Giles Martin Served as Beatles' George Martin's Ears as a Teen
/ fallontonight
He looks and sounds a lot like his dad. It's like a younger version of George Martin. Just like George Harrison's son.
Rolando Mendoza like father like son
Truth has been spoken in your comment
I saw another video of his and kept thinking he sounded very similar to George Martin. I had no idea he was his son - so that explains it. lol
I agree Rolando Mendoza!
Rolando Mendoza, I thought the exact same thing as you.
Giles Martin sounds amazingly like his father, Jimmy takes the interview seriously and, being a musician, asks significant and astute questions that would interest people (apart from the harmless silliness with Drake). This is the closest I've seen to Jimmy imitating Johnny Carson or Jack Paar, and as much as it will probably be forgotten, I think it's one of his better interviews.
NewhamMatt Well said! I completely agree. This is my favourite interview I've seen Jimmy do by far. Wish he was like this more often.
It's great to see he's capable of this! Forming to the guest and being able to adapt from funny to serious when needed.
I disagree completely. This was an awful interview. "Your dad died, do you miss him?" Every comment is just as useless as the one before. I've got no problem with Jimmy, but he's flat out an awful interviewer.
NewhamMatt I agree this was Jimmys best interview. Much because of his amazing guest
Granted, that question was pointless but the rest of it wasn't too bad (for jimmy anyway...)
Thank God George Martin saw their charm and wit on the day they met, despite Harrison's dislike of his tie.
"Well, for a start, I don't like your tie."
It's incredible how much Giles is like his dad.... same mannerisms and his voice! Sounds and acts so much like his dad. What a great man Sir George Martin was.
Giles Martin’s remixes are amazing, and much needed
Absolutely superb they are!
The Beatles would say Paul would spend hours with samples from home splicing and looping with George Martin, so rare to have so many geniuses working together in one band. Amazing work they themselves would not be able to reproduce even if they wanted to.
Once I had a chat with Giles: a very nice and humble guy.
👌🇬🇧
The sound of seagulls during the intro of Tomorrow Never Knows (different album, I know. doesn't matter) is McCartney laughing. That shit is insane. The places they went to in their minds WITH their minds is unmatchable
Both him and his father will go down in history as great producers
Giles is the keeper and the future of the holy grail of music. He's 51 or 52 now. From Love Me Do in 1963 to The End in 1970, those tapes of those 240 or so of the world's greatest songbook in between are in his hands.
Wow - is that George ? He looks and sound exactly like his Dad .... incredible
About the same thing.
George Martins son is so like him
Always classy
Ordered a Vinyl version of Sgt. Peppers' Band of Lonely Hearts and received it in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to play it!!!
You haven't played it yet? BLASPHEMER! KILL! KILL!
I got the 2 disc set and it is absolutely fantastic! Very tastefully done, and remixed very nicely. I hope he will do this with ABBEY ROAD
i got the Deluxe box set and the double LP... the box kick asses!
Elaine R agreed. They should’ve done it for Revolver and Magical Mystery Tour as well but I understand why Sgt. Pepper would be the priority due to its popularity
And you felt it was necessary to info us? Clown. Just play it.
Sir George Martin, Legend and all round classy guy. This is the first interview I've seen with Giles Martin and he seemed very impressive, a chip off the old block.
I liked how they wrote that thumbnail, that was respectful
Wow this man is pure class
may men could take lessons from him
GILES STILL COOKING Revolver 2022 is the best I've ever been able to experience The Beatles in my lifetime. So grateful to Giles Martin, Peter Jackson, Jackson's team, and everyone else responsible for the restoration and preservation of these masterpieces.
i can't help but grin everytime I see jimmy's beard! 😆😆😆
Yeah, it's horrible.
Giles fixes the slow speed of “She’s Leaving Home.” Sounds perfect now. Well done. Side 1 of Pepper is the the best 20 minutes of music I’ve ever heard.
I’m going to go out on a limb now and just say that (Sir) Giles Martin will be knighted down the road almost exactly like Sir George. Holy cow he’s almost identical to the way George was this time 50 years ago
So he just re produced Sergeant Pepper and it's now number one on the charts? Nice
Adding Drake to St Pepper album is sacrilege
It's an insult!!!
