FLYERS PA PLAYED "ABCDEFU" 😭💀
They have been doing thst for a while
The most important empty net goal in the Capitals history
To get swept by the Rangers.
This was the flyers way of saying FU to the pens
Absolutely right! A few teams have done similar things to the Pens in the past few weeks.
@@buhay-canada Pens should've traded Malkin & Letang when they had value which likely would've helped them get younger & effective players 2 play with #87!! They also should've never traded 4 a "defenseman" who can't play a lick of D.
Why the pens? Its too the wings lol
And the wings
@@Depressedwingsfan without the "and" because Pens has one less point and had no chance if the Caps lost.
It was worth a try for the flyers. They needed a regulation win.
Detroit and Pittsburgh fans punching the air rn seeing Philly pull their goalie🤣🤣🤣 Obviously the flyers needed to win in reg to have a shot at making it, but damn what a tragic way to lose the 2nd wild card spot😆
What’s funny is that the flyers were already eliminated from the playoffs before pulling their goalie cuz the wings forced their game into OT which guarantees them 1 point. So I’m 90 percent convinced the flyers pulled the goalie just to make sure the penguins won’t make the playoffs lol
Not really... the wings scored just as the same time as they pulled out the goalie. They didn't know at the time
@@stu5865 It was a split second decision and a pre-planned one. Oshie scored just as the wings tied the game. Not to mention we scored immediately after flyers pulled the goalie. It's just very unfortunate and you are, unfortunately, not in the 10% correct gang this time around.
Torts gifting the caps a playoff spot.
Exactly!
How? They needed to win in regulation.
@noels9727 if a team pulls their goalie 5 on 5 with 3+ minutes left chances are pretty high they will get scored on.
@@DarkDays4That’s why you need to make sure you have clear puck possession in the offensive zone before you pull the goalie. I personally think they jumped the gun and pulled him too soon, even knowing that they needed a regulation win to stay alive. If you have puck possession and can decent pressure in the offensive zone, pulling the goalie might have worked out well for the Flyers. It’s something that all teams need to work on, as to when it makes sense to pull the goalie, and also when it makes sense to try for an empty net goal (realizing that a miss might result in an icing call).
Some gift, the Flyers peppered Lindgren with shots, they were trying to win. Just before the EN goal they almost scored but Lindgren made the big save,
It was awfully generous of the Flyers to gift this game to the Caps.
How so? They needed to win in regulation or else they would have been eliminated
@@noels9727 they were already eliminated by the time they pulled the goalie.
@noels9727 you don't pull with over 3 minutes left. That's how so. You pull with a 130 or 2 left. Bonehead ahh Philly.
@@mrhonda1 the wings scored almost at the same time... they obviously didn’t know about the score at the time
@noels9727 the NHL has this thing called an app, that's how I saw that the Wings game was going to overtime before the goalie was pulled. I'm sure someone in the Philly org was watching the app.
Fun fact, should philly win this game in regulation, two teams would have the same RW, ROW and W count, and because there's only three games between the two of us, excluding the first game at philly, both team would have 1 win and 1 loss, so it's down to philly to have a better goal differential (-25 vs -38 before this game) to rank ahead the Caps. Also, GG to the wings, flyers and pens fans, the Caps are in! Before tonight, it was 4 teams, now it's only 1. Let's go CAPS!
to add to this, the reason the first game between the two teams is discarded for the head to head tiebreaker is so each team gets the same amount of home games in case the teams play three times a year (like the caps and flyers did this year)
Such an anticlimactic ending…I don’t think the people who made this rule envisioned a team clinching a trip to the playoffs with a empty net game winner.
Never underestimate the power of Torts being Torts.
You don’t often see teams pull the goalie late in regulation in a tie game, but in this circumstance, the Flyers had no choice. They needed a regulation win to stay alive., because an overtime game would have given the Capitals a point (even if they lose in overtime, unless they do something foolish like pull the goalie in overtime like the Wild did not too long ago). That being said, I do question the timing of when they did it, because it took maybe 10 seconds after they pulled the goalie for Oshie to score into the empty net. This has nothing to do with the Flyers trying to “screw over” the Red Wins or Penguins. They needed a regulation win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Unfortunately, it will get more attention, because the Red Wings also won (scored the tying goal with 3 seconds left in regulation, and won 5-4 in the shootout), and would have been in the playoffs if the Capitals had lost.
However, what the Flyers probably didn’t know (since they were worried about their own game) is that the moment the Red Wings had scored the tying goal and forced overtime, the Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention no matter what they did in their game. That tying goal for the Red Wings happened not long before the “empty net goal” by Oshie to break a 1-1 tie.
When games of such importance are played the league should make sure the third period starts exactly at the same time at all venues. Now, it may have been the case here and Detroit and Montreal may have just had less stoppages but with the amount of goals I doubt it. How is it Detroit's game finished a full 3 minutes before this one?
That is my Oshie Bae Great to see the good guys in red get this done on a b2b. John Carlson had arguably his best defensive game of the year playing nearly 30 mins of ice time!
TJ is Hard working player
I honestly dont hate torts for this, hes just playing the game

