Showing off is said to be a fool's sense of glory. That is certainly true in the sport of boxing. A split-second mental slip can have terrible consequences. It's always interesting to witness showboating fail badly in combat sports, whether it's due to a little dancing during the fight, trash talk in the ring, or during the weigh-in. Without further ado, here are the times when arrogant Fighters were destroyed by their opponents.

And if a fighter thinks that he doesn't have a good chance of winning he shouldn't take that particular fight period. There was no trash talk from Donnie Long.

  • 6:20 This guy really wasn't that cocky. The entire pre-match phase is about getting into your opponents head, but most importantly to give the audience a good story to root for. Ratings are more important than the sport itself to the people writing paychecks to the boxers. What this guy said about Tyson was pretty mild compared to some of the shit I've heard.

He hit him in one of the most vulnerable spots on the human body and Mayorga didn't see it coming. There was zero give in Mayorga's body when the punch landed. I'm honestly surprised that he wasn't rolling around on the ground like Oscar De La Hoya against Hopkins.

  • Mayorga had accrued some losses during his career. Mostly by his own doing in letting himself be hit as an act of strategy. Why? Who knows?Either way, not too smart. He would just purposely let his guard down too many times...and, for too long. All that said, the dude is one tough hombre' to put down. I don't think that I've ever seen anybody take that much punishment and still not go down. No way would I want to get in a street fight with him...You'd just have to break out the shootin iron and be done with it. Otherwise, you'd be boppin heads with him each and every time you ran into him lol. But, the dude could take some punishment.

  • Just goes to show, the best way to deal with a cocky punk is just treat them like another day at work. Generally they're the ones that clock out first.

  • Ricardo Mayorga was a world class boxer who fought in 5 divisions and held titles in 2 divisions. He backed his arrogance up 90% of the time. He lost to Moseley from a liver punch because his liver was already damaged from alchohol abuse, which is well documented. He is now clean and living a good life. I'm very happy for him.
