A couple of things: 1. You really need to listen to this through some reference-quality headphones to hear all the parts going on. Verdine White's bass is epic, as are Louis Satterfield's horn parts. The key change is orgasmic. And, in two words... Philip Bailey. 2. "Fantasy" was produced by Maurice White, who also composed the song with Eddie Del Barrio and Verdine White. The song took three months to be composed, and was only finally finished after Maurice White saw and was inspired by the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Talking about the message in this song, Maurice told Melody Maker: "The song 'Fantasy' is motivated about escapism in the sense of living on a world that is untrue, a world that is unjust, a world that is very selfish and envious, there is a place that everyone can escape to which is their own fantasy. I had to write the song in the sense of sharing this place with people. It's an escape mechanism."

Honest to God, I used to dance to this song when I was a teenager and it has been one of my favorite songs of all time, but I had never read all the lyrics. Wow! I am crying reading them! I am very much into spirituality and this song (to me, at least), talks about the freedom that we are all seeking, especially now, of a place that is far away from here, where beings of other kinds have been seeking for us too (alien brothers and sisters, maybe?), where we will have a life review (heaven?) and we will be happy forever! This song has meaning to me in my real life, but what it resonated with most directly was one of my characters in my stories. He feels all alone, trapped in an abusive situation and like he has to fight every day just to survive. There's no time or space for him to express anything in his soul, but he secretly longs for such an expression. Another character, a spirit, takes him away to meet the spirits of people in the past who were just like him. They welcome him as one of them, and tell him that many of the unique things he does are part of their culture, the culture of the people that are like they are. The people he never knew existed. As soon as he learns that there is such a people, and that his own existence makes sense, he turns around and realizes his whole life up until this moment was not random and baffling. God helped us by giving his only son to make it possible for me John 3:16. He knew if he didn't die for me I'd never have eternal life. He promised after 3 days he'd come back & scripture says it. This July I've got the gift of listening at SPAC New York with Chicago & never gone to a concert like this. ❤ My son surprised me it's a birthday gift. Enjoy your day - take care 😊

Honest to God, I used to dance to this song when I was a teenager and it has been one of my favorite songs of all time, but I had never read all the lyrics. Wow! I am crying reading them! I am very much into spirituality and this song (to me, at least), talks about the freedom that we are all seeking, especially now, of a place that is far away from here, where beings of other kinds have been seeking for us too (alien brothers and sisters, maybe?), where we will have a life review (heaven?) and we will be happy forever! Beautiful song and beautiful lyrics!
This song has meaning to me in my real life, but what it resonated with most directly was one of my characters in my stories. He feels all alone, trapped in an abusive situation and like he has to fight every day just to survive. There's no time or space for him to express anything in his soul, but he secretly longs for such an expression. Another character, a spirit, takes him away to meet the spirits of people in the past who were just like him. They welcome him as one of them, and tell him that many of the unique things he does are part of their culture, the culture of the people that are like they are. The people he never knew existed. As soon as he learns that there is such a people, and that his own existence makes sense, he turns around and realizes his whole life up until this moment was not random and baffling.
