher and the school.. my english teacher helped and supported me with the move out my old school and when I got to my new school my geometry teacher here helped me adjust to the new school! Teachers are amazing and totally deserve better than rotten students. I am really good in geometry (I get 110s) and I'm thinking about becoming a geometry teacher.. my family makes fun of me for it though :( what do you guys think? Should I consider something else or persue my dream?

  • This litteraly made me cry so much. My mom was an alcoholic from my early childhood, and in second grade i changed school. I had this teacher from 2nd grade to 6th grade. In about 4th grade I started cutting myself, and she was the first one to discover it. She helped me SO much, she even helped me clean my wounds so it wouldn't get infected a few times. She was the only person in the world who believed in me to the fullest. When 6th grade ended, I was so sad that I couldn't have her. She wrote me a letter telling me that i was the one person she had so much trouble "leaving". She even talked to my new (fucking horrible) teacher, and told her to make sure I was okay. In 7th grade i got hospitalized in the pscych ward, and the next 2 years ahead i was in and out, and now, I'm in 10th grade (in a special school), diagnosed with schizophrenia. A day doesn't pass where I don't think about her, and feel grateful for her being there for me. I truly believe that if she wasn't there for me the way she was, I would have killed myself a long time ago.

    • The same could be said about bad teachers and the negative affects on students. I don't really remember but 2 good teachers. The rest just thought it was a good idea to yell and make an example out of me. I found out later in life I'm dyslexic and have other learning disorders. I got the help I needed to learn but I still can't shake this PTSD. Thanks again teachers.

  • I had this amazing teacher who sadly committed suicide halfway through our schooling year. He was so bright, bubbly and he was just kind in general. I remember going on a school camp, and on the bus there, he told us that whoever sung would get some chocolates, so myself and a friend sung about 5 songs and we got so much chocolate! He got me into reading and he always had nicknames for everyone. It was so unexpected and out of nowhere. I actually remember him saying before he left on his last day at school "I'm not sure how long I'll be away for... but you'll have a new teacher for a while" and we never thought anything of it, apart from maybe he was going to be sick, or going on holiday, until a couple of days later our principal came into our class and told us, I remember a couple of girls just broke down, one in particular who had grown up with a semi-abuse family and no dad, and she said he was literally like her dad she never had. Pretty sad story, but he was so amazing, wish i got the chance to tell him that, although I was only 13 or so at the time.

He always waved hello to me and then after a few weeks we talked alot more. He would always walk me to my next class. Totally awesome person. He knows how awesome to me he was because even when I saw him out of school we'd always talk. I haven't seen him in a few years but I know I'll see him again someday. 2. His name was Mr. Slater. He always was there for me. I had a really rough year that year and I saw him sometimes out of school. He unfortunately passed away a few years ago. I miss him! 3. She wasn't a teacher but she was an aide. She always helped me when I needed it. The end of that school year she gave me her number and told me to talk anytime I needed to and she offered to take me out for ice cream. Unfortunately I tried calling that number in the middle of the summer and she didn't answer. October 1st of that year she passed away from lung cancer. I found out by another aide. I miss her so much.

  • My 6th grade English teacher was the absolute nicest "grandma" figured teacher ever. My father passed away in 6th grade from cancer, she was the first person to arrive at the viewing and funeral and sat and talked to my family for hours, crying with us. All the donations for the funeral went to our education fund, she donated a tremendous amount of money. A few years later, her husband passed away from a heart attack and we did the same for her as she did for us. She is an angel in disguise. ❤️

  • There are two teachers who have changed my life. One teacher was for the worst, but the other teacher was for the best and somewhat counteracted the long term affects the other teacher caused me. It was at the end of the last school year back in June, and I was sitting in her class when somebody asked her about the tattoo she had of a fern leaf on her foot. Long story short, a pupil of hers had committed suicide a couple of years prior, and she had gotten the tattoo to symbolize the strength that pupil had. She was tearing up telling us about it, and I had been feeling really down (to the point of having suicidal thoughts - not that i'd act on them but they were still there). I just remember thinking to myself "I don't want to just be another tattoo." And that thought really encouraged me to find ways to control whatever I was feeling, and now I just keep remembering what she told us that day whenever those thoughts do slip into my mind. Thank you, Miss B.

  • I remember when taking a grade 12 calculus course, I had this fantastic teacher who was incredibly committed, and would do absolutely anything for her students to succeed. There were times I know she would stay with students helping them to the point she would have to sleep at the school. I remember one time, I had to take a test during another one of her classes. While I was in a pretty tough course with dedicated students, this was one of the lower level courses, and it was filled with students that didn't have the respect for the teacher that she deserved. I asked her after the test how she deals with that, and she said "Sometimes it can be tough, but you always find one or two students in those classes you can really inspire to learn and become better, and that makes it worth it" and I think that was the greatest thing a teacher ever said to me.

Me and my parents weren't getting along very well, she stayed after school with me for like and hour and a half just so I could talk to her and have company every school day. It was the best part of my days for me and I couldn't wait every time. She ended up leaving the next year and only told us the lust time we would ever see her at school (the last day) but, thankfully she live around the corner to my house so I get to see her still.

I have so many great memories with her, she taught me how to read because I was stubborn and wouldn’t let my mom do it haha. She got cancer, recovered and then taught my 4th grade class before getting sick again. She passed away 3 years ago, I wish I could tell her what she’s done for me.