Yea, that actually kinda pissed me off. So unneeded and just disrespectful to true artists. Drake can make a hit and look cool, but he's not an artist.
No joke, I almost spilled my tea with your comment.
It’s a joke.
WTF is a “drake”?
Giles Giles And Fripp was a great band, cool to see one of them on Fallon.
1:08 The worst fake laugh in the history of the universe.
teppolundgren Exactly!!!
Fake Fuck!
James Corden did a faker one while with Mark Wahlberg.
@@keithsmith756 Well, this laugh was at least 4 years old, so I guess Corden beat his own record since then.
Agreed. Referencing both Fallon and Corden . . . with so many truly talented people in the business, how did those two get chosen? IMO, Fallon is a decent musician and Corden is a fine actor -- he won a Tony, but neither has the requisite skill to run a chat show.
You are a good man very humble
He sounds just like George :O
It's like a mix of both
@Hugh Jones he wasn't talking about George Harrison
Giles Martin was born on John Lennon's birthday in 1969...the month after John Lennon said he didn't want to be a part of the group anymore...April 10, 1970...Paul made it official...
pure class.
Giles another 2nd generation beatle doing so well in the world.
jimmy is very super anchor
DANESH BABU STFU!!!!! You are a moron!!!
Complexity and Trippie let alone the psychedelic songs, taken the music to a whole new level and beyond like no other has gone before!
He’s going to produce an album with me. So good!
''I've listened to this album thousands of times'' but he doesn't know what year it came out
I remember Jimmy's first time open that album on his snapchat :)
At 4:47 he sounds just like his Dad
Very interesting interview! Love the new version of Sgt. peppers.
I thought that sticker on the front of the album proclaiming “as you’ve never heard it before!” was just a bit of marketing. But it’s not. It really is an all new experience and I can’t tell how because it’s all the same songs, but he managed to breathe new magic into it anyways.
Incredible album. Was a sixteen-year-old, massive Beatle fan and waited at EJ Korvettes, NYC, to buy this album, first day. I know, there are better records and groups but AT THE TIME, it was an amazing experience. This interview is great for two reasons. First, Giles' dad was the fifth Beatle and behind the scenes, which Giles talks about is riveting. Sorry, Millenials, love you but this Baby Boomer, growing up with JFK assasination and horrific Vietnam War, the Beatles was our Prozac.
Brian McManus Actually, no there is no better group than the Beatles and arguably no better album than Pepper. :)
I will repeat what Vivis McManus stated: "...there is no better group than the Beatles and arguably no better album than Pepper. :)"
Why is everyone so mad about the drake thing. Y’all are acting like he’s spraypainting a pentagram on a painting of Jesus Christ
Those comments about the dog whistles. Funny. This is such a great album. The cover, alone. I can't believe there is a picture of an original Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe on it. Great album.
Damn, Jimmy was so honored. Who wouldn't actually
"Tonight With Giles Martin" sounds better 😎✌️🕺
It's not surprising that Giles is now the "Sound Experience Leader" with the acclaimed SONOS wireless audio systems
I was the uncool kid at school this was the first album I got, I didn't care bein not current
True gentleman
I've always said the Beatle kids should do an album together. It's not like any of them have a career to speak of. Sean, James, Dhani, and Zack have not had any success as recording artists, so what would they have to lose if they got together and got Giles Martin to produce a CD? I don't think anybody would expect Beatle level stuff.
Why would they want to ?, they all live their own lives in different counties, it must be bad enough for them already being compared to their fathers all the time... Julian was the most successful but people were always comparing him to John, I think he spends most of his time painting now..
Zakk has recorded and played live with the Who and oasis. Not a bad drummer. Better than his dad. But like all of them, they'd have got NOWHERE, man, had it not been for their famous and mega-wealthy dads. Any producer could do what Giles Martin is doing. But not all 'producers' have the great good fortune to be George Martin's son. Think about it before heaping praise upon any of them.
That thing with the 15 khz tone at the end is something that i actually never noticed... Nice :D
Fallon is such a tool...especially for adding Drake to the album cover...
