    • @MUFC First of all, what does that have to do with his comment? Second, they were saying soccer would be the #1 sport in America by 1980, then by 1990, then by 2000.... and it's still not even close...

  • Bjorn Borg basically retired in 1981, in 1983 he retired from tennis. After 1981 he never played another grand slam , because of the Atp didnt allow him to play in the grand slams. The main reason why was he took time off and lost his ranking. In those days there were no wildcards , and wouldnt allow him to play in the grand slams unless he played in the qualifying tournaments. Borg was not going to play qualifying rounds to play in a grand slam, and the Atp would grant him any special favors, it was a loss for tennis.

  • Mac at 2:30 was how he looked when I met him and he signed a poster-sized photo I had of him winning his last tournament. Late '90's it was a cool look for him. I went to a lot of the "early" seniors tour events it was fun. People talk about the '84 McEnroe of course but to me I prefer the wood racket era Mac because of the extra body english he had to use given the frame. Next time you watch vintage vintage Mac just check it out. Watch the FH approach here: kzhead.info/sun/hLduj6qjmKSInJE/bejne.html

  • Look at McEnroe in 1977...Fila shirt and striped headband....clear Borg influence there! No surprise though...Bjorn Borg was the only player who John McEnroe truly respected. This was probably the reason why McEnroe never acted up when playing against Borg. They would have made an unbeatable doubles pairing!

  • McEnroe saved tennis. We owe the improvements made to line calling to him. Now if that spirit will only spread to baseball pitching !

    @RobertMOdell@RobertMOdell4 жыл бұрын
    • No way. Borg saved it. Before him there were only decent chaps in jumpers, boring as hell. And there came this nordic god with long hair and cool as ice who had all the girls after him. O no, certainly not McEnroe. Borg was there first.

  • To me, this was the apex of the sport of tennis: McEnroe v Borg. Contrasting styles and contrasting personalities, but mutual respect. They ended up 7-7 in their careers, but that statistic is somewhat misleading. None of their matches were on clay, Borg's best surface. McEnroe wasn't particularly competitive on clay. He didn't need to be, but it does in my opinion indicate that Borg was the more complete player.

    @christopherholton2738@christopherholton27387 жыл бұрын
    • Christopher Holton so competive ,that mac won 3 of their 4 finals in slams is the most significant statistic. Mac of 84,would have taken care of anything borg had to offer.

      @peterbrown6434@peterbrown64345 жыл бұрын
    • Mac had the most skill hands fucking down. And he could do well on clay as we know he should have kicked Lendl's ass at RG '84. Whatever, there's no dispute that tennis '74-85 was THE BEST and McEnroe and McEnroe and his rivals were all part of that.

  • It's hard to believe someone like Borg would retire from pro tennis at age 25, but he did. Now that I thought of it, it must be hugely tempting, you've already earned a bunch of millions, you're young , why not release yourself from the stress, the pressure and the hard work of being a pro athlete and just go enjoy your millions while you're young? It seems like a pretty decent idea, however, very very few have in fact done it.
