The reason they have their mv references is that they are showing the ICONIC eras they had and then pulling the shutter down because they're moving on from that to something different and new. That is why in the end they go up and when they get out of the lift, the lights turn on again to show their impact. Also, my favorite references were the Jennie d4 tank which is a more upgraded model that they used in the d4 and the rose sitting on the world just like in their debut whistle however it turned black and pink showing their dominance.

The song “Shut Down” is a clap back at the hateful comments they received during hiatus. It also shows us how BLACKPINK is moving on from the past and starting a whole new era. That's why the video is in a storage unit so they can lock up the past and focus on the future!
YG gave us 4 rappers 4 singers in SHUT DOWN. This comeback, the PINK VENOM & SHUT DOWN, the 2nd album is definitely an out of the comfort for the BLACKPINK and the blinks. Mostly expected too much because of the "2 year" absence of the group from the spotlight. BUT, YG/BLACKPINK DID DELIVER. It's just that it was not "the expectation" that we were anticipating. PINK VENOM was a homage to the hip-hop community while SHUT DOWN was the girls recognizing their back to back achievements since their debut. They are record breakers. Even the b-side tracks are so amazing. Vocals wise, they matured so much. I guess the 2 years break passed by for nothing. If you are new to kpop or not a YG stan, PV and SD are a CLASSIC YG music. Reminding us who are the masters of hiphop in kpop.

As an ex-blink, I thought this song is actually very very very good. Beside the lit raps and meaningful lyrics, at last they came up with a descent and well thought chorus with rich filled lyrics and melody. Very nice.

The tank, Lisa holding the sword, rose swinging on the chandelier, jisoo with the umbrella and also that part she was holding the camera all reference to ddu ddu du. Lisa's first verse, rose sitting on the globe and the four of them in the car as call back to whistle. Lisa's first verse and the second chorus setup as reference to Boombayah. Like the whole song seems (to me) tryna bluff other Kpop bands or haters and show off how great BP is as they’re above South Korean trend.
