This album will go down as one the most underappreciated albums in the band's discography and of the 2010s. I can't wait to see the retrospective ratings for this album in 10 years.
ya know people will look back at this and recognize it as a significant artistic achievement.
Yep! (Also Third is a great album) This seems to be the trend with polarizing albums - ones that really push things forward. The harmony on this album is relatively atypical and founded on weak (harmonically speaking) chord changes, so it's filled with a lot of low-key delights. You can almost hear the "Ding!" of the elevator as you arrive at the lounge floor on this track. Genius.

I also sing about the “martini police” on this song, and there was just something about that melody with those words that amused me; I’ve begun to wonder if that’s the right name for the band that has the residency in the night club in the song. I came from twitter cuz I saw a lot of people were saying this album sucks and I find this beautiful piece of art and I'm like ??? this songs have some jazz vibes and a bit of a 70's atmosphere and the vocals are on point I just don't see what is it that people don't like about it.
I'm a bit late, but the thing is - most people who were fans of Arctic Monkeys originally fell in love with them for their fast paced songs, guitar riffs, drums and Alex' relatable lyrics. Then a lot of the fans who came with AM fell in love with the sexy, kinda predictable, but incredibly catchy and cool sounding riff based songs about lust, love .. - still, very relatable things. All of these people had to wait 5 years for the new album, and for some it was exciting, because they hoped AM would go back to their fast paced roots, for some because they expected more of the AM sounds. Nobody, or not many people expected a jazz/space/psychadelic keys based album with such different (yet IMO incredibly interesting) themes and weird song structures... Because of that, many people didn't give this much chance and were incredibly dissapointed. I personally think it's beautiful, and when I first heard the jazzy chords of this song I couldn't stop myself from grinning madly and thinking 'shit, they've done it again'. But the music is definitely not for everyone..and sadly some people just can't accept that 'I don't like it/it's not my type of thing doesn't equal 'IT SUCKS ASS'
So far the best album of 2018.
this is so accurate. I discovered them with AM in 2012, and have been waiting six long years for this album. I'm a huge rock fan, so I was pretty disappointed when this first came out. I didn't think it was bad, per se, it was just not what I was into. Now, four months later, I love this album. It's unapologetic, and a slap in the face to fans' expectations, and I deeply respect that. Who would the Arctic Monkeys be if they didn't pursue originality over money? ......that said, I STILL think this album is objectively their worst. Their other albums' lyrics were more brilliant, soulful tongue twisters, whereas this one falls into the unfortunate issue of being interesting in 2018. Lyrics about tech are going to age poorly. The soundscape is a little on the boring side; I don't think Alex has come into his own on the piano, but there's a promise that makes me excited for the next album. All together, you can also tell the other band members weren't completely sure what to make of it (this also reflects in interviews), and so it overall feels like Turner's love letter rather than an Arctic Monkeys album. I'm calling it now that this album will be a bit like Humbug: controversial, but an undeniable predecessor to the next game-changing sound they make.
Now you know don't believe everything thats on the interwebz
I found them through AM and I liked this album, mostly cause I'm down for anything
This album is honestly great, I know it's a bit different but come on guys you can't seriously expect every album to be the same.
Ranooyful i loved the album because it's different, sure i also liked the others ones but i was getting kinda bored, this is very refreshing for me
it's great, I hate how everyone expected this to be like AM, what's the use of making NEW music if it's just gonna sound like OLD music, yknow?
The good thing is they don't sell out, I mean if they do, they do it in a good way. Glad they didn't use today's generic pop beats or do collaboration with rappers with weird names, lmfao..
oh god yeah that was a great prank
It sound more like Humbug than AM imo
1:58-2:14 in my opinion is the best part of this song. A very stripped down and isolated moment, made intimate with Alex's lyrics and carried through with Matt's bass drum. Almost 2 years later, I still come back to this song as the most brilliant moment of the album. It deserves to be blasted with the bass all the way up.
Oe te banco. Cuando recién leí esa parte de la letra por primera vez me quedé estúpido. Elegante Alex

The lyrics in this one are weirdly brilliant. Alex really wanted to say a lot in this album. Love the catchy melodies in the chorus and Alex's more frequent use of his falsetto. Feel like this album is a grower.
Such an elegant song. From the panned, analogue sounds, passing through the slow, sexy rhythm, arriving to the always magnificent lyrics from Alex Turner, that in a prosaic way shares a complex mix of feelings... I like where these Monkeys are going and I wanna be there too.

This doesn't sound all that dissimilar from Alex's solo stuff he did on Submarine. The guy loves channelling music from every decade except the current one. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Kareem S This was debunked by Alex himself. He never had intentions of releasing a solo album
this song is underrated as hell, this is my favorite song. i don't understand how people don't like this.
i tought same
I was wondering why many am songs were full of references about stars and space (even astrophysics notions, like in this case) and then I found out that Alex's father was a physics teacher. This makes sense.
If this planet is worth anything (and the people on it) Alex Turner will be remembered as the greatest writer of his generation and many generations to come
You ever read a book?
Josef K A book? what’s that? Hehe. But seriously now, don’t patronize me or Alex Turner’s ability ever again.
Josef K is your username a Kafka reference?
There are better songwriters than Turner, he's overrated, i like him still, but overrated
He's definitely great at it, but he's certainly not the greatest.
This album gets better each time i listen to it.
Easily in my top 10 Arctic Monkeys songs.
this is like fine wine, it gets better with age
facts
It certainly does
I've been listening this over and over. Fantastic album. Anyone think the same?
El inglés de Colomba Silva apesta siiii
Hell yeah It grows on you
Hell yes.
It had to grow on me but now I love it. Star Treatment and Golden Trunks are my faves.
Before I sleep... I play it.
A Lana Del Rey and Alex Turner collaboration would be the height of dreamy retro music that I wish would happen
Abigail YES! I’ve wanted them to collaborate together for so long😍
their career trajectories are pretty similar if you think about it. Born to Die and AM were their commercial albums, but they both went retro and down to earth with Norman Fucking Rockwell and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino
YES. PLEASE.
Have you heard Alexandra Saviour? She is what the collaboration would sound like.
i dont think my bisexual heart could manage 👉🏽👈🏽😳
