His Brother, who was older at the time, was sent to fight against the soviets. The last letter he received from his brother said "Dear mother, it's so cold here! • The rapid modernization and industrialization through WW2 is crazy and very hard to wrap my head around. At the beginning of the war, armies consisted of WW1 and even Prussian era technology (especially france) and towards the end, you can see technologies common even in the 70’s. 🤯

  • My great grandfather was a bomber pilot, shot down during the invasion of France, he survived and was captured by the Germans. Sent to a Stelag and lived through the ordeal, he never talked about the war or his experiences directly, but he was writing a book before he died about his entire life and the lives of his comrades. I got to read his first draft of the book about 5 months before he passed. It’s unfathomable the things that happened to him, and the things he witnessed. Every time I ever hear anything about ww2 I think of brave, strong individuals like him who gave all of us our freedom all across the world.

  • It’s been almost 6 years since this video, but I just want to congratulate Oversimplified on the insane quality of his videos. While he definitely does what he sets out to do (very oversimplifies the topics), it is still clear to me that he is very knowledgeable on what he talks about. In the past few years I’ve started reading a lot more than I used to, and I just discovered from my current book that the whole “Japan doesn’t want to miss the victory bus” was an actual slogan adopted by Japanese commanders after Hitler’s victories in Europe. Just prior to his conquering of France, Japanese high command was seriously considering diminishing their presence in china, but German victory completely changed their mindset, leading to their eventual offensives. A small detail that I always remembered from this video, so it’s very cool to me that you based it off of something very real, and goes to show how knowledgeable you really are Oversimplified. Keep up the good work!

The Emperor's family still rules with the same powers and their high ranking officials were never punished for their atrocities. • I'm Romanian. We (were forced to) enter the war in German's side: my grandpa's older brother fought on the Eastern front. Before reaching Stalingrad, he was shot in the leg and had to recover in hospital. Extremely lucky for him. Most of his friends died during the battle of Stalingrad. In 1944, as the Russians pushed back the front, our military dictatorship collapsed and Ro had to change sides (in the meantime we were bombed by both sides for a while). Now my grandpa came of age. He fought on the Allied side through Hungary an well into Czechoslovakia. Then Ro troups were sent home without being recognized for their change of heart. All in all, both grandpa and his older brother survived after having fought on completely different fronts and sides. (uncle +1989, grandpa+ 2004). I loved my grandpa's war stories (always avoided telling me the gruesome stuff only a few funny bits). My lifelong regret is not asking him more... Bless him.

    @Wolfshalifi@Wolfshalifi9 ай бұрын
    • 1. The USSR fought with 5 armies (Germany, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Finland) 2. Greece resisted for a long time only because at first it was opposed by an Italian army that was weak relative to the Wehrmacht, but upon the arrival of German troops, despite the mobilization that the blitzkrieg was trying to limit, it was still captured. 3. Greece was helped by Great Britain and its dominions. 4. Two months clearly saved the USSR from defeat in an officially undeclared war, because during this time Germany could have been better prepared for it. 5. To put on a par the resistance of the USSR with 26.6 million victims and the resistance of Greece with 435 thousand victims and write that the USSR won only thanks to Greece is clearly adequate and fair. 👍

  • My great grandmother was killed in the Blitzkrieg. As a result, when my grandfather turned 18, his father gave him enough resources to flee occupied France (he proceeded to Italy where he met and married my grandma and eventually found their way to the US). My great grandpa, who stayed behind in France, then proceeded to fight with the resistance against the Nazis(at this point in time, he was around forty years old). I got to meet him when I was two during my first trip to France- he gave me the then disabled Thompson SMG he used as a freedom fighter and an Iron Cross which he'd taken off the chest of a Sturmbannführer (an SS Major) who he said he'd shot dead during the Liberation of Paris. Of course, younger me thought all of these were toys 'till I turned 15 and began taken real good care of them. I wish I got to spend more time with him, he'd definitely be the most badass person I've known. May God rest his soul in peace.

When the villagers asked him to stop, he said he wouldn’t stop unless him superior came to personally dismiss him.
