    • The translation of Rybakina's surname roughly means "Fisher". And she really catches her "fish" on the court, being calm and as concentrated as possible. But at crucial moments she acts precisely, powerfully and decisively.

  • what's remarkable is that Rybakina didn't even look like she had to push herself too hard or get too far out of her comfort zone to beat Iga. she pretty much just blew Iga off the court without any fanfare, grunting, shrieking, and all the other nonsense that many WTA players do to pump themselves up

    • Rybakina and her coach managed to solve the Iga puzzle and are now clicking it as if it were sunflower seeds. But unfortunately, Elena doesn't do it with all the players... Now there is some extremely talent-rich generation of players, in the TOP-10 everyone can win against each other.

  • Great match. Elena shows her how matured she has become . She will be one of the top players in this new generation of players. I have been following her for the last two years because I saw her raw talent and now she is confident of her abilities. Too bad for the rest of the field including Sabalenka. She shows the ferocity of Sharapova but the calmness of Stefi Graf and of course the power of the Williams sisters. She will be multi grandslam soon as long as her health keeps up. I predict that she will be the next one to win on all different courts. She will continue to dominate Iga just like Serena did over Maria. Sorry Iga I backed you when you won your first grandslam but now there is a new superhero .

    • @QuadThreat85 I totally agree that she is horrible. I don't know how the commentators praise her so much. I thought I was the only one who didn't like her but now I'm looking on KZhead and it's great to read what others are pointing out about her. I'm thinking she must be on drugs, or medication of some sort or something, to act like she does... totally, totally frantic and just thinking about herself the whole time. Doing her very best to annoy and unsettle her opponent. She's all me, me, me, me. And she's never ready to go to the net at coin toss never! Always searching for something in her bag, always makes her opponent wait. I was so glad when she got a time violation a few tournaments ago. Can't stand her.

      Mary KistnenMary Kistnen9 күн бұрын
    • @Mary Kistnen she has a little bag of tricks. Waving her hands while she is at the net before the opponent hits a pass, retying her shoes between first and second serves of her opponent, changing rackets mid service game (of the opponent) because she lost a point, a few extremely questionable timing of bathroom breaks... She's horrible.

If you notice, she's even wearing green emerald ear-rings for St Patrick's Day - and as an Irishman, I appreciate that. She's also beautiful, but that's another story which must not take away from her grace on court. Many players could learn from her, and I don't just mean about playing tennis.

  • I was fortunate enough to see Elena play in Toronto's WTA 1000 event last year, and even though she lost to Gauff in that match (Gauff had the defensive match of her life), I was blown away by the fluidity of her strokes and how effortless the power is she can generate on both the back- and forehand wing. At the time her foot speed was her achilles heel around the court, but in the off season she seemed to improve this aspect of her game, as she's getting to a lot more balls out wide, fully balanced, resulting in, a higher percentage of hard driven balls being administered to her opponents. It is devastating; most women, save for Sabalenka, cannot handle the barrage of pace Elena can now bring to a match. If she remains healthy, I would not be surprised if Elena (or Sabalenka, to be fair) were #1 by the end of the year.

  • I always knew the current generation of women tennis had potential to be great and consistent. And exactly players like Rybakina, Sabalenka and Krejcikova make the women tennis more exciting! Yeah, although the lost, Iga is still a great player, but she needs competition! That's great not only for us, as fans, but also for her, as player, because she would work to improve it. And i think Elena Rybakina could be her biggest kryptonite for long years... She has the playing style and mentality to be champion for long years!

    • @Lone Star yes totally agree loving the consistency now with Krejcikova Rybakina and Sabalenka now Iga has real competition

    • Elena definitely got Iga's number. You're absolutely right, as it only increases competition. Post-Serena WTA is as exciting as never before. Iga's demolition of her opponents was getting kinda boring.

  • Swiatek's heavy high bouncing top spin doesn't bother Rybakina because she's 6 feet tall! The ball bounces right at her strike zone!

  • Classy person she seems. Definitely going for world number 1 soon .

  • It's not a mental block that's preventing Iga from playing well against Rybakina. It's the powerful, flat balls from Rybakina which doesn't give Swiatek enough time to set up her shots. Iga likes slow, spinny balls like Gauff's, and only Rybakina in the WTA gives her consistent, powerful flat balls from both forehand and backhand. That, combined with Rybakina's serve which i think is the best in the WTA, is just too much for Iga to handle.

    edgar macabasaedgar macabasa13 күн бұрын
    • Swiatek didn't hit with enough depth, if you bounce balls on the service line it's easy for Rybakina to setup and hit, and she has enough power that even Swiatek can't get them back. Rybakina's weakness is mobility so you've got to hit deep into the corners and Swaitek couldn't do that today.

  • hats off to the spirit of iga... she gets there not to be sour and to cry. But to compete and to be happy and to be part of the tennis happy atmosphere. She is part of what we all aspire as tennis player. To challenge opponents to play and be fair. But beat them within that fairness. Love her too!

    • @Zweig Ackroyd Swiatek strong side is her consistency, so she might even stay on rhe top, but the level Rybakina reached in this match was incredible imo.

      Wolfgang WiesingerWolfgang Wiesinger11 күн бұрын
    • @Wolfgang Wiesinger Not sure what you mean by "strongest". I like Rybakina, but to suggest she's better than Williams is not supported by any evidence. In fact, the evidence suggests she's not up there with Graf, Seles, Navratilova, Barty, etc etc etc. Even the suggestion that her movement is better than Serena's is likely a product of recency bias. Will she rise? Very possibly. Will she make #1 some day? Also very possible, but not a given. It's not even clear she'll have the better career and record than Swiatek.

      Zweig AckroydZweig Ackroyd11 күн бұрын
    • I would not call this solid tennis, currently she might be the strongest player of all time, there is just no weakness. She has compareable power as Williams, but her movement is better.

    • @Blue Mountain I kind of admire Osaka for living her own life. It's a shame she struggles so much with the performative aspects of the sport, but that's what leads to the enormous paychecks.

  • Rybakina's game is such a throwback to the early to mid 2000s golden era of tennis. She reminds me of the Serena, Capriati, Venus, Clijstrers, Davenport, Hingis, Seles etc. era.

  • Elena from the beginning was successful in making Iga lose confidence and mentally becoming out of balance. Watch Swiatek in the break after the 7th game: she wanted to drink water without removing the bottle’s cap. This shows her unbalanced frame of mind throughout the match. Her defeat has nothing to with an ailing rib. Good luck Elena in the final.

  • The only path to beat Swiatek is getting more and more clear. She is vulnerable against a strong and acurate server. She can't engage her retruns in a proper way. Consequence: she feels a lot pressure on her own serve and she has problems to handle it.

  • I think this will always be a matchup issue for Iga. Iga’s heavy spin is an advantage against most players but it works against her against Rybakina because of her height and flat strokes. The ball is frequently right in her strike zone and allows Rybakina to hit down on the ball aggressively without taking a lot of risk

  • Elena is the real deal! Swiatek couldn’t read her strokes and where to go. Very interested to see the final again against Sabalenka. Wimbledon 🏆 AO runner up🏅 she is definitely top 3 and can become no. 1 if she can keep this level for the rest of this year. She is so resilient. With a bit more flavors in her game plan nobody can come near her in the future. I think I have become her supporter now 😊
