Linux Mint and Manjaro are two Linux distros that couldn’t be further apart from each other. While Mint is known for its superior stability and usability, Manjaro is known for its bleeding edge nature. While one offers undeniable solidity, the other offers unmatched versatility. And the differences go on and on.
But at the same time, there are some similarities here as well. Now these might surprise you. Both Mint and Manjaro are extremely popular and have their respective die hard followers. They both provide industry leading software availability. They both are very easy to use and they both provide enjoyable computing experiences. In fact, Linux Mint and Manjaro are two of the best Linux distros of all time.
But the real question here is how do they compare against each other? Which among them is the best, which among these is more suitable for you.
To answer these I installed both Mint and Manjaro on the same machine, and I have been using them both as my daily drivers, using the same set of software on both the distros. And what I found out was quite surprising. These two systems have a personality of their own and they are quite opposite in nature. You can use and love one, any one, but not both.
So let’s jump right in and take a deeper look at these two fantastic Linux distros and see which one comes out on top. One of these two might just as well end up being your next daily driver.
Excellent review. Manjaro is leading edge and exciting. Mint is elegant, more stable and dependable, while being pretty current. I have left exciting and leading edge (which is fun) and opted for elegant, stable and dependable. Like you said, both are great distros, just decide what do you want? New Linux users ONLY CHOICE is LINUX MINT - Cinnamon!
GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for that.
Do you have a Mageia Vs OpenMandriva? This two are Mandrake/Mandriva descendance and mageia is the only one that keeps the original mandrake/mandriva control center and still uses the drake commands and urpmi.
Is proton tricks available on Mint? That is very important for gaming
Good information👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love both Mint and Manjaro! I personally use Manjaro, but still a big fan of Mint too.
You are presenting this like we on Mint can't install Flathub, Github or autoupdate apps.
Hey man! Great video and I've been watching you since covid. My suggestion is to use other music for every video so it doesn't sound repetitive. Otherwise great job!
I used Mint for months, but Cinnamon DE never sit well with me, and I was annoyed by many bugs that were just there, not being fixed, because packages were frozen and not updated. On rolling releases, bugs are also present but are way quicker fixed. Anyway, I moved to Manjaro (8 years ago) and I'm still using it. Moreover, I am still using the same OS install, which shows how stable Manjaro could be in right hands. Basically, Manjaro could break, but there are easy ways to fix it. First, have backups. Second, know how to use manjaro-chroot and restore backups. Third, pay attention to Manjaro forum announcements. Most fixes and issues are listed there.
I've been doing things like that for YEARS now... and have up to 4 distros at a time on my machine at once pretty much ALL the time. REcently- I've gone BTRFS and I have Spiral Gnome on one drive and CACHY with kde6 on the other!!! Works GREAT.... and I'm learning to use Gnome which I've severly hated for years!!
that's grear. me i have three native systems and three virtual machines. And is so fantastic.
I"m considering your course. BUT- I got mashed between 2 trucks in 99 and since that accident-- I don't "retain" stuff like I use to. Before I could watch something ONCE and learn it-- now I can't.. and unrelated combos of letter and "code" like things--- just don't stick in my mind like they use to... so I'm wondering if I should or not. NOTHING against you or your course-- which I'm sure is GREAT--- just I don't know if I can retain it well enough to use it or not. I understand what you're telling me-- but 20 minutes later- I can't recall a lot of it (the technical stuff that is)..
MINT's user interface first attracted me towards linux system then playing with linux going on and on! 😺 but sadly i could not able to boot LMDE in my machine 😥
What I miss about Mint - and perhaps the main reason I don't use it - is the lack of a decent built-in desktop search. I know: Some will say that it's all a question of better organization, and that's partly true. But on a heavily used desktop machine, there are _so_ many files from so many episodes in the user's life and interests. I find it virtually impossible to organize things completely and decently enough. So I need a decent, integrated, index-based desktop search. Both Gnome and KDE have this. What is the problem for the Cinnamon desktop?
Agree
Yea true but give a try to ulauncher
Yea true but use Ulauncher instead it's like spotlight for macOS
If I'm going to install Manjaro, I'd simply install Arch and have, in fact, done just that. Mint LMDE by contrast, I feel, is an improvement on core Debian. As for the AUR, it should be used with extreme care.
Thanks for the video. As an ordinary home user, I choose Linux Mint. If IT was my profession, I would use something like Manjaro or Fedora.
Manjaro is only bleeding edge if you aren't on STABLE stream. The stable stream is very stable. When things break in Manjaro, THAT IS THE UNSTABLE AND TESTING branch. So tired of this.
Wait isn't manjaro bad, with crazy devs?
@iraqinationalist7778 The company isn't to be trusted honestly, they have forgotten to update SSL certificates 4 times.
I installed Manjaro with KDE and it's a black screen. It's not stable when the entire desktop environment doesn't even work out of the box 😂
DID Manjaro get their "ISSUES" fixed? About a year ago- they started having a LOT of problems in their distro- and I couldn't get a lot of it to work correctly- and OTHERS on here LeFT Manjaro because of it- adn ONE reviewer had arguements with them and they refused to help--- HAVE THEY FIXED all that???
