I recognized several of the mountains and ridgelines in the first few seconds. Very impressive work! I spent about 2400 hours flying around those mountains and ridgelines. In a Kiowa Warrior. Strangely absent, ED.

Good news for you! Polychop's been working on the Kiowa for a little while now. Here's hoping it drops in 2024. It would be great to hear from real pilots who can fly in the same places they got to operate in real life. Can't think of a better review than that.

New logistics is the number one thing I'm looking forward to in DCS, that and decent infantry with ATGM's if it's on the list.
@@cromwellthesynth I actually got to use a real C130-H simulator. Climbing a 12 foot stair case to enter it is when the excitement started. Taking off, traffic pattern and Landing was amazing. The flight engineer asked if I was a pilot. After stating most people bounce it and yours was near textbook.

spent years getting rides in them in iraq and afghanistan. that ramp look too clean brother lol. i was a JTAC and get frustrated with the robotic check ins

I have to say; this looks technically next level. This is the best looking map in terrms of textures and colour I have seen from the ED side. Impressive! Hope more care is taken for optimazation than the Marianas. Look forward to hearing what people say when it comes out.

CH-47 'Tricky' casevac missions out of Sangin. Or Pedro with the UH-60 mod. AH-1, UH-1Y development is now a must with this map.

As someone who spent a significant portion of their operational career flying in this theatre, I am so grateful this is coming out. It's incredible how close some of the terrain relief and detail is to exactly what is forever imprinted in my memory. Can't wait for the northern half of the country to follow. Hoping that Tarin Kowt, Bastion et al are modelled as dirt strips!

As an Afghan guy, I can say it'll be freaking good but I hope tk see also places like bamyan and I hope we'll see all the regions of Afghanistan from full desert of Kandahar to the mountains of Badakhshan !

Despite the disclaimers on the footage, that was truly awesome to see. Guys at DCS are thankfully not just into game/SIM play, they are into realism. Love it.
I spent several years total in Afghanistan, starting in 2001 with A-10's. Seeing some of this video took me back to that place, and stirred my feelings a bit. Beautiful work gentlemen, keep at it!

Thank you ED for bringing this out! As players we have been waiting so long for this - it will enable us to recreate so many t historically aspects of ground and air warfare. If you keep this up to date and continue investing in it, I think this will be the most used map for all modern fighters and helis. This country has seen so much combat in the last century like no other country in the world. Looking at the size of the map I think it is a fair option (not a must!) to be able to split it up when I only want a smaller part of it. I personally prefer-ordered the entire map right away! Can’t wait for it!

It is imperative to redo the Caucasus map with all the new technologies that you have developed (see the future ones). Caucasus is the historic map of DCS but also the most played map (by far). The one where there are almost all the tutorials. Do it again with Crimea even if it means charging €70 for it

For those that have not already read the books from Ed Macy (UK Apache pilot), they are a great read and take place in the Helmand province (location of the initial early access release).
Thanks for the tip! I read Apaches over Libya thanks to Eagle Dynamics and the release of the Apache, I remember a snippet from the book was posted by ED before the Apache release, superb book and well worth reading! I'll get to reading these ones as well!

Crazy... When I was in Afghanistan I couldn't wait to leave it. Now I can't wait for a map of it to come out.
Been flying this sim since the days of Lock on Modern Air Combat. The progress of this sim since 2018 is impressive for what is such a small company in real terms. They continue to ramp up the content and quality every year it seems and cannot wait to see what level we have in the next few years. Keep on the path ED, loving this sim.
I jumped on just before Lock-On dropped when I found a Flanker 2.5 CD in the bin at Walmart and grabbed it because it looked cool. A little while later, Lock-On came out and I immediately grabbed it and was blown away at how much stuff there was to fly. Planes like the Su-25 that I'd only ever heard about watching Wings as a kid, the A-10 was a fun experience. I can still remember sitting on my friend's couch on a laptop just scrolling through the development pictures from the new Mi-24 model that at the time was mind blowingly detailed. The textures looked so crisp and the model was so much more detailed than anything I had seen before. It's wild to think back to that and then go in game and see how the current Mi-24 (spent a lot of time staring at that new 3D model working on skins) was so much more detailed than the old one that I thought looked incredible at the time. Fast forward to the Apache, and my mind couldn't have even fathomed that level of detail back when Lock-On had just come out. I think the number of 3D bolts and rivets alone on that thing would have melted down my high school computer.

Question: If a server is running the Afghanistan map, would a player who only owns one portion of it be able to play that server (after the other parts get fully added)? How would the compatibility work between players who see more or less detail than the other? I.e. if a building isn't modeled for the player without the full map, would their bombs be blocked or clip through..
There will be compatibility between all purchase options for multiplayer. You can see a similar case with the Normandy 2 Upgrade.

The Southwest portion of the map including the Helmand Province was an incredibly active region of the map. 0:07 shows such a beautiful river! Looks like ED learned a lot from the development of Marianas. The photorealism of the terrain textures is also really next level. Whereas all previous terrains look like generated textures based on the real thing, Afghanistan looks like it uses satellite imagery as its basis.
As much as the community will love this map, I'm NEVER going back. Looks great ED, well done! too soon for me though. fly safe everyone
This is what it's all about! I won't be buying until the air to ground experience is better regarding the ai targeting & threat reaction etc but it's an awesome addition and I look forward to it in future :)

Looking outstanding. Leaps and bounds. Though, I'd say I'm surprised by a lack of Kiowa Warrior shots considering how prolific and lauded it was in the theatre. Same goes for the Gazelle. Hope a future release trailer does them justice. I'm seeing a lot of that Abrams SEPv3.... and lot of potential for 'Combined Arms 2.0' in this theatre. WW2 stuff needs more attention: -FW190 A8 needs a variant with the BMW 801TU, and a number of bugs need fixing; - WW2 Assets needs more AI planes such as B-24, P-38, BF110, BF109 G; - Tempest V high fidelity module; - Map of Germany and the Eastern front.
Can only hope for more WW2 stuff, I think they are heading to the pacific first but the Yak 9 is coming soon also

They need Cobras. It felt so 'Nam when I was in Bagram in '04 and '05 seeing Huey's and Cobras flying around. The Apache's were kinda hidden away so I rarely got to see them. Oh, and they also need Prowlers, which was the reason I was there. Go Navy!

It is an option if you want are on a budget or are interested in just a particular region. You can purchase the entire map in the same way as all other maps. It's just an option. -Wags

I would really love some helo missions where you need to pick up/ drop off/ resupply troops under fire. Like a whole campaign. That kind of stuff really gets me fired up!