Grateful Jimmy didn't try to do a Beatles impression this time.
R.i.p George Martin
3:31 -7 Jimmy, 1967.
Beard 😍
i feel like fallon was genuine.
Giles Martin was born on John Lennon's birthday in 1969...the month after John Lennon said he didn't want to be a part of the group anymore...April 10, 1970...Paul made it official...(Giles had turned 6 months old just the day before)
'83 Australian Audio-5 LP >>>>>> 2017 Remix ( a rip of the LP is available online )
Pady bu Is that the Sydney Hi-Fi? I’ve heard many good things about it, along with MFSL’s UHQR
I believe Giles produced some of McCartney's songs from the New album a few years back.
those thumbs down votes are from people who've never heard of The Beatles.
nah it's cause of sgt. drake
its because jimmy fallon is a loser
why do people dislike this
Well now, where did he come from?? One day I hear he is remixing and re-imagining Beatles material for the Love show for Cirque du Soleil. Next thing he's remixing Sgt. Pepper and now the White Album. No previous track record that any other producer would need before he even got near those tapes. This kid's got a job for life, the lucky bastard!
Good point but he does explain here (had never heard that before) that he was hanging around his dad when he was a teenager to help him "hear" as he was going death. So he was born in 1969, I wonder if he was already around for Paul's "Tug of War" or "Pipes of Peace" ?
"Never could see any other way" is the gibberish at the end of the disc...
Nobody mentions the 2 children from G Martin's first marriage: Greg and Alexis. G Martin just left them and rarely cared..also actually excluded them from his will. The public gets a picture of a Mr. perfect....
this is such a plot twist. gave me Julian Lennon feeling...
1914 1922, I didn't know about that. That is very sad.
Sounds like you have some personal knowledge of the kids. Did you know them? The bitterness between parents sometimes spills over into the children and they become pawns in the battles. There is no excuse for it ....people should take responsibility for their actions especially when children of a young age are involved. They need to have a good emotional base into young adulthood to deal with the world...it's cruel enough. When my brother split up with his wife I saw firsthand what that sort of thing can do. The kids were so happy and free before then became moody and irritable after the split. George Martin was involved in all those Beatle Albums which spoke about love. Guess he was too deaf to hear the words!!!
That beard fits him
Elsa Hross yes
what about his fake laugh ?
Giles looked extremely pissed when he put drake on there
I'm a 14 year old Beatles fan and got super triggered when jimmy put drake on the album. 😂
I'm only 14 and I'd rather listen this music that is good than my own generations music which is bad 😂😂 😐
me too
Pady bu does your friends think it's normal, because seriously I feel like an outcast for hearing good classic music
Jimmy is an idiot
I'm 7,346 years old and I got triggered when they started talking about The Beatles…
Anybody know outro music is called ?
theme written by the Roots. Sick bass line, right?
it's actually the roots playing ''Brown Sugar'' by D'Angelo........not a theme written by the Roots.
Trent Jansz awesome! did not know that.
Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Now, bring on the White Album!!!
Why do I find it so weird for that Giles Martin is on the tonight show? Don't get me wrong, AWESOME dude, I just never would expect to see him on this, you know?
Nick Beers ...same here. He sounds intelligent cool like his dad!
Having the most famous record producer in history as his dad might have something to do with it. Not exactly held him back, has it?
É todo o pai dele do modo de falar ao gesticular.
Giles doing god's work!!!
Gentleman, I wonder if Giles would listen to my voice I'd like to visit the studios.🤗
0:46 Cherry (or Jerry) noticed it? Who's that?
First interview I've seen from Fallon where he docent interrupt every 5 seconds
This Jimmy talks and asks about shit and insults the legendary cover of one of the best albums of the best band of the world!
interesting comment, " these people are so good at what they do ". Exactly what a sibling of George Martin should be saying about extremely gifted musicians of his era. He wasn't there on set to be a fan, he was not there to gaga over the celebrity. He was there to help his father do a job..... with people who are extremely good at what they do.
