Corsair HS80 MAX Review - An Aimbot for your EARS
The Corsair HS80 MAX improves on the original Corsair HS80 in SO MANY ways by including better positional audio (it really is good), more wireless features and better battery life. But what about the HS80 MAX Microphone? Well it may be an aimbot for your ears but there's more to making the best gaming headset than just 3D audio.

The color palettes of your videos is so pleasing
Thanks thanks 🙏 -D.
thanks for the comparison! i think for me, the benefits of bluetooth and the better audio outweigh the cons of not being able to use it wired and a slightly worse microphone. right now im using the logitech G435 and im definitely ready to upgrade!
This is the quality review that I've been looking. Thank you!
Awesome, watched this to find out whether I should get the MAX, and now I bought the HS80 RGB.
Your headset videos are the best! thanks!
I am keeping my HS80. Thank you for the great video.
Your review of the first one got me to buy the HS80 recently. Was waiting for your review on the new one. I'm a small podcaster, got it mainly for the mic
I still use my Corsair Virtuoso SE they are about 3 years old now I love them so much they head band is worn and I’ve replaced the ear cups 3 times but I love them if or when they eventually die it’s nice to know Corsair are still making good wireless headsets
Was on the fence as to whether I should get the HS80's or the Max, this video cleared that up for me....Original HS80's it is, thanks as always Dmitry 😄
great great video as always!! now im very indecisive between the hs80 and hs80 max... there's so many great updates with the max, but the mic being a lil bit inferior to the previous and also not being able to use it wired, im having SO much difficulty choosing which to get 😅
thank you, i’m used to hyperx which mine just broke and i had just bought the cloud stinger core wireless, it’s not what i thought it would be, positional wise it’s amazing, i could pretty much tell where they were. so i looked the the hs80 max and i just got it, waiting for it to ship, im pretty excited after watching your review. i think it’ll make a great headset
I would like to get some updates from u about ur experience with hs80 max if possible, thx.
Hi! How is it compared to the HyperX? My Cloud 2 is aging and I plan to buy the HS80..
Great Video. I love watching your KZhead headset videos. I own the cheap Corsiar Void Elite wireless and I love these. I worked as an audio engineer in the 80's and 90's audio indsutry and used headphones like the AGK 240 to listen to magnetic tape quality. Granted it's not the supreme golden drop of sound but it's what the listening audience listens to at best. I've even tested using cheaper, scrappy Walkman type headphones. Reason being, if tape sounds good on cheapie sound systems, it's gonna sound great on bigger boom boxes. And it many cases, on good home sound sysems it'll be capturing magic. So yeah, I can relate to the headset videos you've made.
You are the only person i trust when it comes to microphone tests :D
A few I trust here on youtube, but he is definitely one of the best to do it..
love your reviews!
Hopefully you get a set of the new Corsair Virtuoso Pro headset to test out and review. I find your reviews are the best to make a buying decision.
Great review as always! Still looking for a wireless headset with good position audio for playing cs:go. Should replace my wired sennheiser pc 363d which is really good and more on the open side. Could the corsair be a good candidate or is it too closed ?
Awesome video as always. A question, will you guys be making a video looking over the newly released Corsair 3000D PC Case. I feel like Corsair didn't promote it and its been very quiet. I think its a case thats worth looking over and also comparing it to other models like the 4000D
gaming companies finally improving mics is exciting. The HS80's and Razer's Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 version mics are both really good
What about background voices ???
Is it good for streaming or previous hs80
@@BossBabyAD the Black shark seems to have the best headset mic in gaming period. I'd check out a a few other reviews and you'll see. Just make sure it's the Pro 2023 version
Some other options with good mics are the epos h6pro and pc38x. They might not be available soon though due to epos shutting down their gaming branch :/
the 2023 version has a ton of problems, mostly with constant white noise (not the mic)@@ParadoxEP
dude, your details are INSANE! Answered everything anyone would ever ask when buying a new headset, keep up the amazing work, earned a sub
Awesome 👏 and welcome! -D.
Positional audio is why I used a Pysko audio headset for such a long time. Music play back was quite poor but the positional audio was like nothing I had ever heard before. CoD I was starting to get through wall kills because I could hear and pinpoint their positions on the other sides of walls. As a result I was starting to get kicked from servers and accused of using actual wall hacks. Not that I have been able to try as many headsets as yourself I have yet to hear anything that was as accurate as that headset.
Same happened to me with Steelseries nova pro
R u talking about the hs80 max or another headset, n do u use dolby atmos?
i've got the hs80 and at first i thought about switching to the hs80 max but there are just too many tradeoffs for me because i don't wanna downgrade the mic quality and i really don't like the missing felxibility of using the headset in wired mode. still interesting improvements they put put with the hs 80 max
this is the exact reason why i am not going to change it. you can't use it in wired mode. who had thought of this?
