Chuckie:「i fucking kill you」
......
Chuckie: 「oh, i don't know that. 」
Chuckie: 「let me tell you what I do know. every day I come by to pick you up. & we go out we have a few drinks and a few laughs, and it's great.
But you know what the best part of my day is?
it's for about 10sec. from when I pull up to the curb to when I get to your door. because I think maybe I'll get up there and I'll knock on the door and you won't be there.
no goodbye, no see you later,
no nothin'. just left. 」
Chuckie: 「i don't know much, but i know that.」

This is what friendship is all about. You don't care what you say because your friend will benefit from it. It might hurt your friend's feelings, but you say it anyways. I'm lucky to have friends like this....and I owe my life to them....
I ended up losing a friend giving him a reality check guess he really wasnt my friend
I can't describe how good this scene is. One of my favourite scenes in movie history.
Right, “I’ll fuckin kill ya”
"You don't owe it to yourself; you owe it to me." That might be the single best line in the entire movie. There's more to life than doing what YOU want when YOU want. We have an obligation to the people around us to be the best we can be, even if it isn't always easy. Chuckie was a good friend. Maybe not so much in the beginning, when he helped Will beat that other guy up, lol, but what he says in this scene is golden.
Facts
There's not enough friends like this in true life.
2:41 his beer switches from right hand to left hand.
This scene encapsulates the whole movie. Love it!
Encapsulates... I see what you did there.
I'm not a big Ben Affleck fan, but he absolutely nailed this scene. And what a fantastic script this movie had. I know that people have a problem with Academy Award selections, but Damon and Affleck absolutely deserved their Best Original Screenplay Oscar.
Agreed, absolutely not a Ben Affleck fan, can’t stand him….but even I have to give him props for this.
this is true friendship
"Tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doing this shit." All the feels man.
This is easily my favourite moment in the movie.
It's about his undying loyalty to Chucky, Southie, etc.; the people and places that have become his family. He's afraid to take real risks in his life (Skyler, work, college, leaving South Boston, trying NOT to be a thug) and Chuck is just letting him know while those characteristics are great for most guys from that area, by staying put Will is wasting away the opportunity they all secretly wish they had when he is obviously capable of far greater things than the average guy. Just my two cents.
Bless anyone who has a friend like Chuckie
That line hit me, too; I have friends from my home town much like Affleck who are happy knowing "one of us" escaped our teeny little town.
Bless anybody who has a true friend like Chuckie :)
I cry everytime I watch this scene
+qweasdf58 Its not that theres anything wrong with being a normal guy, its just that working a construction job and living in a working class neighborhood is a hard life, and most people that do it, do it for lack of other options and would kill to have a better opportunity, so he thinks his friend is stupid to throw his away.
probably the best scene of one of the greatest movies i have ever seen
What a perfect analogy - "you're sitting on a winning lottery ticket." This one scene allows me to overlook all the rest of Ben Affleck's less than stellar work. I will forever be his fan because of this scene.
This scene is one of the greatest scenes in the history of movies.
Someone who tells you you're better than them is a true friend
Hits Home Hard
Such a good movie.
This scene is right up there with the park bench scene. It's that good. This is an amazing film. I only watch it every so often so it stays special.
I base my life on this scene.
I'm lucky to have a best friend like this. He's talked me out of wasting my life on something stupid before. I'm blessed. Oh, and this movie is the shit - makes me cry manly tears!
love this film, such a great meaning to get out there and see about a girl or whatever! 4 a! thanks for posting this!
My favourite scene from this movie. Thanks for putting it up.
I just finally watched this movie and this may be one of my favorite scenes of ALL TIME!
this is the best part of the film this bit is spot on great film x
Luuv this movie! this is what made it great. thanks for posting :o)
Love it, best scene.
What a great scene!
This is my favorite scene in the movie- very powerful, explains to us not to waste our talents... great movie.
What a terrific scene! Maybe the best scene in a movie that is full of great scenes!
Great film. Chuckie is a true friend.
my fav part!! great movie :]
Well, this for one is a very important part. Also it might help as an illustration if one has a talented friend who, for whatever reason, is willing to stifle the talent and not use it. Which is precisely why I looked for this particular scene and am thankful it was uploaded.
saw this movie last night. HAD to call up this scene again. affleck nails it.
the best scene from a great movie
everyone deserves to have at least one true friend like that in their lives.
This and Sean’s monologue are my favorite scenes.
Yeah, he puts the whole friendship on the line to say what is best for his friend. :)
Probably the most influential scenes in movie.
AWW MAN GOTTA LOVE THAT ACCENT!!!
Yep. A true friend will tell it like it is.
Now this is a true friend!...
Brings tears to my eyes
best scene from the best movie ever.
only a true friend can tell you like it is. one of the best movies ever produced
That is a real frined right there. The one that tells you to go after your luck even if it means losing your company.Great movie.
That is a true friend.
True friends! I wish i had a friend like that
This movie has some amazing dialogue.
