Very much enjoying this! Change gear ratio, tires(slightly smaller) and beefier rear end. Since the front tires don't actually drive it you can also go with narrower tires and wheels to improve clearance. There's also a stroker kit for the 1.8 that takes it to a 2.1 for more torque/HP. Can't wait to see where this goes 👍
Agreed. That is a 1.6 if it is a 1991. Not a bad idea to move to the 1.8. Good time to replace that viscous LSD with a Torsen or go aftermarket.
They should have found some UTV/SXS wheels/tires. I bet that would have worked nicely.
Definitely needs a five speed manual above all other things!!!
Or swap in a gm turbo 4 ecotec for more torque

My lifted Miata is my favorite car I’ve owned. It’s slow with the 30x10.5x15 tires but she’s getting nitrous and 5.38 gears real soon!

Reminds me of the time I bought an old 1994 Cavalier to take to the dirt pit. Saw a bunch of lifted jeeps messing around on a small hill. Waited until they were all up there and gunned it up the hill to join them. One of the guys just said : well boys... guess we need a bigger hill.

I've got a '94 Mazda Miata (called the MX5 in the UK) which is used for gravel autosolos (autocross). Manual box, brake lines routed inside the shell, hydraulic handbrake (E brake), welded diff with the aluminum casing reinforced with steel plate (as they like to snap the mounts off) and 2nd hand gravel rally tyres. Also got a 4 point roll bar with door bars & a hard top, just in case it ends up wrong side up. Made a sump guard from 'borrowed' aluminum road signs. Lots of fun for about $1000 all in. Not road legal anymore as time has lightened the rocker panels somewhat, but it gets trailered to events anyways.

I have had 69 different vehicles since I was 14 years old (24 years ago), and one car that I have always wanted to build ever since I was 12 and the first Gran Turismo came out in the original Playstation is a NA Miata with a 13B-REW and the six speed manual. It doesn't need to be a fully built engine with a big turbo or anything, but a reliably built 13b with even a stock turbo would be plenty for a car of this size. Think about how much more capable this car would be with 250 whp...forget about that 1.6L 113 HP 99 lb ft, hit up the Vargas Brothers and I can guarantee that they'll be happy to build you a reliable 13b for the Off-road Miata...and no N20 needed, the engine will make WAY more horsepower and torque than that sheety 1.6 with nitrous. Still, this is fun to watch. I remember how pumped I was to see it on MTOD.
People put 6.0 LS in this bodystyle miata with a 6speed t56 - probably waay cheaper than a built 13B
that thing is awesome. I live shreveport la and we have a 4 wheeler park here called muddy bottoms and I will bet you any thing if someone who rides out there sees this show they will build one. Great job guys

That thing, in the first dip, looked like an old Kawi Z1 900 superbike smacking the bottom of the Gravity Cavity at the older REAL Road Atlanta. Frame flex and all. 🤣🤣🤣
You gotta respect the miata...not running right, stock wheels/street tire and on wet dirt but it still went where it was never designed to go. The formula of light weight rwd is still the best. It's a shame cars can never be that light today.

You should have swapped in a small block ford engine in it. They sell lots of different kits to make it easy.
reverse thread lock nut remover. Had one in my toolbox since 16, just in case. works every time.
Coming from a fella who currently owns 4 NA (first generation) Miatas I 100% support MORE Miata content! Also automatic Miatas all have Peg-Leg diffs. NA and NB chassis. (first and second gen).

If anyone was else is cheap like myself you can do this with just the paco 3” lift for like $300. I’m sure these are better but all we did was the 3” adapter cut room for 30” tires and put in a bar to protect the radiator. All in with cost of the car was like $1800 and it was ridiculous capable for the Florida gambler.

Mazdas are actually surprisingly good at weird stuff. I ran my parents protégé up a hill like that in snow and made it to the top and down easy. Only difference was I had great snow tires

You dont need knobbys just use tire chains. Best episode yet. I think people swap in a solstice diff they are better or something
I know these engines are tough and will take a turbo, but I was impressed that the nitrous didn't blow it up, yet! It needs to be lifted even more!
They'll do 200bhp with a turbo all day so a 50 shot of NOS on a stock engine will leave plenty of headroom. They could probably go 100 shot if they weren't bouncing it off the limiter constantly.

For wheel locks use a die grinder to cut a slot in the top then use a chisel and hammer to split the nut. Takes a couple mins for each one. Cut many of them off at the dealership because people can't find the key or the key is junk. The special sockets to remove them all are not very good compared to just splitting them.

Its like this generations baja bug. Only you can't easily replace the fenders and don't have the weight over the rear tires. There's a specific generation porsche you can do this to.
Ya know some JDM fender flares and gear or the aforementioned turbo LS swap that can be awesome