After my suicide attempt, he was the only teacher who visited me in the hospital, the only teacher who didn’t force me to compete schoolwork directly after I came back, and the only teacher who didn’t treat me like broken glass. He was the only one who seemed to care about me even in my worst moments. I later left that school after ninth grade ended, and never got to take his chemistry class, which I’m still disappointed about. I ended up moving to a really good location and attending an amazing school though, and he was the one who encouraged me to leave. He really changed my life though, and helped me realize that life really is worth living, and that there are people worth living for. I will forever be grateful for him and everything he did for me

Every once in a while, she'll get an email or a card from a student like this. It's often someone who was difficult or so quiet in class she barely knew them. She's been told she was the best teacher they ever had. She's been told she was the first person to ever compliment any of their writing. It's amazing how much a little encouragement and belief in someone can impact them and give them the courage to keep going.

  • I had this teacher in third grade, who was the worst teacher ever. She bursted kids confidence levels, and shouted at me and ONLY me the entire time. Most kids in my class were absent from stress and one girl even had to go to hospital. After that year, I was a quiet and shy student and i never talked to my teachers, even if I really needed to, like for help with work.

    • Wow.. this happend with me. Grade 1 and Grade 2 were the best years of my life, I would always go to a teacher if I need help. Then came grade 3 I hated my teacher yelled at everyone, I think she thought she was being strict but she was just being mean to me, now I lost a lot my self confidence and I only like to talk to people that I have a nice bond with :C

  • This was beautiful. But what about the not so encouraging teachers? I sure would love to reunite with a teacher that used to pick on me and humiliate me in front of the class when I was 10. I was such a quiet kid who got bullied by a classmate. We had this box that we could post confidential letters in to tell the teacher about any worries we had. I went in one day, and she sits me in a room with the bully, and he's holding my letter whilst she's lecturing me about lying, saying she wants to speak to my mother after school. Messed up! I never had any other trouble with teachers throughout school, but this lady really seemed to hate little me.

    • Ikr! I had this teacher who picked on me a lot cause I was quiet and not that intelligent...one time he said I was wasting everyone's time by not answering his science question. He said I was gonna cry then be sent to the hallway and say that crying doesn't work on him and that he would then send me to the office...the entire time he said that I had a blank stare on my face but inside I wanted to cry cause he was sorta making fun of me for being quiet and letting the whole class know what he thought of me...a weak girl who cries easily for being told not what to do Another time he said I could get expelled from the school for not handing him an extra test sheet. How was I supposed to know cause 99.9% of the time, the last person getting the sheet gives the teacher the extras and I didn't know the person to my right left his desk cause he always sits there and was present in class that day. I just assumed he went to the washroom and left the paper on his desk. Didn't wanna look around for him cause it would look like I was trying to look at others' papers and cheat. Well lucky me cause I guess he sat somewhere else for the test:p the teacher said it was all my fault and that he would e-mail my parents

    • and another time with the same teacherXD he said something but I didn't know he was talking to me cause you know, you're supposed to give *eye contact* to the person you're talking to and not look down. I just thought he was talking to the person sitting beside me but nope. He talked to me about how I'm rude for not answering him. I then said, "Sorry, I thought you were talking to someone else. Can you repeat what you said?" Then he said, "Hehe, I'm not saying it again." then just walked away;-; He was a stem teacher(science technology engineering, and math) and I was one of the unlucky few who got the mean and scary teacher instead of the other stem teacher that was the COMPLETE opposite and I really mean COMPLETE opposite. He was really nice, funny, and actually cared to explain stuff that was confusing instead of just laughing and ignoring you

    • +Juicy Pear i had this teacher in junior high who i just never seemed to be good enough for and who never noticed when i did anything well in her class. at the end of the year the teachers had to approve you joining any honors classes in highschool and she straight up denied my one for science class because she said i wasnt smart enough for them. it really put a dent in my confidence and i only signed up for the english one because it was my best subject and my mom basically forced me to after she found out what the teacher said to me. i passed with an a, almost 100 percent grade the entire year. and the science class? i only missed 1 question on both semesters finals and passed with almost 100 on all of my classes including my science one. so i ended up taking more honors and ap and eventually took the ap bio class as a separate science credit on top of my ap physics in the same year. i got a 5 on both exams. so basically my teacher destroyed my confidence for no reason. despite...

  • After watching this I cried. A lot. And then I drove to my elementary school to visit my 3rd grade teacher, who was my biggest inspiration. He became my friend when he saw me sitting alone in a bus in 2nd grade. I didn't have any friends back then because I was "weird". He thought I was cool. Anyways it's been 13 years since I had him, I popped by and thanked him. He still remembers me, he teared up after I told him I'm pursuing a degree in a university now. Teachers go through so much crap and are so under appreciated, we should remind them how big of an impact they have on some of our lives.

  • Miss stec.. she's my mom. I refuse to call her my teacher. I call her mom in the hallways, outside, in the class, etc. she answers. She calls me her son. She makes sure I'm okay. She'll literally spend HOURS talking to me; making sure that I'm really okay. She talks about anything and everything to me. She tells me about her life, her kids life. She tells me so much. She opens up to me and I open up to her. There's nothing in this entire world that I wouldn't do for her. I'd give her my life. If she needed a heart transplant you bet I'd give her my heart. I'm not even joking. At all... she's so much more than this woman in school. I'm really her kid. I feel like her kid. I'm 17 and every time I'm with her, in her class, i feel this motherly instinct overwhelming my presence as she throws me a bag of granola or something cause she can tell I didn't eat that morning. I can't wait to do something special for her. I love her with all my heart. I've never been so emotional about a deep connection with someone. I'm a 17 year old guy, I'm looked at as a jock. But I change when I'm with her.. she's my mom. Always will be.

  • This is why I want to be a teacher. The force you can have to not only educate, but to touch and change young minds, forever. It might just be High School, or Middle School, but if you can change someone, it's for life, and if you can do something positive for a young person... It's just amazing. There are so many bad teachers out there, but we can't forget the good ones. Amazing inspiration for anyone thinking of becoming an educator.
