  • This just proves to me that Lin, is not just a great performer and songwriter, but he is also a very good Director just watching him talk about all the little details that he put in the film. Things that the audience would never know just shows you how much research he does and not only that but how he would talk about how he used the camera. How he knew how important it was to show how many people are there and how Jon would want everyone involved.

Andrew is a better actor and musician and musical performer than I would ever have Imagined. He was wonderful and Miranda's direction was genius. These two together have made a superb production and have brought Johnathan Larson alive to me. I will now see Rent for the first time. Miranda and Garfield have made Larson alive to me. • This movie has taken over my household. Everyone singing the songs. Demands to rewatch the movie again and again. We're all in the car..."Put the soundtrack on, Dad!" The film more than delivered on the great source material - it was an absolute transcendent force of nature. I can't get past it. And I truly hope these two guys stay friends and collaborators. This seems like a very good working & personal relationship that has plenty of mileage left.

  • Lin actually makes a good stage-to-movie-musical director just because he knows his audience and he knows the actors he should get involved. Even In The Heights, which he didn't direct but I think he was still heavily involved in the creative prodcess and a producer, features more Broadway actors than many movie musicals before. And to have these stage actors and stage icons in this movie instead of the big, bankable Hollywood stars feels very refreshing

I also like that he brought Renée and Phillipa to the movie. Welp, time to watch some happy movies to compensate for the unexplained melancholia that I felt.
