In fact Carl never died in the comics, the comics had a definitive ending with Carl as an old man with kids and the World becomeing relatively normal again with the hordes of walkers decaying to the point of becoming just a minor nuisance and people accepting becoming Walker's after death is just a fact of life and coming up with ways to deal with that when it happens.

The next few seasons weren’t the same without him but it was cool to see everyone adapt and learn how to work as a team even though they all have their own problems to deal with.