Rangers in 5, I can’t wait
A Hearty Congratulations to the Washington Capitals, From a Rangers Fan, Looking forward to a great Series, The postseason is a whole new Season, And Both teams could go on a run

Washington shouldn’t even be in the playoffs but if there’s a team that’s gonna choke in round one (besides the leafs) it’s gonna be the rags.
Hopefully the rangers win, I think Rangers in 5 or 6
y'all will kill us but we don't care, we're just happy to have made it
@@shoresy4084 yeah sure
Why did the Flyers pull the goalie with the game tied? I'm sure Red Wings and Penguins fans are livid about this.
They absolutely needed a regulation win to make the playoffs. They also needed that detroit and pittsburgh lost.
@@MathieuFerronMusic winning in overtime or a shootout would have eliminated them, even though it's still 2 points gained? This makes no sense to me.
@@Ramiestarif they got a 2 point win AND det AND wash got zero points.....AND Pittsburgh didn't get 2.....then Philly would have got the wc spot. They needed everything to go their way....and it didn't.
@@Ramiestar Winning in OT or SO would have left them one point behind the Capitals. Winning in regulation would have tied them with the Caps and the Flyers had the (6th!!) tiebreaker.
@@sazook ah yes, I forgot about the loser point. The NHL should award 3 points for a regulation win and make them more "valuable".

Don't understand it. Long time CAPS fan so I'll take it. Lindgren has been a Revelation. Coach Carberry so young and got this squad of aging underachievers into the SC playoffs? Prolly gonna get blown out by the Rags but it's still a great story. 1 thing the CAPS have going in: maybe the hottest goalie in the NHL.
Оши поставил точку.
It’s not an odd empty net goal if you understand why they did it. Had to win in regulation and if Detroit lost then the flyers would be in on GOAL DIFFERENCE.
The cardiac caps are about to hand out capital punishment.
I was going to... but then I didn't

Yep, but flyers were still technically alive as there was 4 seconds left, it's stupidly unlikely but still.
NY Rangers must have been good boys saying their prayers every night & now laughing their heads off!! Panarin + the boys are a coming!!

This video like the rest fail to explain how the Caps are in the playoffs. Less wins (40) than the Wings (41, GD 4) & a GD of -37. Anyone care to explain?
Playoff bound baby!
LETS GO CAPS! To every other team that was in contention, great effort guys! Pens had a great last stretch, and the Wings didn't let up with two comebacks in a row! Flyers, uh, thanks for pulling your goalie? XD

All this work only to waste 8 days in the post season because I think Rangers are going to annihilate the Caps.
Anything can happens in the playoffs. I remember the caps of 2010s when they were the regular season champs just to lose to a hot goalie
presidents trophy curse... good luck
Who cares, we are in and every game is a bonus even if we are gonna get swept by the rangers.
Caps are -37 in goal diff. and we sold at the deadline. We do not care if we’re first round exits lol
Yall say this but the caps and rangers are 2-2 on the season.
Congratulations Caps
Rangers Capitals 4:0 lets go
I screamed out of joy! What an exciting game. Too The whiners in Pitt and Detroit. Up hours! You had 82 games to figure it out. Caps are in!
Exactly. Had Detroit taken a 2-0 lead late into the game the Flyers would not have pulled the goalie. As for the Pens, ha-ha, F 'em. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch :)
I get Flyers going on extreme offence to secure the the W but this empty netter was an extremely demoralzing end to the Red Wings's playoff story. And I'm not even a Wings fan.
More like the red wings playoff choke is complete. They shot themselves in the foot over and over again down the stretch.
Detroit and Pittsburgh this season were both highly mediocre teams. No tears should be shed for these teams. Why cry for Pittsburgh who's won 3 Cups recently, and Detroit who's had 4 in the last 25 years. Only reason Pittsburgh were even in the running this late in the season is because they're getting special favourable treatment from the refs and a disproportionate amount of PP opportunities.
So why’d the flyers pull the goalie in a tie game?
Teams get 2 points for a win, 1 for a loss in overtime and 0 for a loss in regulation. The Flyers were trailing the Capitals by two points in the standings, meaning if the Caps got a point the Flyers were eliminated.
Because the NHL, like all other sports leagues, runs with a points system that goes beyond individual games. Individual game adds up to something called a season, and at the end of the season some of the teams (the ones with the most points) make the playoffs.

