  • Friendly reminder that the AI in the metro series will search your last known location, react to bodies, notice you interacting with light sorces, will investigate strange sounds like player footsteps, fight with proper tactics to kill the player and can use explosives to get you out of cover. All this from a game from 2014

    @lordboostian.8802@lordboostian.88026 ай бұрын
    • Hell, even the ai in half life 2 from 2004 hold up well to this day. Thats nearly 2 decades

      @ImNotFine44@ImNotFine446 ай бұрын
    • To be honest, the only thing i dislike about the Metro series combat was the fact that despite the many chouces of weaponry, i would always find myself using the same weapons and tacics to play the game so it started to feel a bit repetitive. But thats not even the game's fault, its my playstyle. But unlike other games where they claim the AI does all these things but tgen just behave like cod 2 AI, Metro really felt like they delivered. It felt so real when you fucked up at being stealthy and now the entire station was actively looking for you for good. Hell, i'd sometimes find myself wishing it was more forgivable at stealth but then i'd remember it is realistic this way. The combat truly felt like a firefight in a tunnel would feel like. Slinging rounds left and right, being forced out of cover by explosives that did not feel like grenade spam but rather obvious in CQB warfare. The AI in the middle of combat either took up defences or straight up pushed you, not much else you can do in tunnel warfare but they used cover really well. Unarmoured enemies drop as you'd expect them to and the bullet sponge armoured targets were realistic because in tunnel warfare, you dont care about mobility so the behemoths in hardened steel armour felt like a real threat. (Shotgun rounds still dazed them like hell tho) Basically this whole rant goes to say i agree with what OP said and i love the way the Metro series AI and combat comes together.

    • hell, u can pick a game like metal gear 3 where shooting certain limbs causes them to not run away from you, not use their primary weapons and also get a massive accuracy reduction, but if you leave them alone, they'll play a healing animation, ''fixing'' their limbs you can interrogate them for codes for artilery or disperse alarm state you can throw some food to distract, poison, or stun them if you get the disguise, you can dress up as a general and they'll be perfecly fine with your prescense, even if you punch them they'll just go ''f-forgive me for trouble, sir'' while yes you can say that is unfair to compared COD to MGS series, my point is: a game that was launched in 2004 shouldnt be beating a game from 2023 in details, game design, and even story but yet here we are, in a gaming era where older games have story and gameplay 10x more engaging, fun and cool and even original compared to the so called ''modern'' ones..