Godamn what a great scene. What a great f****** scene!
it actually looks so nice in 4x3
Thanks. I've had similar conversations myself, in the same town.
You know, every person in this world should have atleast 1 friend like Chukie, this place would be a more peaceful place
Another profound moment, for the same kind of character/person by the same kind of person/character... both were equally powerful for different reasons, this one is all about pushing Will to something more, while what Alfred said was more him begging Bruce to abandon his rage and grief.... loved both movies equally for same reasons.
wow amazing movie :D
Best scene in the Movie I think
chuck just wants the best for his friend. Thats a good friend.
Not too many movies I liked with Ben Affleck, but he nailed this one. Perfect.
Batmans telling Robin off in this scene xD Btw love Good Will Hunting :3
i agree.
prolly one of the best scenes in modern film yea i know its not really modern its been 13 years now but its still a very good scene
we just watched this for my psycology class, I freakin love this scene.
This is my favorite scene in the movie. I love it. I have never talked to any Southies, never been to Boston, but I totally get it. That's why this scene is so good -- it's about their social class, but it's also about all of us. I can totally relate. I love Chuckie in this scene, bless him. Bless any friend who loves you enough to talk to you that way.
You remind me of one of my friends. Whatever movie he watches he has to have every single detail explained to him. Ate too many paint chips when he was a kid i guess
I felt like this, my friends use to tell me lines like this... bout how I should improve my life and try harder and all that... now, after all those friends left me and only one shield brother has stayed am I finally leaving this place and getting a better life... I am doing what I am suppose to do. I a have found my purpose....
I love that in the end, it is his best friend who isn't that smart who finally gets him to change. :)
There are so many arguments in the comments...geez just sit back and enjoy one of the best scenes ever! If you can't do that why are you here?
There's intelligence and there's wisdom, he's got wisdom
damn i almost cried this scene! lol
1:14
they dont need to be blessed. they allready are
Funny how tough guy chucky drinks his last sip of beer with the pinky extended.
"Still working construction" while his body gestures to what is going on around him is actually destruction. I always thought that was funny that Bens character did not know the difference. Then it dawned on me. "With destruction comes rennovation". This is the final phase of the destruction process for Will. Only after he is completely left destructed is he able to rebuild.
well said Mr Affleck..well said
This movie has the best lines and dialogue ever no doubt (even though I dont consider swearing a good thing)
geuss it works both ways because one day you'll be the person they want to leave behind
BEST scene in the movie. And you just know Matt Damon wrote the WHOLE THING.
This scene actually represents the trajectory that both of their careers actually took.
Im crying right now lol
I thought that might be what you were talking about. He wasn't being literal, he's just saying that he'll be doing this for the rest of his life, and before he knows it, he'll be 50 and nothing will have changed.
Oh, I get what you mean now. Yeah, somebody should do that.
fast times at ridgemont high by the ataris
its an expression. it means that he will be doing construction for the rest of his career life because he doesn't have the type of skills will has. will is an absolute genius and chuckie would do anything to have what will has. so he demands that will use his skills to build a great life for himself through a great career instead of letting it go unused.
Great movie in 2020, the ending was mess up, friends give him a car for his birthday than they pull up to his house the next day, the car is not there since he is on his way to California. His bud still knocks on the door.
I wish i had a best friend like chuckie.
That's exactly right. If you're a friend, then you owe to your pal to get in his shit when he's blowing it.
The characters has been friends since they we kids ..he was there when his father abused him as a kid. They live in poor town south Boston working minimum wage doing demolition. He would be happy if he wasn't there because it means he got out of that shithole town and made something better of himself. His friend knows he is a genius and wants him to do great things or at least have a better life. That's a true friend. You don't get it because you are not that smart.
"No fuck you. You don't owe it to yourself, you owe it to me." Great movie.
@davidjriley98 Exactley! he had all these professors etc... telling him what his potential was but it was his best friend who had his back through thick and thin who straightend him out and told him what he needed to hear.
i wish i had a freidn like that
Ugh I would KILL to have a best friend like him!
Svaberen - lighten up. I agree - you wouldn't want one of your good friends to just disappear without a word. I think in this case the friendship between the two characters is so strong that words are unnecessary, because they understand each other so well. If he left, his friend would be happy that he's making something out of his life, instead of being sad that there was no goodbye
Nope, his beer is in his right hand along with his cigarette, then when it cuts to a different angle it has changed hands.
Ben's finest moment as an actor
Agree about friendship. But Education??? I grew up with 100% NO confidence. 100% stopped me from pursuing college, felt I wasn’t worthy. Never mind I couldn’t afford it! My lot was pre determined, why try! When I heard people talk about education it made me me angry. If I I wasn’t educated - I didn’t matter. I didn’t know why until I watched this movie years ago after 3 kids later by age 24. Best scene! friend tells you he does NOT want you to be home when he knocks on the door? To have that kind of brain, that kind of friend, knowledge IS power! Hindsight is 20/20. Believe in you, get educated and you can change the world!
" i dont know much." but i know this: this speech and the whole movie is fuckin epic!
