Sudan died in 2018, his sperm was collected, consequently, Northern white Rhino embryos have been created and surrogate mothers of the surviving subspecies, the southern white rhino, have been identified, as Najin and Fatu are unable to carry a calf to term. Najin's eggs are no longer being harvested for ethical reasons. There's still hope.

I can't express how angry this makes me. I remember it all started when I was a child and no matter what the effort it seems there's nothing that will stop the vicious idiots who think rhino horn can improve a man's virility. In just one generation they will be no more...

Rhino’s have been around for 40 million years. Humans have been around for 300k years. The cruel irony that it’s horn evolved for defence, and ended up being the ultimate target for its destruction.
There are two in biopark here in Rome but they are aouthern White rhinos

This is an old video because I know Sudan has since died. I had the privilege of seeing the last three northern white rhinos in existence. A few months after a pregnant female was murdered and her horn cut off. It was so sad to witness the man made extinction of a subspecies. All the gentle giants that I saw were all related and so could not breed, the females also had difficulty conceiving and couldn’t be impregnated with frozen sperm. Although the end is here for the northern whites, the southern whites and the black rhino live on and we need to do what we can to stop those species from going extinct as well. They still have time. Whether it is from new or old sources - never buy Ivory or horns - don’t feed the industry.

The saddest part is, that these animals are the ones we notice. Each day species disappear, most of them never to be seen again.

Very heartbreaking that these majestic beings are hunted down and forced near extinction for no reason other than people could. Much praise to the people who dedicate their lives to protecting and healing all the creatures we humans have such a negative impact on. ❤️
They are effectively extinct the male died in 2019 and only the 2 females are alive. All efforts to create offspring have failed. So the 2 females are just living pieces of history.

I couldn't help but think that Sudan was crying, knowing that he is 1 out of 3 of his kind left. I would cry and be scared too. But despite knowing this I wouldn't lose hope. I hope this rhino lives out his last years completely healthy and happy.

I am glad that despite this sad story, progress is being made in Africa when it comes to protecting and increasing wildlife habitats. just for example, in southern africa they are removing all fences and thereby ensuring that the wild animals get a gigantic habitat, this will bring back the old great migrations and give animals like the cheetah the opportunity to travel enormous distances again. and therefore more opportunities to reproduce, which will increase the population of the cheetah. Despite a lot of persimism, there is still hope for future generations!

He has since died (in 2018 I believe) But I thought there were three females still left? Rhinos are such beautiful animals. I was lucky to rub and pet one some years ago (it loved every minute of it) If I were there I would probably hug Sudan and start bawling like a baby. The species didn't deserve such a cruel thing to happen to them.
This is old footage, Sudan the last male died in 2018 and there are two females remaining one of whom is old and barren.

we spend so much money looking for aliens on other planets when we have such a beautiful diverse spectrum of creatures here on earth
Wow I’m appalled at how long it took to take the extreme measures to protect them when it could have made a difference. Thankfully there are now people out there like the ones here fighting to protect the planets most vulnerable species and I hope they are successful in combating poaching and similar crimes.
I remember reading about Sudan death in our newspapers back in 2018. I was graduating school and we got daily newspapers in the library, it was heartbreaking.
Sadly, Sudan died of natural causes ...old age in March of 2018. He had never produced any offspring. 😢😢❤️❤️❤️
Well I heard some news in hopes the the female norther white rhinos who are left on the planet giving birth to babies next year! I`m crossing my fingers hoping for that to happen!🤞🤞

He's the last of his kind, a tragedy which has played out so many times in earth's natural history. Species after species. My generation is dying out so I can feel that a little. The world will go on but without us. A different world. Prayers for this guy.

Poachers should be executed on sight. No trial, no interview, just instant correction.
They are (in a way). The Kenya Wildlife Service rangers are authorised by law to shoot poachers on sight

At first it sounds crazy, but this is a reasonable measure to take given how their prey are always endangered animals.

People think poachers are the problem, they’re not. It is the people that buy them. The countries that still allow it to be legally sold, the governments around the world not taking action against the markets selling them.

Humans are like a natural disaster that this world has never seen before
Mankind is the only species that cares when they drive another species to extinction. 99% of all species that ever existed were already extinct when man evolved. Don't let your emotion control you. Many species extinct each-other. We're the only species in history that ever protected another not for sheer mutual gain, but for compassion.
@@Ranstone In a way I do agree, and I really hope it is out of compassion, and not simply to set up a safari or a zoo for tourism. We may have compassion towards animals but that doesn't necessarily stop us from populating and developing land. I bet a lot of people say they have compassion for animals and then buy an undeveloped lot full of trees only to wreck it all and build their new home on it. This is a natural thing though, so I can't really be mad at it. Any other animal species would do the same.

The things people have done, and continue to do with no "need for survival" excuse makes me sick.
I hope more efforts are made to bring this message along to the purchasers. Without demand, the poachers wont bother. If only we could condition the humans who buy it over the coming generations to understand that they are paying thousands for the exact same resource as you find on a horse or in our fingernails, I think the tradition would die out as the children of these ..uneducated buyers grow less interested in the product. (Not blaming it entirely on the buyers, poachers are still responsible as well, but it would certainly cost guards so much less resources if poachers had no reason to go for rhinos)
Poachers should get a miniscule of the blame to be honest. In the end most poachers are desperate people in the middle of corruption and criminals.
@@kenz2756 The political climate in places of the world where people struggle enduring through absolute poverty really is the cause for so much prolonged suffering and decay in those regions. For instance, you do not see these types of struggles in other more affluent places in the world where things like energy production via natural resources sustains a higher quality of life, allowing for a pursuit of more varied job specializations as prospects for a career. Very corrupt governments seizing and owning all manner of private capital resources is one thing that chokes local and market solutions, but through that is also the lack of a robust energy sector which effects drastically the cost and quality of living. That spills into things like conservation efforts being minuscule opportunities, which are instead internationally funded and funneled through approving regional government parties. Simply blaming humans as is the popular trope addresses nothing, all while supposing guilt onto all parties dismisses responsibility.

*I remeber as a small child about 7 we wemt to zoo a big zoo they had zebras giraffs tigers lions elephants and 2 White Rihnos we took pics and who would know now their almost extinct luckily i still have those pics to show my great grandchildren i am 24 years old now*

That’s it I’m taking action and I’m not gonna see another animal go towards extinction I want to help all the animals that are at risk of becoming extinct because without animals our world would fall apart rhinos are such gentle giants and we’re killing them just for money greed so take action and help endangered species today thank you ❤️👍
