It's Hanging Off Their Wing! | Emergency Slide Falls Off Delta 767 While Airborne at JFK

An emergency evacuation slide fell from an airborne Delta 767 shortly after departing JFK. Crew also reported vibrations and banging during flight. After returning to JFK, emergency crews and operations vehicles reported a panel hanging from the 767's right wing.

Yeah we are getting some vibrations and a loud banging noise and we are bit tilting to the left and everything is on fire and the right half of the plane just fell off.. but we are not declaring an emergency at this point..*sips tea*

Great job getting initial talk of the issue -- other channel I saw post that missed that segment. Also got lot of extra with United wheel issue compared to other channels -- tis great to get more of the communication! Second slide issue this month for Delta. The other slide hit a catering truck while at the gate iirc.
Appreciate that! Takes a bit longer but i definitely try to dig around for as much audio related to the incidents.
I heard the slide washed near the home of one of the lawyers suing Boeing for safety issues. I kid you not.
I remember someone telling on another channel that one of these slides costs around 250,000$... That's going to be a hefty bill to replace, no worries they will add it up to your next airplane ticket...

I always found it strange that 200+ million dollar airliners don't have cameras, Being able to see the airplane would have been helpful in a lot of these situations.
New 767 217 million, and pilots currently look at gauges, radar screens charts and anything that will help them operate the plane safely.
Agree. How or where do you mean camera? For example, mounted on the upper tail facing forward to give view of almost all of the upper surface of the plane? I’ve seen videos of or from them there so passengers could see the plane and some distance ahead of it. Or some other camera placement? Thanks.
@@richardjohnson455 I would think everywhere it would help. Top tail, maybe on the winglets looking back towards side fuselage, Inside the gear bays. outside cockpit looking back at the engines. Lots of times you hear about tires failing on takeoff, and brakes overheating on landings. Sometimes they have to do a fly-by to assess if gear is down. Camera in the bay looking down would be helpful. They're so cheap and easy to dial up to take a look if there is a problem. I even wonder if they have something that looks into the cabin. Many instances of unruly passengers and fights in the passenger areas. would be nice to see details and asses situation. My guess it's a cost thing and because its not mandated they don't do it. The famous 737 max situation where the AOA sensor discrepancy indicator in the cockpit was an "option" you had to purchase. Crazy.

That's a 33+ years old aircraft. Mankind has recently had some mobile phones that exploded in their pockets, yet we expect a plane built in the '90 to last forever....
An airplane has regular maintanance work done. Even "old" planes are not really old.
@@lilg2300 Some conditions need to be met for that to be the case. To my knowledge, the airlines should be willing to pay for a revamp before the final life cycle. Or at least it should be true that every mechanic (airline & manufacturer) did an impeccable job + all instances where the airframe has been exposed to forces beyond it's limitations have been properly declared and worked through.

wow, Boeing just hasn't had a break...
It's a plane they built 33 years ago. It's at the end of it's lifespan as a passenger carrying airframe. They might as well put it out to pasture. The cost to replace a deployed slide is in the 6 figure range.
That's what happens when shareholders are seen as far more important than passengers. The older I get the more I start to despise publicly held companies. Shareholders should have LITTLE say in how a company runs it's affairs... especially when it comes to public safety. However... this plane is old, and shit does happen
That aircraft left the Boeing factory long ago. This is a maintenance issue.
@rileysteve There are so many terrible videos out now that mix maintenance issues with actual Boeing quality issues. Not to defend Boeings problems... I won't, however blaming maintenance on the parent company for viewers is just idiotic... and the general public is too dumb now to understand the difference