Manjaro has forgotten to update its SSL certificates 4 times and i would avoid them for that alone.
I ditched out after the third time, landed on openSUSE Tumbleweed, been happy there since.
Give a try to Manjaro unstable branch (stable as pure arch). You will have up to date OS.
Please use new manjaro logo in new content. The one you used is very old logo design. Thanks for the video
How long have you been using Manjaro?
Over ten years
@@hoshi411 as soon as he was born, yes.
which screen recorder you using ?
Simplescreenrecorder bro
Manjaro > all and with time people will understand it
arch distro holding back packages is a bad recipe. if you don't want to use vanilla arch, i can understand but at this point, just use something like endeavour. time only tells me i hate it more. manjaro devs just broke mesa for apple silicon and it's not the first time they break something that is not theirs.
My Favourite Arch Based distro are: 1. Endeavour OS 2. Manjaro OS 3. Vanilla Arch with GNOME 4. CachyOS (Try It) 😊
Nothing can beat Arch Linux, once u become comfortable with it. there's no way to look back. It's supreme Distro.
Exactly 💯
Not really, it's unstable as hell and requires constant maintenance. Arch is just a meme that in reality is nothing but a problematic waste of time.
@@huntermathias5353 not if you know what you're doing and take the time to secure it.
This video features Mint and Manjaro. Please show your superiority on Arch videos not here 🙏
So true. I can't even install inxi on debian based os without having to add custom repo lol idk if things have changed now😊
I think in software availability department Manjaro and Mint should not have been marked equally. Software availability on Manjaro is significantly better. There's no comparison in this department
16:28 manjarno for people who want excitement Also manjarno: breaks after the first upgrade on a fresh install, manjarno be like: "was that enough excitement for ya' ? I got some more in my pockets"
Install stable branch next time
More or less all linux distros are same. Availability of the lastest software is not any distinguishable feature anymore since the arrival of flatpak and snap package solutions. Its a bit boring to watch comparisons on two different bases of distros along with *brief* introduction to the Linux distro itself. Rather than focusing on how to transition from windows/macos to Linux mostly people focus on making distro review videos. Findings out what a general average computer users (for like home users, students on science ,data engineering and business statistical analyst ) do on windows and trying to make videos on how they can achieve that level of productivity,to some extent, should be the content direction for the linux KZheadrs in my opinion. Although it's not totally impossible to search for videos and readings reddit or blog post for doing usual things (other than coding and customizing stuffs), make dedicated videos on such tasks or software would be nicer. I mean how you would gonna introduce some different operating system to the new comers if they dont have the similar level of productivity in terms of software availability and usability on Linux.
i hate snaps and ubuntu so much, but it's still not enough of a reason for me to choose manjaro over ubuntu if i had to. that's how bad manjaro is.
It's sad to think that there will never be one distro that everyone agrees on
That's the beauty of Linux though
@@IOTWVUVWTOI Kind of yes, kind of no... If there is no consensus, then game devs and companies cannot streamline their tech for Linux compatibility. In my opinion, i think everyone should agree on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE)... It's almost irrationally stable, because it's Debian-based, has a 2 year long update cycle, precisely to ensure stability... This works great, for developers, as they don't have to constantly worry about adapting to new tech, and Debian takes things slow and steady... meaning it's the easiest Linux distro to make mainstream! And on top of that, its cinnamon desktop makes sure it's an easy transition from Windows, so windows users aren't too scared of swapping over! :) So yeah, i vote LMDE... But nobody agrees with me, so i guess we stay stuck on this phase where Linux struggles to get game-support. : / But sure, the large variety of distros make it so that there's competition, meaning a few of those distros will be more efficient and versatile than other distros, like Debian... Whereas other distros sort of serve as a beta-test for new Linux features, like Arch... This is great for Linux evolution, but bad for game-support, as each linux system is too difference from each other for any ONE system to become mainstream! : / The reason why Windows has such prevalent support, is because there's at most, only 2 versions of windows active at a time, the third oldest ceases to get support from microsoft... It's easier to make sure games are compatible with 1-2 OS's from microsoft, rather than like 50 OS's from Linux, lol. Hence why it's good AND bad... Competition is good, but market saturation is bad... In all honesty, we need slightly fewer distros, atm. :P
No need installaatio 2 linux just installaatio themes another enviroment with themes. Yes distro is theme
If I install Linux Mint themes on Manjaro, it won't make it Linux Mint. These distros are fundamentally very different and any theme or DE on top of that is irrelevant.
Endeavour os > manJaro
Endeavor is upstream arch, manjaro is down stream and has several branches testing , unstable and stable, making it significantly more stable and user friendly than endeavor
@@hoshi411 my personal preference
Manjaro big team and constant dev > Mint small team and almost no significant innovation for OVER FIVE YEARS. Manjaro big living community > Mint community basically dead Manjaro gets airtime in podcasts > Mint nobody talks about it anymore for like 8 years Manjaro has projects like orange pie and great for gaming > mint , nothing Manjaro , install what you need > Mint , break your system trying to add ppa or some random junk to get basic stuff That's like 5 more points for manjaro!
You're been living under a rock, because Mint has been blowing up for, at least the last week, lol.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