@@stevenbauer2003 yeah absolutely dumb decision, imagine you take the headset somewhere and forget your dongle
@@funxify7848wouldn’t you just be able to use it in bt mode?
@@MelBeKing first off the mic quality wouldn‘t be the same with bluetooth and not every device has bt (for example the ps5 doesn‘t allow audio via bluetooth)
Honestly the mic is way better than I would ever need. Im kinda surprised it worked that well. And then the normal version blew me away like that is a professional mic what.
If the microphone quality improves with a firmware update in the future, I'd love to see a video~.
I was so getting so hopeful because I've been looking for a wireless headset with a decent mic. I finally stumbled upon the HS80 and was like, this is awesome! Once I saw they had the HS80 Max. It sucks that they had to take a dump on the mic : ( I think I'd have to go with the original for two reasons - the mic is better and also being able to use it in wired mode is also a plus. Thanks for the comparison!
between this and the new BlackShark v2 pro (2023), which one do you recommend?
How do you like the Fiio FH3s now? I bought those on your recommendation. Did you stop using IEMs in general for gaming?
I'm using the hs80 and I love it. But it has 2 big problems. Really small range for connection (can't leave the room with my wireless headset) and the worst cable in cable history. I was hoping they would fix that and leave the rest
Good vid. Also, how many people have told you that you look like Danny Rand in Iron Fist?
Looks awesome, especially that you can switch between devices with just the click of a button. I am having a hardtime choosing between this and the steelseries arctis nova pro though
Same what did you end up with
@@ocatvioanaya6250 I went for SS, 0 regrets.
Hey, thank you for the review. What would you pick between this and the Razer blackshark v2 pro 2023? It sounds like the microphone on the razer is slightly better but I'm torn when it comes to sound quality and comfort. Also I have a razer mouse and not having to install a 2nd software would be an advantage, but I would do it if the difference is noticeable between the two.
Would be nice to get a wireless headset roundup before black Friday that includes the Audeze maxwell.
What watch band is that on your wrist? It's slick!
Just switched to the max after regular hs80 for a while. Question: is my headset messed up or is the mic monitoring/feedback really low quality? Like my voice sounds very bassy and weird unlike the regular ha80. Is there a fix for this?? Thanks!
Hello, what kind of wireless headphone could you advise? I can't choose
Hey, does it sound as good and detailed as the H6Pro or is it worse?
Mike when can we expect review of the ak620 digital?
Can you hear yourself talking (Monitoring)? And if so, is it hardwired from mic to speaker or softwarebased with an annoying delay?
I was tempted to get this one over the hs80, but when I heard you can't run it wired and the mic is not as good sounding as the original.... I'll stick with the hs80.
I was looking into getting a new mic, and its kind of between HS80 or Razer barracuda. I do have a AC in my room that produces noise, and I would like something wireless. most important is I need the audio quality to be great, i feel like i struggle hearing a lot on my games. TY
great review. Anyone have experience with escape from tarkov with these headphones? audio is such a crucial part of that game
It would be great if you have some nice DAC review.
Having purchased the HS80 Wireless not too long ago, I found this video quite offensive. Not because of HC or the video, but because I purchased a thing and not long after there is a new "upgraded" thing. Seeing the video now, I think my purchase is still fine, since the Max seems to be a downgrade of sorts. Still have questions: 1) The original, as mentioned, automatically connects as USB when plugged in. But, that is also annoying. Does the new one also automatically switch on when plugging it in while it is supposed to be powered off? 2) I found my HS80W also has a tactile power button, so there is that. But, do you still have to hold it for 3 full seconds to power it on or off?
I would love to see a Hardware Canucks Headset checklist, similar to the monitor checklist on Monitors Unboxed.
You gotta review the Audeze Maxwells
I simply use my Samson SR860 wired headphone and ear-worn headset microphone that attached to the side of my headphone. Plus, I do the noise-cancellation and compression manually using rackmount hardware equipment. No software needed for microphone adjustment. But if I do want a gaming headset, I would still prefer a headset microphone that has a 3.5mm jack, so I can plug them into an XLR adapter or 1/4" connector so that I can do some processing in the hardware side. And no, stationary microphones are not for me since I want to be able to move my head around, especially since I have a 42" OLED TV up close to me. Even then, games such as Cyberpunk 2077 has small text that can make it difficult for me to read, especially the overhead text that shows up above the person's head. Cyberpunk 2077 has poor accessibility support.
As someone who has a kid I really can’t do noise canceling headphones. So it’s nice to find high quality open backed or closed ear that let me hear what’s going on behind me lol.
