Rwanda is famous for its tall volcanoes, vast mountains, and deep jungles. But this wild terrain poses a problem for speedy delivery of medical supplies to remote hospitals that need them. Enter Zipline, a drone delivery company with a fleet of drones that are revolutionizing medical requests in Rwanda.
Zipline's goal is to be able to service all 500 health facilities in Rwanda using its two distribution centers. Check out this episode of Field Trip to hear from Zipline General Manager Joseph Ndagijimana and find out more about how the drone delivery company is revolutionizing medical supply delivery in Rwanda.

  • This is one of the places you would least expect to see this technology, but it one of the places that can benefit from it the most.

    • in other nations like the US or UK there is to much air traffic, but in Rwanda its actually genius, at least until they can build enough infrastructure to make the drones obsolete. (though who knows when or if that will ever happen)

(idk much about the specifics, but it was in Wisconsin, I just remember the one time where he called me and asked if I wanted something to eat since he was called back and would be home soon, I had asked what happened and he said the person died, I should also note this was like 2 years ago not 10 or 20)

  • If every destination had an anemometer linked to the drones, then every drop can land in exactly the same spot with precision having factored in wind speed, direction and drone velocity. I'd recommend that only if possible cargos are fragile, needing a soft landing cushion. But otherwise, Damn this is awesome! I love it!!

    @727Phoenix@727Phoenix4 жыл бұрын
    • The drone knows exactly what the wind is doing by comparing it's ground speed with its airspeed and it's track Vs. Heading. Apparently it takes the wind into account when it drops it payload to try and hit the same spot each time.

Often times it can be all kinds of different mixes of these models, but that's a rough idea that generally applies.
