  • Fun fact, aiming handguns is actually a bit easier and more ergonomic with a very slight inward cant. Just like you described for your preferred tweaks to the mouse. It's just naturally how your arm likes to position when pointing.

    @murdurmuffin7872@murdurmuffin78727 ай бұрын
    • that's how i would teach pistols at the range. if you extend your arm like a punch, it very slightly turns inward.. holding a pistol can benefit from that natural position. not full on sideways 'execution' shot, but about 10-15*, so it lines up your arm wrist to shoulder. imo makes recoil easier also.

  • A part of the reason you felt so much slower aiming rightwards is because you can now naturally engage your entire bicep and chest to pull inward when you move left without even realizing it. It's a much more natural motion of the arm, but the consequence is making it obvious just how non-linear natural motion really is.

    • I have one. The M1 has some travel time and it's a really heavy unit compared to most mice. Also, mine rocks a bit on my desk. I am not sure if that is a design flaw present in all units. It makes for a cool collector's item for display, but I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. The actual grip is incredibly comfortable and it seems like something that MonsterGecko thought was going to make them rich. Someone put some serious R&D into it. It even has an anime mascot on the booklet and box art. The buttons used are microswitches.

Most people give up before they really get the hang of it because it's like starting from scratch with your aim but the longevity and superior control once you master it is totally worth it. Gyro sucks because you can't perform certain movements in a controlled manner because there's nothing to support your movement. Most peopple either use it for main rotation and then use fingers for precision or the other way around - fingers for quick movements and gyro for precision. Steam Deck is even more of a meme because it's a heavy brick that you are suggesting should be rotated with your hands. Awful. At least look at VR controls.

Going by the reviews made by Boojakasha, there are: Ragnok (1st and 2nd versions), Nextick, Ghost Hunter LM60, M60A3 Combat Gun Mouse, FPSGUN FG-1000, and Pistolmouse FPS by MonsterGecko. I have owned and then returned the unit in this video, the Ragnok "2". I have a MonsterGecko Pistolmouse FPS on display along with the box in my room. The Ghost Hunter LM60 is only feasibly obtainable in China and it is unlikely you would be able to get it through customs/obtain one at all if you live in the west. Not without some serious connections for obtaining collectors items. Your best bet is the unit I mentioned above. From everything I've heard, it seems like the best gun mouse from a functional standpoint, ignoring the Ghost Hunter. Also, if you want a good laugh, look up the original trailer for the FPSGUN FG-1000.

  • I used to use a similar mouse called the Zalman FG-1000 FPS Gun, similar in the way of being a vertical mouse shaped like a pistol grip, but the main difference is that the Zalman is much bigger, and wired. The Zalman actually solves two problems you found with the Ragnok, one is the sensor placement. While the Ragnok is right underneath your hand, and looks even closer to your wrist than a regular mouse, the Zalman's sensor is *much* further forward, way more than a typical mouse, this being one of the original selling points. Another gripe you mentioned was that the Ragnok is completely vertical, while the Zalman is sloped on the far side, letting your hand rest at roughly an 80 degree angle, as well as having a better place to rest your palm, rather than the perfect 90 demanded by the Ragnok. I went though two of them before they were discontinued, and second hand ones on Ebay hit triple digits, so I ended up reverting back to a regular mouse. I miss the Zalman, and I wish someone would make a mouse in a similar form factor to it, but this isnt it

Also, as they're not manufactured, finding them second hand, or even in packaging still, is gonna cost at least $100. Its DPI customization is very restrictive, if you typically use a DPI outside of its range, its gonna take a little while. It has a 'Low, Med, High' setting, with a hotkey near your ring finger to cycle though the modes. Low can only be set to 400 or 600, Medium can only be set to 800, 1000, or 1200, and High can only be set to 1400, 1600, or 2000 @@southpark159753

    • Sure you could spend time working on your wrist range but there are other solutions that will yield better results, like learning how to play on low sensitivity and using your arm to aim. A lot of people give up before they get the hang of it but the end goal is being able to use both the full range of your arm and wrist together allowing for way more control than you could ever achieve grinding out hours aim training on a high sensitivity. The negatives is really not a long list, you can't 180 as fast and learning vertical aiming/tracking with your arm is like learning how to ride a bike for the first time... but once you get the hang of it, it actually gives you far superior control. I can attest as I have spent 1,500+ hours on aim trainers and have gotten a few world bests (that I no longer have) at vertical tracking and various other aim training scenarios.

  • Looking at bottom of it, do you think a shape like this could work if it had a more forward sensor? I'm not great at fps by any means or aiming but enjoy my gaming mice because they make things simple, every one i have owned placed sensor near the pivot point of the upper-center of the palm, with this it seem a bit rearward. I could be totally wrong about this but especially with rotating swipes i would think precision would come from sensor being mounted much further forward in this device

  • So, I owned a Zalman FPS Gunmouse for a year before it sadly self destructed! One of these days I may resurrect it from the box. The benefits that mouse had, was the sensor was placed forward of your knuckles, on a sled ahead of the pistol grip. This allowed them to extend the length of each "swipe" while maintaining the smooth motion. What they also did with this, was in the way the mouse recognized motion. Instead of drawing an arc if you lock your arm and bend the wrist with the Zalman, it would draw a straight line. If you locked your wrist and moved your whole arm as a "fine motion", it would also translate more a straight line. This worked well as a hand-eye coordination thing, because you'd only need to push/pull with your arm a small amount to fine tune your vertical aim while the horizontal plane was consistent. I would have to use the Ragnok 2 mouse to compare, but I'm not seeing any mention of them having specific tweaks to the sensor. That said, enough practice and you can get good aim with these mice. And it's actually better if you have joint issues.

