I Ignored the Signs - Jason | Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer | The Patient Story

For months, Jason explained away stomach issues, thinking it was IBS like loose stools, constipation and seeing spots of blood on toilet paper, until the bleeding got worse. He finally went to the doctor and tests and biopsies later revealed a stage 4 colorectal cancer cancer diagnosis with metastasis to the liver.

  • I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer when I was 37. After a lot of chemo and a lot of surgery I am CANCER FREE!! There will be times you want to give up but stay strong and keep fighting.

    • How long have you been cancer free/in remission? That is amazing news, congratulations!! ❤ I have throat cancer and the PET scan revealed something in my colon with enlarged lymph nodes. Metastasis from my throat cancer was ruled out in another scan specifically for it. I have had symptoms of IBS, with the exemption of blood in my stool. 2 years ago I had a colonoscopy and they didn’t find anything. Now that the PET scan has showed something, my doctor now wants to run more tests… I do have a family history of Crohn’s and this sort of thing can show up and mimic colon cancer so I am not too freaked out yet. However they also found 10+ lesions in my liver (which appeared suddenly which is alarming) that they are investigating but so far are saying these are benign… I am 32. So sorry you went through that and so happy I saw your comment. It gives me hope if I do end up being diagnosed!

    • @iSheree I have been cancer free since August of 2023 so not long. I'm glad your Dr is staying up on this and looking further into it. I will pray for you. It's been a very long and hard road but with good Dr.'s and the strength of my family and friends I made it. I was only 86 lbs at one point and the surgeon told my family he wouldn't operate anymore and to take me home to see my kids. Basically go home and see how long I last. I came home forced myself to gain weight back and he ended up doing further surgery. I also went to UC for a possible living donor for my liver but ended up going to Cleveland clinic for a resection. My point is no matter how dark it gets keep pushing and let your people fight for you when you can't. Your life is worth going to the ends of the earth to save. If you have any questions along the way please feel free to reach out. I will help as much as I can.

    • @@brandyfoster596 thank you so much for your kind words and wisdom! I have been fighting my throat cancer since April 2023 and it was in August 2023 that they told me that all those things in the PET scan weren’t from that cancer! They haven’t been able to figure out what is going on since. I am a medical mystery right now. I have been so sick for a few years now but it could well be an autoimmune disease mimicking cancer. I hope so anyway because I was born disabled, made more disabled due to hospital negligence at 3 months old, developed debilitating chronic illnesses along the way and broke my neck at 17 which triggered multiple autoimmune diseases. Having cancer is just an inconvenience at this point but just when I thought it can’t get any worse in my life, I could have more than one cancer right now. I have fought hard my whole life and will continue to fight. ❤️ Congratulations on beating stage 4 cancer that is quite the achievement!!

My cancer does not respond well to chemo (I have been having surgeries and a form of radiation therapy and a drug that I have to take for the rest of my life) so I can’t imagine having chemo but I could be soon. 😢 Also the thought of having a liver resection while so ill, is scary. I hope I can be as strong as you were and get through it if this is my fate too. Thank you for sharing your story I now have more hope and will fight harder. ❤️

    • Want to go to heaven? Trust Jesus Christs Life, death, burial, and Resurrection alone. His death on the cross for your sins. He shed his precious blood to atone for your sin! You can't be saved unless you acknowledge that you're a lost sinner.. and that you deserve hell, and that Jesus Christ died for your sins.. he was your substitute. His blood is your payment. If you don't plead guilty, you will have to pay your sins yourself (eternity in Hell) All you have to do is trust in him..( asking him to forgive you and save you) and you can spend eternity in heaven with God. It's personal. You can have His righteousness transferred to your account so you don't have to be judged for your own sins?( instead you get judge based on his righteousness.) Don't trust mary, don't trust your baptism, don't trust your church membership, don't trust your good works/goodness. Salvation is in Jesus Christ alone nothing more. Eternal life is a free gift and Jesus paid it All. Christians are good because we love him, not to earn our way to heaven. There is so much fake christianity, many people who have tried to work their way to heaven as a fake Christian will get cast down to hell because they're trusting in their own good works and not Jesus Christ alone.

I pestered my doctor as soon as I saw blood - and was fobbed off as ‘too young/women of 40 just don’t get bowel cancer’ but I ‘knew’ - I didn’t have weight loss or extreme tiredness etc. All I had was blood and constipation followed by diarrhoea. After years of of complaining he finally referred me for a sigmoidoscopy & was told immediately I had a 7cm tumour in my rectum. I had that removed 10 years ago today - after radiotherapy & chemotherapy pre-op followed by adjuvant chemo & stoma reversal 18 months later. I’m so glad I nagged or I wouldn’t be here today

She also worked for a gastroenterologist. I do believe not overlooking ANY changes. I know if she had found it earlier by going to her Dr...she would still be here. Last Oct I began seeing blood in my pee bag and became anemic. The PHX VA imaged a "mass" in the left kidney. They refused to biopsy and told me all they would do is wait til it was larger, then resect the entire kidney... Butchers.... A friend who's been fighting prostate cancer sent me a bottle of Fenbendazole and after a week of one per day, the bleeding stopped. You can kick cancer in the sack, but your doctor may be less than helpful. Surgery left me with a crap-bag, no sex function, and a large hernia at the ostomy site. Not worth it. I'd rather be taking the dirt nap than live this way. Good luck ..

