Just my opinion but if he's a "trained" martial artist shouldn't he actually be putting his body into the cut?
For the next epesode can you make the macedonian sarissa spear its from 4 to 6 ft long it was used in the phalanx
The moment the judges say "your blade is heavy" you better start praying your opponents blade shatters because otherwise you're beat.
Lmao
ngl the old dudes blade looked bent to me
@@TheEthanEdge it is
I find it odd they discounted a little extra weight but not the fact the winners blade freaking bent
@@mikethefarrier I'd imagine because it was because one sword was designed as it should have been. Meanwhile, the other sword did hold up better, but thats because it didn't follow the design they were given

I'm actually so happy that someone using a more "traditional" forging method won this competition. Besides, he just seems like a nice dude :)
I ALWAYS cheers for the guys that use more traditional methods, whether it be forging things by hand, using coal forges, etc
@@dulago he was wise. Traditional where it suits him and a power hammer so he doesn't lose a shoulder to his hobby/work. Also I was really glad he could finish up the sword nice and durable after that struggle with making proper fullers.
Won with a blade that took damage. Lost against a functional blade that's ready for the next battle.

True Damascus doesn't even really exist anymore.
@@angelschuck3257 That's false. Though what these smiths call damascus isn't it by a long shot, that is pattern welding. There is also very little reason to make damascus anymore as modern steels are better, but the recipe for it is decently well known in the relevant academic fields.

Trevor's work area and open forge are very similar to what my grandfather had. I loved it there & to watch him work. He did a lot of horse shoe working.
Seeing those blades bend when he hit the ice with em gave me anxiety like nothing before
But that's what you want with a blade like that! You need flexibility in the blade or it will be so rigid it will snap in a blade that thin. Think how easy it is to snap a rigid twig versus a bendy one. It is crazy how flexible epee are!
I've been binge watching these episodes for a couple of days and man, that is one of the most beautiful blades I've ever seen, though the other was a great blade also. I am mesmerized by the skills of these smiths and so grateful to be learning so much from this fine series. Now, where's that BBQ? :)

Yeah almsot every blades that get “ur blade is on the heavier side” lose

I'm here for my daily dose of IT WILL KEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL
Again someone losses because of weight issues. You'd think by now after so many Episode's weight wouldn't be a problem for them.
If it was too flimsy then it would have had a higher risk of breaking but it's usually pretty easy to figure out how is going to win these. If it doesn't break or have some other sort of major failure, it's the lighter one.
The man who's blade lost didn't flex at all and was heavy the sword they designed purpose is to flex and be light and fast
Judges are old and weak. They need a Warrior Judge.
They hire me I would break every sword.
lighter is better more nimble; easier to wield; less wasted materials all about that efficiency rating
I love the way this guy says kill
What I love about these videos are the comments. You guys are a blast
That file was not skating off the blade lol
He had bent that blade 180 locked in a vice and yes the file does skate
Confused yeah its supposed to be light however the winner took damage to the end of his blade. So damage to a blade and being lighter is better than no damage and heavier🤔
It did get damaged but not in a way that prevented it from functioning. Plus small bends like that can be fixed. It would have been different if the tip had snapped off or chips were coming off of it
The music in the background 10:02 I’ve heard it on a mobile zombie game I played in middle school Lol
If a blade takes a bend like that I would not want it in combat over a slightly heavier but stronger blade. I am not an expert like the judges are, but it seems that as long as your blade is lighter and does not flat out brake you will win.
That kind of rapier style weapon is historically more of a duel weapon than an battlefield combat weapon. Besides, blades bent all the time back then, it is easy to fix and you won't die because of it usually. Having a too heavy weapon however might make your weapon too slow to recover from strikes and to block, strike, parry etc. Wich can definatelly get you killed.
If you want a stronger blade that won't break under any circumstance i dont recommend a rapier, maybe you're better of with a battleaxe, mace, or a sturdy longsword.
The hosts hat looks ridiculous on him
I love how happy he looks when he says it will kill lol
Get that man a fine wheel grinder! was so nervous for him when he was trying to grind in the fullers with that big wheel.