  • I think I would invert the y-axis for this mouse, even though I hate it with a regular mouse. It makes more intuitive sense for me when my hand is positioned like that, pushing forward to aim down/pulling back to aim up like a helicopter cyclic.

The product page shows that the trigger buttons actually use mechanical keyboard switches, so there's already opportunity to customise their feeling with different switches and/or springs. Putting in heavier weight long springs should allow you to rest your fingers on the buttons without actuating them. I'm planning to try out a tactile switch with a long pre-travel and heavy tactile bump for the main (left mouse button) trigger and a shorter travel linear switch on the second (right mouse button) trigger and then experimenting with spring lengths and weights to tune the feel.

  • I really like this over the design of most ergonomic vertical mice. They often have traditional style mouse buttons, which means that you are stuck gripping them awkwardly between the base of your thumb and the inside of you knuckle (with maybe a bit of help from your pinky and ring finger depending on how big the buttons are). It seems like a better design would be somewhere between the two where you have a mouse shaped like a D standing on its end. The flat side being a brace for your thumb whose position you can adjust in and out. That way you would have high table contact on the one side, a solid grip, low hand contact(reducing sweat), and it would technically be held mid way down your fingers enabling a bit of finger adjustment.

  • They could make it even more ergonomic if they added a gyroscope and accelerometer. Allowing the user freedom to move in 3D space. Then you can turn the handle sideways to fix the issues for vertical aiming as it would take more effort to supinate your wrist. Fully extending your mouse arm will make it easier to bring the mouse to eye level. It would also be advised that the user should stand straight up to allow for full body adjustments placing less strain from repetitive movement solely on the hand and wrist.

I have been using the Zalman FG1000 Fps gun, I've had 2 so far, they are cheaply made, undersized and not made anymore. When I found I couldn't go back to a conventional mouse after a few weeks of use, a few years I had to buy the only 1 new old stock from ebay for 90 bucks, still as expected from the previous mouse the rubber grips delaminated in a few weeks, the page up page down buttons broke within a couple months. I've rebuilt the switches on both mice many times, re-soldered the cord after failing at the strain relief gland. Although i probably will still prefer the geometry of the FG1000 sensor being in a foot out in from of the mouse, I suppose I can get used to this when mine ultimately fails considering its scroll is with the thumb. My wrist cannot stand scrolling with a middle finger.

  • I had a pretty janky one of these pistol grip mice before. I used it on and off for about a year. I really loved the thing but I'm also certain it was affecting me detrimentally. The problem with my pistol mouse was the absolute mad scientists that made it opted for having the sensor in the front of the device instead of directly under my hand or anywhere where i could actually build up some real consistency aiming with the thing. Though in retrospect it was not only silly fun but also crazy fast/responsive with the sensor in the front of the thing. Mainly because you could snap your wrist around and the front end of the boot shaped pistol mouse had nothing but infinite leverage to swing around with. It was dramatically easy to go from precise aim one moment to wildly swooping the mouse around to pull off >360s with something like a shotgun up close. I cant do anything like that with my standard mouse unless i want to get used to a dpi toggle or shift which i don't. Of course the main draw back to all that is that since rotating your wrist swings the front of the thing with the sensor around so drastically compared to how little input you provide having to consistently sniper with the thing or just have very very precise aim/shots would become a real chore and almost made me wanna lower dpi which I'm completely against. That thing sure was comfy though, definitely no downsides to that and for casual gaming it rocked.

Though not sure how that'll work since it's a true vertical mouse. 2. A more forward sensor placement considering the mouse grip is on an angle. 3. Newer or better sensor (apparently white and black uses different sensor). 4. More buttons like button 3 and 4. Maybe an extra for good measure. 5. Wider base and top for a securer grip. 6. Software controls. Still I like to try this out. For $69 (nice) this is a perfect amalgamation of ergonomics, a mouse and having a unique style too. Maybe a closer to mice adjustments would make it a more compelling option to a true gun like experience.

  • This looks super sick. Hopefully they listen to popular demand and implement some of the changes that you (and others in the comments) have suggested.

  • I use a vertical mouse similar to that (logitech mx vertical) and I absolutely love it

  • looks like a solid prototype. with a more ergonomic design, and sturdier build quality, i can see it being a serious contender for fps gaming

  • Looks good and really promising to be honest, it can be improved with lots of ideas. I hope fps gaming will evolve with such utility and controller.

  • This seems like it would be pretty fun to play time crisis, and similar games on pc as well!

  • Reminds me of the zalman fps gun mouse. Still have one lying around. I’ll probably try this one too.

  • I'm on console and controller because when shooter genres started popping off, the old philosophy was to make the controller feel like a gun, and I love that feeling to this day. This. This I want to try.

  • If you extended the sensor out more towards where the hypothetical barrel would be, it would make it easier to aim greatly. Just like when he held it out more with his fingers. Have the sensor towards the end of the detatchable base, instead.

  • Might have to pick one up, it honestly just sounds fun to mess around with

  • I wonder if having a pivot-able pullback on it would help with vertical aiming? Having it be able to tilt back individually of the base makes it so you can have the action of aiming up feel like you're aiming "up" with a gun, but also make it so you don't need to move your whole shoulder into the movement on a desk. That, and simply a wider base could reduce sideways tilt. It's an interesting idea and I'd love to try it on the second go-around!