Might wanna take a look at Drop X EPOS PC38X then, one of the best out there in terms of open back headphones for gaming. I own them and I love them.
Yeah it’s nice. It’s not open-style level but it’s not next-level isolating either. Just right for gaming IMO. -D.
Yes! Same here! I have tried so many headsets and I just can't do the isolation. Open back has been my go to but I may give the HS80 OG a try.
This. with how popular noise canceling is right now, it's really hard to find stuff that's velour and doesn't make your ears melt
@@HardwareCanucks we need some companies to start getting innovative with wireless open back headsets.
Can't wait for the next headphone thumbnail
Next week im actually buying a new headset but idk which one should i choose the hyperx cloud ii or the corsair hs80 max pls someone help me😅
The noise cancellation is probably in as someone that owns the HS60, the mic even picks up sound from the headphones themselves as the sound leak is kinda high.
Good video! Keeping my HS80s. I have a suggestion for a video. Have you seen all of the Chinese gaming mice coming out with Pixart 3395 sensors? Stuff like the Delux M800 Pro, Darmoshark M3, VGN Dragonfly F1 Pro, Attack Shark X3, Zaopin Z1 Pro, etc. All of these are available for a really low price and can outperform some of the most expensive mice available for around $30-60. Would be cool if you could check one of these out.
I have darmoshark m3, it's good for the price but sometimes sensor gets laggy, I don't know why, and in most cases polling rate is below 1000, at maximum use of mice 99% of time it sits between 950-980 hz. So this mice is good, but not that good. Also software is actually bad
I'm having the same issue with the sidetone function on my HS55 wireless headset. (literally have the put the mic in my mouth to hear mysef) They sound great and everybody tells me the mic sounds way better but not being able to hear myself is driving me nuts. I wonder if there is a FW update in the future or something.
I am still confused between this and the arctis nova pro plz tell me which one will be a better upgrade
Would you choose this or the Razer Blackshark v2 Pro 2023 edition?
Are you planning to review razer blackshark v2 pro 2023 edition?
ok, this is gonna be my next headset, hopefully it's released in my country at some point before everything explodes
Ok so, mic IS improved although, I’ve gotten MANY complaints about it being too quiet in many games/discord etc
How about vs to audeze maxwell? Is that worthed to buy for gaming
You shouldn't underrate the huge increased amount of battery life. 65 hours (without rgb, with rgb only 24h) on the hs80 max, and 20h on the hs80 (unknown if with rgb turned on or off, I guess it's off though 😂)
I wish you could use 2.4 and BT simultaneously like a steel series headset. It’s honestly such a huge advantage
can you do tair about every headset you have reviewed
Could you guys review the new audeze maxwell? That thing is the best wireless headset under 500 bucks. It IS pricey but you're getting audiophile approved gaming headset. Which says a lot. Gosh I can't even look at the graph of hs80. Bloated, muffled and sharp.
Hey ive had some bad experiences so far unfortunately the audio will die and disappear from Icue. So I'll have to unplug the dongle then plug it back in so that I can do it again in 20 minutes lol I've tried 2 headsets at this point. The 1st one has the issues I stated above. The 2nd one I got a few days ago to replace the 1st one but that one came DOA. The left driver was dead. Zero sound coming out of it. Updated the firmware and did all the troubleshooting on it. Just came dead lol. I have decided against my better judgment to order a 3rd headset... Support basically just wanted to send me another dongle. I don't think it's a dongle issue but a software issue. So now I'm thinking of just giving up on the hs80 max all together. Which is a shame because I love it when it works
Does the headset save your volume settings on console after powering off and on or does it just default back to the highest volume you set on the console?
It saves it on PC, not sure about console. -D.
The hs65 surround is super underrated for the price too mic is amazinf!
I bought the Corsair HS80 Wired after your review of the new Corsair headphones last year. I have been really happy with it.
The one thing that I have to complain about my pair of hs80s is that less than six months of usage, my ear pads glue gave up and the pads started to disassemble itself and show its internal foam. What I did was I glued it back and it has hold up for about five months now.
there are plenty of ear pads you can buy from third party. I got a gel leather ear pad and an extra fabric.
isn't 6 months still in there warranty period or am i stupid??
@@fillezzoWhile this is a good solution, this should not be the expected durability in under 2years.
I got free earpads replacement from Corsair.
Nice headset Corsair!
Review Audeze Maxwell please!
So they still sound flat, you can't listen to two audio sources at once.. ... why? :( I bought the Corsair HS80 because of the microphone based on your video and love the MIC but hate the sound! Grabbed a pair of ARCTIS NOVA 7X WIRELESS XBOX and never looked back. They have nice bass!! I haven't used with the microphone much because I user another one but it sounds ok.
