  • This album will go down as one the most underappreciated albums in the band's discography and of the 2010s. I can't wait to see the retrospective ratings for this album in 10 years.

    • Yep! (Also Third is a great album) This seems to be the trend with polarizing albums - ones that really push things forward. The harmony on this album is relatively atypical and founded on weak (harmonically speaking) chord changes, so it's filled with a lot of low-key delights. You can almost hear the "Ding!" of the elevator as you arrive at the lounge floor on this track. Genius.

  • This album is a fucking masterpiece. It makes me feel forgotten, floating deep in outer space. The lyrics are unlike anything I've ever seen before, all the experimentation throughout the music, it's just hard to explain how this makes me feel. It's beutiful in a new way.

  • [Verse 1] I just wanted to be one of The Strokes Now look at the mess you made me make Hitchhiking with a monogrammed suitcase Miles away from any half-useful imaginary highway I'm a big name in deep space Ask your mates but golden boy's in bad shape I found out the hard way that here ain't no place for dolls like you and me Everybody's on a barge floating down the endless stream of great TV 1984, 2019 [Pre-Chorus 1] Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s Rocket-ship grease down the cracks of my knuckles Karate bandana Warp speed chic Hair down to there Impressive moustache Love came in a bottle with a twist off cap Let's all have a swig and do a hot lap [Chorus] So who you gonna call? The martini police? Baby that isn't how they look tonight, oh no It took the light forever to get to your eyes [Verse 2] I just wanted to be one of those ghosts you thought that You could forget and then I haunt you via the rear view mirror on a long drive from the back seat But it's alright cause you love me And you recognise that it's ain't how it should be Your eyes are heavy and the weather's getting ugly so pull over I know the place Don't you know an apparition is a cheap date? What exactly is it you've been drinking these days? Jukebox in the corner Long hot summer They've got a film up on the wall and it's dark enough to dance What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner? [Pre-Chorus 2] Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s Back down to earth with a lounge singer shimmer Elevator down to my make believe residency From the honeymoon suite Two shows a day, four nights a week Easy money [Chorus] So who you gonna call? The martini police? So who you gonna call? The martini police? Baby that isn't how they look tonight It took the light absolutely forever to get to your eyes [Outro] And as we gaze skyward, ain't it dark early? It's the star treatment And as we gaze skyward, ain't it dark early? It's the star treatment It's the star treatment The star treatment

  • When I heard this song live, it was in a middle of this summer, the evening was really hot and it started raining. The crowd was so huge, that only the upper part of my body was wet and from waist down I was completely dry. I remember smoking a cigaret with wet fingers and water dripping down from my hair and the sky was grey a this song was this fantastic background to my small world at the moment. Got halfway to the song and it was dragging on too long so I skipped it. This happened with EVERY SINGLE TRACK on this album except four out of five and it upsets me because I wanted to like it! I really did! I love Alex and the arctic monkeys so much but it just... sucks. It’s not FWN, certainly isn’t humbug or suck it and see. Definitely isn’t AM and it’s just not something I’m into. @user-vp1ql4hv5b@user-vp1ql4hv5b6 жыл бұрын
    • I'm a bit late, but the thing is - most people who were fans of Arctic Monkeys originally fell in love with them for their fast paced songs, guitar riffs, drums and Alex' relatable lyrics. Then a lot of the fans who came with AM fell in love with the sexy, kinda predictable, but incredibly catchy and cool sounding riff based songs about lust, love .. - still, very relatable things. All of these people had to wait 5 years for the new album, and for some it was exciting, because they hoped AM would go back to their fast paced roots, for some because they expected more of the AM sounds. Nobody, or not many people expected a jazz/space/psychadelic keys based album with such different (yet IMO incredibly interesting) themes and weird song structures... Because of that, many people didn't give this much chance and were incredibly dissapointed. I personally think it's beautiful, and when I first heard the jazzy chords of this song I couldn't stop myself from grinning madly and thinking 'shit, they've done it again'. But the music is definitely not for everyone..and sadly some people just can't accept that 'I don't like it/it's not my type of thing doesn't equal 'IT SUCKS ASS'

      @fxlett3613@fxlett36135 жыл бұрын
    • this is so accurate. I discovered them with AM in 2012, and have been waiting six long years for this album. I'm a huge rock fan, so I was pretty disappointed when this first came out. I didn't think it was bad, per se, it was just not what I was into. Now, four months later, I love this album. It's unapologetic, and a slap in the face to fans' expectations, and I deeply respect that. Who would the Arctic Monkeys be if they didn't pursue originality over money? ......that said, I STILL think this album is objectively their worst. Their other albums' lyrics were more brilliant, soulful tongue twisters, whereas this one falls into the unfortunate issue of being interesting in 2018. Lyrics about tech are going to age poorly. The soundscape is a little on the boring side; I don't think Alex has come into his own on the piano, but there's a promise that makes me excited for the next album. All together, you can also tell the other band members weren't completely sure what to make of it (this also reflects in interviews), and so it overall feels like Turner's love letter rather than an Arctic Monkeys album. I'm calling it now that this album will be a bit like Humbug: controversial, but an undeniable predecessor to the next game-changing sound they make.

Almost 2 years later, I still come back to this song as the most brilliant moment of the album. It deserves to be blasted with the bass all the way up.

It’s a great representation of how we all change for the good and the bad. I turn these songs all the way up because that’s how it should be heard. I just love this band so much and I wanted to make an appreciation post, hope everybody is having a good day today. • I believe this is the best song of the 2010s, honestly. This album is insane. It is definitely AM's best album. Try to sing this song along with lyrics and see how fucking difficult it is technically to keep that kind of dreamy pace halfway between whispered and screamed.

    • Nathan Wright I get why everyone is saying that but don’t forget that these songs were originally for a solo album🤷🏻‍♂️ But im glad that at least they wrote the album with him and it’s under Arctic Monkeys

      @kay9672@kay96726 жыл бұрын
    • Kareem S No. They shouldn't have named this album under Arctic Monkeys name and ruined the reputation of the band.

      @nathanwright1201@nathanwright12016 жыл бұрын
    • Nathan Wright It didn’t ruin the reputation, it’s just very different and the style they went for is an acquired taste. You can never please everyone
