  • My issue with the latest trends in GMT is most of them coming out as diver gmts. i feel like im speaking for most people but correct me if im wrong, most people are traveling for family visits, business, and pleasure. Within these categories, a diver gmt doesnt work for business for obvious reasons and most people wouldnt be diving when visiting family, and would be spending most of their pleasure trips sightseeing. This is to say that most people (mostly speaking about myself), would prefer a more classical / casual looking watch or maybe even something that can be dressed up.

    @andreraffla5555@andreraffla555524 күн бұрын
    • Nah, it's just you. A dive-style case has always been the obvious choice for GMTs for practical reasons - all you need to do is change the markings on the bezel from 60 min. to 24h. It's not a "latest trend". Ever seen a GMT Master? Even if you do change the style, a GMT will never be dressy because it always needs a bezel that will make it look sportier, plus GMT movements are on the thicker side. As for when a dive watch is "appropriate", let's start with the obvious fact that no one has been using them as a primary dive timing device in the last 30-40 years. We have dive computers and bottom timers for that. We wear dive watches because we like the style and because they're practical (useful elapsed time function, water resistance, durability). I don't know why you're saying they're not a good holiday watch when they're really prerfect for that. Just because you only do sightseeing, doesn't mean other people don't get in the ocean on holiday (like, literally THE most popular holiday activity). Visitng family? Casual enough for a sports watch. Business travel? I and most people have no issues wearing a diver or sports watch in general in a business setting - anything less than full black tie event is fair game.

    • @@bananowyjestemsobie that's interesting. I might have over estimated the number of people agreeing with me. Some people do (I'm assuming the 4 people that liked my original comment agree), but I'm glad to learn there are others that this watch type caters to. As for vacation destination, I really do disagree and I'm not talking about my own experience only. A quick Google search to the most popular vacation destinations, and they are almost all in Europe famous for sightseeing. Places like Britain, Italy and turkey aren't exactly known for their beaches. And even places that are known for their beaches tend to have vacationers spending most of their time sight seeing still. You also kind of contradicted yourself saying that most people don't mind wearing a dive watch in a professional setting but a GMT is too thick to be worn as a dive watch 😂. I'll argue if you think most people don't mind wearing a dive watch, even more don't think twice about thickness. As for the style of dive watches, you're 100% correct in saying I don't like it. I have a personal bias against it and I'm more than happy to admit it. I prefer gmts like the Seiko sharp edge, Longines Zulu time, a lot of the Grand Seiko gmts, and even something like the new parmigiani tonda GMT over the black Bay gmts, GMT masters and the watch shown in this video.

    • @@andreraffla5555 Fully agree. I'd love to see more non-diver GMTs too. More versatile for real life while also avoiding the "look at me I'm a tool" vibe of so many diver-style watches with loud bezels.

  • I think the thing we all want is their Ocean Star GMT’s with a smaller case size… the Tributes and the Shark Teeth just don’t quite scratch that itch.

    @late_blue@late_blue25 күн бұрын
    • Said this before, say it again: the watch you (and all reasonable people) want would have competed against Longines' gmt, and less than half the price. Mido's larger gmt came first to test the waters, so to speak. Then Swatch favored Longines at the expense of Mido for a smaller (and pricier) watch (spirit zulu time).

That said, there’s a jeweler near me carrying Mido, they have upped their game, they offer some nice watches. This is a good edition, it’ll sell well.

  • The Ocean Star "Sharktooth" is nice, but I think the Ocean Star GMT Black ( Ref: M0266291105101) is the best dial color option. Right now, my favorite GMT watch that I want to get (other than the Rolex Pepsi) is the Longines Spirit Zulu (in black with blue gmt hand). That's my "almost grail" watch right now, but that MIDO would be a good every day that would get alot of use. Thanks Teddy!
