    • Yes absolutely. The hippo did not intend to hurt his caretaker. He came out of the house holding the giant branch as a shield to push the man away and then when he was on the ground the hippo got his face and said “Son, this doesn’t concern you; go away.” If the hippo wanted to hurt the man he could’ve bitten him easily but he didn’t. The second “charge” looked like a slow amble to make sure the man was leaving and to issue a final “I said what I said.” Wild hippos do attack and kill people When they feel threatened and their eyesight is not that good. But this hippo obviously had no intentions of hurting the man who took care of him. As you say he just wanted him to butt out of hippo business.

    • @marywenzel3199 as I said most people would still sh!t their pants, could have been worse if he got even a little bit defensive, honestly the scarier a creature is the more cocky they are about it, the more dangerous well... they can be cocky (or human) but usually the animals that are actually dangerous know their power, unless it's bears, or dolphins, those things are fuckijg crazy

    • Yep. Hippos aren't typically reserved like that. Especially when already provoked. It certainly wasn't playing around. But it also wasn't hellbent. Maybe the lighting changed his awareness...able to recognize the second 'attacker' wasn't in fact a second hippo...which it presumed in the darkened space...hence the initial bite. Plus once it grabbed ahold of the man, it certainly could tell he was dealing with something other than another hippo. Keeper got super lucky.

Now if it was an unprovoked attack, that would more than likely be different and the hippo would be endangered if euthanasia. Incidents like this are quite common though, as their keepers get into the mentality "this animal is my friend and won't hurt me, even in a full blown fight", so zoos do not allow human stupidity most time determine the life and death of one of their creatures. Phoenix zoo had a black Jaguar that killed multiple handlers, but it was found they poked him with sticks. He lived his life at the zoo despite that.

    • Yeap, i thought the same; seems to me, that moto-moto was more irritaded with his keeper than really agressive; 'cause if he was in death mode, that zookeeper wouldn't had a chance! The way moto-moto yeald at the keeper, when he getted out of the shelter, but did not really attack him, looks like he was screaming something like- get tha f**k out of here, human, this is none of your business!! Ok it was a bit scary, for us to watch, and guess, specially, for the keeper, but i really didn't saw a life menace here; a saw an irritaded animal and a death scared human. Everyone who treats animals knows that one day or another, they may be in a bad mood, but this don't need to be necessarily a menace to your life! I think the way this video was uploaded with this kind of legend just contributes for a histerical missunderstood about animal behavior!