I guess i'm crazy but the HS80 Wireless sounds better than the wired to me. Not sure how to describe it, it sounds almost more robotic when wired
was waiting for this...very disappointed that they nerfed the mic quality. will there be an Audeze Maxvell review?
I'd love to see one, if they manage to get hands on them since they're backordered.
I think he said in his wireless headset roundup that he has some Maxwells on the way to review.
You know, this is 6:59 why I love you Dimitri
That headset seems great ! Does work fine with Linux (Steam Deck in mind) ?
Make a video for best positional audio headset. I just want to buy the best one. doesnt even need a mic. just the best one. open and closed back. pls thnx :)
How do you fix the sidetone on this thing??? I maxed the windows volume and the sidetone volume on the icur software and i still cant hear any sidetone??
Just came across these. So I will be fine getting the wired version? New to online gaming
Is the Virtuoso better than the HS80 Max? I’m still rocking the Void Pro, but looking to upgrade, but can’t decide between the two
Haven't tried the Virtuoso, so can't comment on that. But since you're coming from a Void Pro, which is also my current headset, just know that HS80 is a much smaller headset. I wasn't able to wear the HS80 comfortably and had to return it. So yeah, just a fair warning if you have a bigger than average head, which I find a lot of people with the void pro does, since it's a headset that can fit absolutely massive heads.
nice headset. I use creatives sxfi for immersive gaming audio.
Great video as always. Not being able to use it as a USB headset is a deal breaker for me...
Same. Not sure why they removed this function. -D.
Same Here not going to buy. shame corsair 😔
Has these been tested on the ps5? I want to know how the Bg noise is on the ps5, on the original hs80 it was bad it does not supress any background noise at all.
damn that mic change is a deal breaker, also no USB wired mode is pretty bad too
Just got mine today, the audio format defaults to 8 channel? I can change it to 2 channel, but every restart it goes back to 8 channel...
Why are they going with omnidirectional over unidirectional? My head tells me that you only want sound from your mouth, and not from the surroundings?
Would you say the mic is better than the one on the 2023 Blackshark v2 pro?
It certainly is comparing to regular HS80
I've gotten better value by buying an He-x4 and pairing it with the Fiio K3, it is an open headphone tho, otherwise i use the crincle zero
Hiya, your reviews are why I purchased the HS80 wireless, but the microphone quality I'm experiencing is so poor compared to your examples. To anyone reading this, has anyone found a similar problem with your HS80?
had mine for a year now n im about to take them back cuz the mic has been acting up discord not detecting it on n off
DMITRI REVIEWS always 10/10
🙏😊 -D.
still waiting for Audeze Maxwell review
can the hs80 max do 96kh with atmos or dts-x? every time i try it sets it to 8channel with spatial sound off in sound settings.
What Bluetooth codec this headset is using? It's not mentioned over their page.
SBC.

I LOVE THE HS 80 SERIES GIVE IT THE VIRTUSO MIC FFS
From what i saw so far, i like the design and it looks RLY comfy! The only thing that is big no no for me is that u r not able to detach the mic :/
The microphone ruins it for me sadly, I'll stick with the Sennheiser Game One / PC38X thanks for the video!
The fact that it took them this long to include bluetooth is astounding
You alright, Dmitry? From the sound of your voice it sounds like something is troubling you (and I’m not talking about the headset review either). Hope things get better.
awesome
talked to corsair support just now, & support dude said the 80 max can be used wired(unless he misunderstood the way i worded my question). So not sure bout that part tbh.
I bought the hs80 and after only two months the cloth on the earpads started falling off and letting go of the glue. Now theyre hanging on by a thread. The sound is good and the mic is great but the most impressive thing is how short they lasted
Take them off and re glue them. For the price of these that is unacceptable. The plastic on them scratch just looking at them. Had mine for 2 days when I first started to see scratches and I very lightly handle them. Where they swivel in and out they scratch there also. Very poorly designed!
im dissapointed it doesnt have simultanious bluetooth and 2.4 ghz because i dont think the Virtuoso xt would be comfy for me but i do really like that i can use my phone and listen to my game at the same time XD
Im my headphones collection i have JBL 800 from 2022, i think i paid about 120USD for it It has both Bluetooth and 2.4ghz AT SAME TIME, i play audiobooks from my apple watch and browse YT on PC, when i don't watch something i play book from the watch, then pause to watch YT. Its all on same connection Also it has Noice cancelation Build in DTS:X surround and JBL surround [crazy surround mode from JBL], equalizer, presets and all the standard crap [you can measure your head size and enter the number in the software for better surround] If you want one, they have a new 810 model, but do compare 1:1 vs 800, i think they removed something that was available in 800 also there is 900 model and cheaper 600 and 400
