The matchup changed after 2003 when Roger stopped trying to force himself past Hewitt's defenses and started using the slice to mix up the pace. Like Fed once said, Lleyton could go an hour without missing, and he was very comfortable with pace, so his slice forced the Aussie to hit shorter often and then he pounced.

After multiple losses in 2004, this match felt like Hewitts last chance to prove that he could still be competitive in the rivalry having dominated Federer in juniors. In the end Fed utterly demolished him like it was a walk in the park.