The Cap’s making the playoffs is the equivalent to a 8-9 NFL team making it
🦅
Imagine making the playoffs with less wins. 🤦🏻
Why is the goal "odd"? He's a professional and that's his job haha
Why’d he pull the goalie?
Given the standings before the game, the only way for the Flyers to make the playoffs was to win in regulation (not in OT, it had to be in regulation) and for Detroit and the Pens to lose their last games. With the game tied and Detroit, at the time, losing their game it was the automatic correct move; it will have been decided the night before. Torts had no way of knowing Detroit would equalize so late and even then, Montreal could have scored a last-second winner, anything could have happened. The Flyers had to take their last chance and try to win in regulation and they did so. They almost scored, by the way, Lindgren made a great save and then the Caps scored immediately after.
Looks like the Capitals won the 4 team battle for the right to lose in 5 to the Rangers.
In 2/3rds*

You actually have to play the games
@@KaleFGBNot salty at all lol the Flyers, Pens, Wings, and Caps have no shot against the Rangers and I just think it’s silly how so many people are angry about having the right to be first round exits. I know that the Flyers would have been creamed if they made it.
@philly_sports1558 while I think it is VERY unlikely caps beat Rangers, anything can happen in hockey. Just last year the 65 win bruins lost in round 1... gotta play the games.
Briere probably doesn't like Yzerman)
And people think that NHL teams don't throw games! There's gonna be a lot of talk about this.
If you think they throw away this game to put the middle finger against the wings or the pens, you are so clueless but I don't blame you, because I don't expect a hater to get his hockey knowledge together to actually make a sensible comment.
@@jkliao6486 apparently the goalie was pulled three seconds after the other game was tied.
@@snacktastic2302 So? There's still 3 seconds in that game and philly is trying their best to not be eliminated. If anything, Wings have themselves to blame. If they play a quick game and end it earlier, it might have been different.
You’re not too sharp are you
You mean talk about how you conspiracy nuts don't know what the hell you're talking about? Philly needed to beat Washington AND make sure the Caps didn't get a point for making it to overtime. If they didn't break the tie before the third period was over, then their playoffs chances were dead.
Pathetic that a -37 goal difference team is getting in on a play like this. Wings deserved it
The Wings didn’t deserve anything. Flyers didn’t deserve anything. Penguins didn’t deserve anything. The Capitals at least didn’t fall apart in the final month of the year.
Imagine having a secure playoff spot only to go on a 8 game losing streak causing you to choke your season and saying you deserved to be there lol
What’s better for the sport. This boring ass capitals team getting wiped versus the rangers. Or a young energetic team that would make it exciting?
that -37 goal diff has nothing on how good the team is. all that says is when you win, its a close win, and when you lose, you get blown out. they both count for the same # of points. we won games when it mattered most, we played well when it mattered most, and we made the playoffs when it mattered most
@@ryuhoshi2774on the flip side, Imagine only making the playoffs because your opponent in the last game of the season pulled the goalie in a TIE game.
I am not a Capitals or Red Wings fan, however I think the NHL should review the tie breaking procedures. This is clear evidence that they reward OT losses over OT wins. Capitals: 40 wins, 31 losses, 11 OT losses; Red Wings: 41 wins, 32 losses, 9 OT losses. Plus, do the math and in OT, the Red Wings won 11 times and lost only 9 times whereas in OT the Capitals only won only 4 times and lost 11 times. Regulation wins should only take precedence if they are deadlock tied with wins in general. 41 is greater than 40. The Red Wings won more games! period! Edit: Simply said: Red Wings 41 wins, 41 losses vs Capitals 40 wins, 42 losses.
I think nhl has it right. Regulation wins matter more.
@@db-jk8dl Who has the better record: 1-1-0 or 0-0-2? the team who won 1 game in OT and lost 1 in regulation or the team who won 0 games and lost 2 games in OT? Losing should never be rewarded, jeeze they already got 2 points for losing 2 games, now they get a playoff spot?

Flyers couldn't go into OT otherwise they would be eliminated (even though they were eliminated after Perron tied the game)

There was no reason to do this. Nobody wanted to play the penguins or the wings in the playoffs the way they’ve been playing. I mean you couldn’t script it any better. I’d be embarrassed to be a flyer tonight… never seen a team give up while tied.
