  • This scene is just a pure Brilliance - so many intricate details... Nabutada (Katsumoto's son) is completely comfortable to have fun with Algren, because like his father he absolutely does not resent him for killing his uncle... Same goes for the little one, because he just too little to understand anything... and while Higgin, the older son of the family (and now the man in the family) seems to be of the same mindset, he is also more reserved, especially noticing that his mother is not totally OK with all of this... at 0:25 you can clearly see how Higgin is the only one who can see that his mother is having tough feelings about this, while everyone else seems to be oblivious to it.... and then there is a moment at 0:46 When Higgin is introduced to him by name, Algren gives him a respectful Nod - a treatment that is distinctly different from the one he gives to the baby brother and you see how much Higgin appreciates this

    • That execution was an act of honor and not some "stealing kill", this is not a video game. Katsumoto would want every warrior he could gather in his rebellion.

      @kaanalpkaratas6091@kaanalpkaratas609111 ай бұрын
    • 2 things to note in that fight scene. The 1st is that normally algren would have been executed whether he fell to the other samurai or hirotoro himself. it's considered an honor to fall in battle, holding off 5 samurai and then killing an enemy when at the brink of death. algren mentions the battle of thermopylae and custers last stand which piques katsumotos interest. And the 2nd thing to note was the banner algren fought off the samurai with. It contained a white tiger which katsumoto mentions in a dream he had and wrote a poem. A warrior from a distant land with eyes like his.

There's literal meaning that needs to be shown, but if they just translated it literally, those of us without knowledge of the cultural context wouldn't understand. It was a good translation, because it conveyed the *meaning* behind her words. Few Westerners would think her weak for asking this, but in context, they both see her request as weakness, and that's why she apologizes. They don't need to say it to each other, but we need to hear it.

The difference being that Matsumoto saw the honor of fighting till last breath, an alien concept for the japanese at the time

Hitori was clearly a chump, my man T-bone was on the ground bleeding out, and he still OHKO'd him like a little bitch. Once Ol' T-Cruise sobers up and washes his ass, no way she isn't looking to trade up. Not only is The Cruisenator helping out around the house n shit, unlike her husband who probably just sat around eating rice and scratching his ass, but Tom Tom is much better looking, and probably has a way bigger cack on him than Hitori. • The background for the period of the movie [History] is incorrect. For example, the Japanese soldiers' armor and costumes in this movie are from the late 16th century, not the late 19th century (at that time from the end of the Tokugawa period to the beginning of the Meiji period). In addition, Westerners like the word "samurai", but in Japan at that time, it was more popular to call it "bushi", "buke", "bujin", "bumon" instead of "samurai".

    • You have to look at it at a lady's point of view in the samurai age. That puts a lot of prospective on the issue. She even asked to end her life ... but as strong as she is, she forgot that enduring is even stronger than dying. Its a reversal on her stance when Tom Cruise was asking for more sake... she overstep her part as a woman. Men were strong back in the older times but woman were even stronger. Yeah that's also another thing when someone knows who you are and you don't know who they are its a little unsettling ... makes you owe it to them and yourself to learn who they are. I think in Japanese culture and others its considered rude if you are too informal when they don't know who you are.
