My wife called it in (flip phones back then) and the dispatcher told us to stay with him if we felt comfortable doing so. After about 5 minutes a highway patrol cruiser came zooming up behind me. I pulled over and watched them turn into a dirt road a ways up which turned out to be a long driveway . They tried to back up and ram the cruiser. As we drove past the officer waved us on. Next day we got a call from the department thanking us. They said the guy and his passenger were high on PCP and very dangerous. Nope, I didn't feel like a snitch. • Good for you. I have burned many over the years. For the last one I had to visit the police station and attend the court as a witness a few months later. The perp didn't bother to show up in the court, so there was a delay when a police unit was sent to drag him to the court. I was paid nothing. There is some money available for attending the court, but I declined.

  • I was behind a jeep driving the same way, a few years back - I didn't see him take-out a sign, but he spent more time on the shoulder than in the lane. I called the HP and reported it right away and called another 6 or 7 times to give them updates. 40 minutes later, I realized no one else cared so I took an exit and went home.

    • flip pino, I'd say there isn't much difference in reaction time requirements between the two speeds, besides, 65mph roads are freeways and there's limited opportunity to be cut off. I drive about 500 highway miles a week in NJ, let's say at the higher end of the typical flow speed of traffic, without much issue. And if 80 is a problem for you, please stay out of my passing lane, thx.

    • Back in the late 1980's a family that am am friends with were hit head on by a drunk driver in a pickup truck who crossed the center line in a 55 mph zone. In my friends car, the mother was driving, her daughter riding shotgun and the daughters 3 kids,7, 3, and 1 yr old in the back seat. The only one in the car that survived was the 1 yo in a car seat. OK, so this was 30 years ago, and the DUI laws were not no tolerance like they are now, but the drunk only got 5 years for involuntary manslaughter. WTF kind of justice is this?? Just a little over one year for each life he took??? One of them 7 yo and one 3 yo!!! In my opinion driving drunk isn't much different than shooting a gun down a busy street...sooner or later you will hit someone and kill them! BTW, this happened in Michigan!