Actually, the New York Times completely panned Sgt. Pepper. People, even Giles assumes everybody loved The Beatles but lots of critics and others tried to tear them down.
Questlove asking the real questions
Thumbs up for Giles, not Jimmys overacting.
Watch it again - one or two laughs, but very little of Jimmy's typical overacting, and the questions that he asks are not the basic silliness that he usually puts his interviewees through. I get the impression that he's genuinely knowledgeable about the album and respectful of it (apart from putting Drake on it - that one moment was just silly).
We need apologies from Universal/Apple/GilesM/PMcCartney - the White Album 50th Anniversary is wrong (apart from the two original discs remixed), it is cheating fans and drawing money from our pockets - there should be an additional disc (nr3) including final remixex/mixes of Hey Jude, Inner Light, Not Guilty, What's the New Mary Jane, Lady Madonna, Revolution (single vers), full fast version of Helter Skelter leading to Ringo's uttering "I have blisters on my fingers," also could probably include You Know My Name since recording sessions span 1967 - 69, also Hey Bulldog (recorded with Lady Madonna) - like on Sgt. Pepper 50th there are final mixes of Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane, the session discs could include two/three versions of Sexy Sadie, Not Guilty, and others, showing evolution of the songs, and not the same as on the Anthology series (including the same versions as on Anthology is really cheating us), also are we interested in instrumental versions ? - NOT in J. Lennon's voice ?, also the positive atmosphere is not true - Ringo Starr and Geoff Emerick left : "lost interest in the White Album because they were really arguing amongst themselves and swearing at each other" (GEmerick), why is Giles M lying ? - take this guy Giles M away from it ! - the only professional guy at remixing these days is Steven Wilson who has done GentleGiant, JethroTull, Yes, KingCrimson, Marillion - and everybody is happy with his work - the next time they return to White Album will be in around 20 years - me dead / also - it's a crime to have sped up She's Leaving Home on Sgt. Pepper 2017 remix
How dare Jimmy put Drake on the Sgt.Pepper cover that's a disgrace! Drake and every artist out there today can't touch the Beatles!
WillCarr 91 as someone who started to obsess over this band since I was 12 I thought it would’ve been a missed opportunity if he didn’t do it XD Giles didn’t seem to be amused though. Understandable.
YOU ARE SOOOOOO RIGHT NOBODY COMES CLOSE TO THE BOYS THAT WAS & INSULT TO JOHN & GEORGES MEMORY & TO PAUL & RINGO TOO
It's just a joke, don't be square:)
Shut the fuck up you triggered bitch
Jimmy Fallon is simply not funny, and cannot be trusted with real music at all.
Before the 1000 vews, i'm really excited
He is his dad lol the same exact voice and looks
He sounds just like his old man
Those tape boxes look pristine for their age. 3:16
The apple dosen't fall far from the tree! [no pun intended]
The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree applys here!
Haha get it? Apple? lmao
i wonder if giles will raise one of his children to do the same with their recordings after he passes on
The dog whistle story always cracks me up. People will insist their dogs react to the track, when it reality, 99% of commercial speakers can't reproduce that frequency. So, if you spent less than 5k for you speaker, your dog can't hear it.
Screw the one person who disliked this
its so funny😂👍
Fallon looks like Festus with That scraggly beard
Giles Martin should produce an album with the sons of The Beatles.
why??
That’ll be magic!
As an exercise in disappointment?
It would never happen , no one wants to live in their father's shadow..
You're joking, right? Just because he was lucky enough to be born to a famous father, does that make him a genius too? Or just...Lucky, lucky, lucky! And as for the kids; just fuck right off! Again, just lucky, over-indulged brats. I wonder where any of them would have been if they had to make it without the help of their famous and mega-rich dads? Not exactly hindered them, has it?
4:47
handsome
I can hear the dog whistle, legitimately.
StasheTag #BeardLife
Is it just me who thinks Giles sounds just like current day Paul McCartney
My hearing's not great, but in every version of Sgt. Pepper's I've heard, it's a very obvious noise to me.
Love the facial hair, Jimmy!
The Sargent Peppers album put George Harrison's guitar playing aside.
What’s a drake?
