Oligarchs 'hatred' for Putin grows as he stops caring about Ukraine losses | Bill Browder

2024 ж. 13 Мам.
922 268 Рет қаралды

"There's not enough soldiers on the front line and so Putin doesn't rotate them out. He doesn't care. 300,000 Russian men have died in this war."
Only violence holds Putin in power as he becomes hated by his inner circle and callous about military failures in Ukraine, says Bill Browder on Times Radio's Frontline.

  • Bill Browder is an intelligent and straight-talking individual. As long as there are people like him willing to call out corruption and tyranny then there is hope for freedom and humanity. However, too many people take the easy option to turn their backs, ignore corruption, fail to challenge lies or buy-in to 'political spin'. Freedom and truth should be the most protected of commodities - but it seems most are ignorant or unaware that this is where the real battle for humanity and its soul is being fought today.

And as impressively intelligent, resourceful and adaptive Ukrainians have proven to be, not to mention courageous and tough, it is unrealistic to think that Ukraine will be able to produce the weapons it needs within country while Russia continues to degrade its energy, transportation and other infrastructure. The headline in Reuters for 21st September is 'Russia temporarily bans fuel exports to most countries in response to shortages' Apparently, this is because of fuel shortages (!!) within Russia, so less money flowing into Russia from those sales.

The main difference between Russian-style Capitalism and the Western version of Capitalism the manner of integration of private interests with those of the state (i.e. the Russians appeal to a singular strongman who is a head of state [with other political institutions being largely a cover to advance the agenda of the strongman head of state] while the Westerners appeal to multiple bureaucrats and politicians via lobbying and campaign finance).

    • @@wilberwhateley7569 That's not what I was talking about, though. I'm talking about the power structures. EDF doesn't have a private army capable of conscripting from prisons, for example. GazProm does. What you have, realistically, is a Communist State dressed in Capitalist clothing. Before I turned to defence diplomacy, I was for a decade on the Corporate Finance Combat Team of an FT 100 Company. One day, a rival multinational used a subsidiary to stage a dawn raid. The orders I gave our Merchant Bank adviser were immediate, succinct and resulted in the CEO of the aggressive company being sentenced to jail for 8 years. The trouble ceased. In Russia, I'd have been sent to jail for daring to oppose the Party. Here, the shareholders have the right to fire incompetent Directors. In Russia, incompetent Oligarchs have the opposition poisoned. My first Oligarch was Akademician Ivanov, in 1966, at the start of the Lada theft. I had a glimpse into his mind when I asked if his colleague, a figure in the line behind, was also registering for the conference. His reply was humorous, "Oh, heem? Oh, no no no no no." I focused. A KGB minder, 400 yards from the UK MOD. That is how much power Russian Oligarchs have. Many may disagree with Russian policy. It would be suicide to say so.

What it will not do is supply Ukraine with the recently purchased hardware such as Abrams and Korean tanks which it needs for its own defense.

    @michaelmazowiecki9195@michaelmazowiecki91957 ай бұрын
    • Don't see anyone asking Poland to donate its latest weaponry. No doubt Poland has donated more per head of population, than any other NATO country, the US and UK included. No country has done more to take in, house and protect Ukrainian refugees. However, to be the first NATO country to break ranks and state it will no longer supply arms to Ukraine is shameful. Putin must be ecstatic to see an ally openly reject any further weapons assistance to Ukraine, in the midst of it's offensive, whether or not this is short term electioneering. There has to be another solution to the problems caused by the export of grain through Poland, without depressing prices for Polish farmers. Perhaps the answer is to allow grain to transit overland, but outlaw the sale of Ukrainian grain, which can be for export only. Allies need diplomatic mechanisms to resolve any differences, rather than squabble and fall out amongst themselves. This plays directly into the hands of the mass murderer, Putin. If Ukraine falls, Poland and the Baltic States are his next targets.

      @ianworley8169@ianworley81697 ай бұрын
    • Agreed. Poland is on NATO’s front line, so needs to not only maintain but increase its stocks of weapons for its own use. Same applies to Rumania and the Baltic States. They should not be supplying modern weapons to Ukraine, only old ex-Soviet ones that they can manage without.

      @timonsolus@timonsolus7 ай бұрын
    • @@timonsolus Right now, Ukraine is that frontline. You either send weapons and let them pay in blood, or you hoard it and pay yourself in blood later. There’s no choice here. The video discusses an incident where Putin appeared weak and humiliated, leading to speculation that he orchestrated an explosion on an aircraft to regain his image. 12:13: 💣 Putin is running out of weapons and soldiers in the war with Ukraine, but hitting him financially could be an effective measure to end the war. 15:46: 🌍 The international community should provide military support and insurance to protect grain routes in Ukraine, as Russia's actions are affecting exports. 19:40: 💰 There are still many oligarchs needing to be sanctioned, but the support for President Putin from these oligarchs is likely strong due to the fear of facing the same fate as the victims of the plane crash. 23:23: 😢 The speaker discusses the disappointment and heartbreak of the current state of Russia and Ukraine.
