Daro Mat revolves around the less spoken about Indian Girl. The Indian girl who is smart and yet devoid of opinions as ' having an opinion' was never an option. The movie depicts her strength portrayed by simple thoughts. How she navigates her life through cultural barriers forms the crux of the story. Lakshmi Devy who is also the filmmaker portrays the role of Divya with poignant restriction and vulnerability. The film has been recognized and won several awards at numerous International Film Festivals across the world.

My mom in law too asked me to keep my jewels with her for which I said no. She went and complained to everyone that I had a mean tongue for just saying no.. I showed I wasn't affected by her bad mouthing and she was intimidated by my many more no s....my husband did question me once but I brushed it off lightly. The jewelry my family gave me is for my security not for my in laws or husband's ..sorry.

It's so embedded in our culture that we have TV serials and KZhead videos based on that drama. We also apparently need videos telling us how to treat women. Seriously? Women should have each others' back. The new generation of daughters-in-law should not take such rubbish, hopefully their in-laws are better. And most hopefully, the new generation of men are also more independent and less tied to family apron strings.

I was afraid.. when i get married 1 year back.. i was afraid of everything.. his fam, parents, my responsibilities,. I am the one and only child for my parents.. . That day i cant forget each drops of tears rolled out of my pappa's eyes. But he told me one thing just be ur self. Dont get confused about anything. Iam with u. U r safe in his hands. When u felt its not like that just make a call and i will be there. But he was like my pappa.. he loves me alot.. still he will scold me, sometimes he used to shout towards me. Still i can feel his love and care.. but his mom. She is crooked. She never miss a chance to abuse me. But i tried to not listen to her words.. till now.. i don't care.. becoz i respect her age.

I was like that. Trying to make everyone happy, serving and taking care of everyone. In return I lost my career and myself. Just to realise that only my parents came to my rescue when I got unwell or pregnant 😔 Husband's will not always support you. I still wish them well. But if I can live those years again I will take care of Myself too and be bit more practical. It's difficult when spouse thinks you are just there to make their parents life better and just serve the whole extended family and he leaves abroad to work.

The mother in law abuse is real. A lot of marriages in India are arranged. We can ask around for the partner's behavior and family to confirm if they r indeed clean as they show during marriage interview. But only after marriage do you see personality changes. Especially with the in-laws. These days women wish for independent living with husband to avoid situation like with this horrid in-law. But the society be saying we r separating the boy from his mother. Perhaps they should remember the woman literally leaves everyone from her birth home to become someone's wife. The man doesn't do that. The double standards r real 🙁 I have seen many of my frnds being abused verbally by their mother in law. I hope women are more careful when they make arrangements for their marriage...
Exactly! It's absurd to the point of being ridiculous and dumb. The 30+ year old child still wants to hang onto his parents and be with them, as if our parents don't get old. Even then he is called as being the head of the family, the man child lol. And the woman has to depend on him, when the woman has more work to do in the marriage. my ex MIL decided what I was going to wear for the first night. at the wedding hall, before we left, she gave me some clothes and said I should wear them. I was so upset, I sat in my room alone and cried. Then my father came and told me not to take her seriously. Imagine, the start of the marriage was so unhappy. I think these witch MIL's do it on purpose. to cause problems between son and DIL.

the film has a good concept, decent cinematography, and good actors, but it was unfortunately not executed to the level it could have. either ways, the film shines light on some of the harsh, close-mindedness some unlucky indian women have to endure, and i'm glad the message is getting out there!