    • I wish I could get it done. I needed it done so long ago, as I've had terrible colon problems for years now. Everytime I try to take any laxative or colonoscopy regimen, it makes my heart race and I get dizzy then almost pass out, cause I have many other health issues as well. My doctors can't seem to find a way to help me around this issue. I'm afraid I may have colon cancer or something terrible like that but I won't know til its too late cause the only way to have a colonoscopy is to get fully cleaned out. And I can't do it...I've tried. I just wonder if I'm the only person who is dealing with these same issues and can't do anything about it??

    • @artandrea5348 Virtual colonoscopy is also known as screening CT colonography. Unlike the usual or traditional colonoscopy, which needs a scope to be put into your rectum and advanced through your colon, virtual colonoscopy uses a CT scan to take hundreds of cross-sectional pictures of your belly - Mayo Clinic

    • I just got my colonoscopy scheduled. I’m 34 and had some symptoms for awhile. These kinds of channels have motivated me to actually go get checked out. I trust the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and his son Jesus….whatever he has planned. But I do pray it is normal. Thank you for making this video.

  • If you want to help your gut, look into Kefir. I struggled myself with IBS with loose stools. No blood or anything, but lots of gas, bloating and loose stools. I discovered Kefir which is like Yogurt. I found a local cow farm that sells Raw milk and got some Kefir grains on Amazon and after about 2 weeks, I felt all the inflammation go down. I no longer have Gerd, or IBS. The stools are finally solid and have an amazing sense of well being. Now, I've gone from Kefir to fermenting other things like carrots, onions and pickles. So good.

  • Hey thank you for your factual openness in sharing your story. I love how you take control and totally get the middle finger theme. Your experiences and the way you found treatments is inspirational especially as most doctors in the uk start off by going 'are you losing weight?' 'Have you lost your appetite?' As an initial basis of diagnosing the seriousness of disease, obviously they then do blood tests etc but if you are in any way ignorant of facts like what you are so kindly and caringly sharing, people could then go off with a false sense of security. It's so easy to feel like you're making things up in your head or you're being a hypochondriac. I wish you all the best and hope you come back and keep us updated on things you've learned and shared. I'm sure you've saved many lives through this video. 🤗 Thank you and your family too

  • So glad to hear you doing good buddy. Weird this apprared in my videos. I often think about stuff like this. Ive been constipated for years for various reasons.hemoroids have become a close friend so i also see blood fairly regularly but like you said blame it on different things. I also in more recent months get random pains mostly down left side of my guts.fleeting pain i guess. I convinced myself to mention to the doc this year '24 so he did bloods. My kidney n liver he said were good. I was shocked and happy to hear this. I didnt really tell him about pains or blood tho. I always feel bloated and full of gas and just kinda unconfortable i guess is best way to describe it. Like not really feeling like eating much or enjoyinf food anymore. Watching your story/video has made me realise i need to talk about this with my GP! Thanks bro and i wish you all the very best for the future:))

  • ❤ The whole interview❗️Jason thank you for sharing your story & providing tips & advice for those who may be affected by this disease. So many nuances. As a 7 year Stage IV TNBC survivor, experienced voices are super valuable. I’m one of the lucky ones. Had a friend go thru a similar experience with rectal cancer (early stage). We fought hard to find a doc who would do the sphincter sparing surgery, but after standard treatment (radiation & chemo) he was not deemed a candidate for treatment. He’s living a full life now with his “bag”…DJ’ing & 🎉. Jason your positive approach & attitude will make all the difference. God speed for continuous recovery & a healthy life moving forward. Hugs --K

  • I can’t relate to this , but I can relate to the fact that I left something untreated and I should have gotten looked at sooner. It’s not as severe and critical as your take, but a retinal tear was overseen by 3 optometrist until the last diabetic eye exam I went too, I just had scleral buckle surgery and cryopexy, to fix a retinal tear , breaks my heart how strong and how fragile the human can be , but in the end it’s all about YOU to take care of it. Never realized how little signs can be big things, thank you for the video and my dad also has been suffering from Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer and he had no resolution other than chemo , it’s in his bones and his liver .

I get colonoscopies every six years, at MSKCC, where I was treated for my breast cancer. So far, no cancer, only internal hemorrhoids and a benign polyp occasionally. Thank you for your advice.
