Is Savi's Workshop at Disneyland Worth It? | FULL Lightsaber Experience
Today, we're building a lightsaber at Disneyland's Savi's Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Is it worth it?
The cost is $219.99 plus tax, coming in at around ~$235. You are allowed to select between 4 different styles. I chose Power and Control. The styles have been updated from the old appearances and look better than ever.
You'll be called in as a group and go through a full immersive experience during your build. Each part required to build the lightsaber comes with two options. There are two presets, but you can mix and match pieces from each preset within your chosen style.
You cannot mix and match lightsaber styles.
Overall, the only thing I would have done differently is I would have selected blue in the experience and purchased a red at the store in the hopes of acquiring a black.

I think the reason it doesn't publicly say "SAVI'S WORKSHOP" is because this whole "planet" is monitored by The First Order. I don't think they'd be happy if they knew there was a place where resistance members were constructing lightsabers guided by Yoda himself. It fits the lore.
Yes! Someone else pointed this out and I love it. For guest purposes, it makes it a little harder to actually find. But I love the lore aspect.
My wife, son and I went to Disney World a handful of years ago. Hit Galaxy's Edge and loved it. Went to Savi's to watch my son build his own lightsaber. Standing there, mega-excited for him, a Character approaches and says "Okay, I have a reservation for a party of 2...". I'm confused and then my wife yells surprise and then I'm going in to build a lightsaber WITH my son. Still gets me. IYK,YK.
That is an AWESOME story. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome story
I wish they had better consistency with the cast members acting. I’ve seen some truly amazing cast members who make it feel so much more immersive and I’ve seen some that seem like they are just going through the motions
I experienced something similar in Tower of Terror years ago, where 1 CM went above and beyond so much that I not only contacted them but spoke to a supervisor after the ride.. hopefully the CM received acknowledgement.. we ar doing this in a couple weeks.. i hope i get a good one
It’s almost like they pay cast members poorly and work them far too hard. Weird.
My cast member at batu east was great 11/10
I was lucky when I went. The guy running it was really good.
The guy who did mine was really good at immersing everyone
you have incredible taste in lightsaber components, the saber you built looks incredible!!!
i know it reminds me of sifo dyas. it's so cool
I just feel bad that he paid $250 + most sabers at that price have much more effects and can change colors with out needing to pay for more crystals. Very overrated
@@KaylasStarWorld yeah i wouldn't be spending money on a Disney lightsaber myself haha
It's a very nice experience you can have there. I really enjoyed it. However, on my last visit I missed the shop's interaction with the soldiers. The first time, it was a real hide and seek between the shop and the soldiers. When a soldier came closer, everything was hidden. There were also far fewer Storm Troopers than before.
I'm gonna be a negative Nancy and say its overrated
I am so happy I did that experience, it was so awesome 🤩 thank you for sharing
I still get chills remembering my experience. Built mine during AP preview of Galaxy’s Edge in 2019. Never regret doing it.
I believe there are lightsaber-like banners, but I actually like how the shop is hidden (from the First Order). It was expensive, but my daughter loved it. Great experience.
Yes! The obscurity plays into the drama they build with the narrative.
How much was it 😭
@@anderssonascencio5275240$. Not bad for Disney prices and certainly a bit pricey, but I liked the experience.
Normal ppl: why tf r ppl spending so much on Star Wars?! Star Wars fans: I find your lack of faith disturbing
Thank you, so much! Your video helped me decide to do this. I just got back and have to say this was my highlight of an excellent trip (thanks for all your tip videos). It was a truly magical experience and I love my lightsaber.
Glad you enjoyed it and had a great time! It was such a memorable thing to do, it’s not something I’ll forget anytime soon. I loved it, too.
Amazing! I'm for sure doing this next year.
Great video I’m going to Disney land later this month and it will be my first time seeing all the new Star Wars stuff and I’m really looking forward to this part of my experience!!
I'm based in the UK and will be visiting for the first time in a few weeks. Now I'm even more excited. Great video 🔥
Again another great and in depth review of an experience! Thanks Traver! The gf and I just tried making beignets at home for the first time (we posted our experience) and it was NOT easy lol! Have a great day!
My aunt used to make beignets all the time. They lived in Baton Rouge for 10 years or so. We’d always buy a box of Cafe Du Monde beignet mix.
Thanks for the video! We did it in 2019 and struggled getting it home on a flight- we didn’t know it came apart!! Hoping to do it again in Nov. we also couldn’t have more than one person so good to know we can all go and watch
We were told today that they have an option to have it shipped home for you. The CM should let you know when you check in.
plus you dont have to carry it the rest of the day
Thank you for your insights! This video was super helpful explaining if the high price tag is worth it!
It is definitely not cheap, but worth every penny at least once for an avid Star Wars fan, I think.
That actually looks like fun. Not a Star Wars fan. But for all those people who are like you, Traver. So happy you got to experience it.
The choice is the best part. I had a good time overall with the experience, but I think I would have been just as content at $50 less without the theming, just me a pile of "junk" and building to my heart's content.
Coming here and doing the light saber workshop in November! I'm so excited!
Amazing bag instructions. Never would have figured it out.
My saber looks the same only I picked purple as my girls were with me
Went to Disneyland this past December during Christmas break with the family. It was my first time to Star Wars : Galaxy's Edge all I can say is WOW!! Talk about geeking out . Once I got to Galaxy's Edge I had to build a Lightsaber. I had my 2 grandsons as helpers. They helped me choose the components for my Lightsaber (Protection & Defense) Old Republic. I know I am not the only Science Fiction nerd out there at 64 yrs old, the experience was fantastic in my opinion. I would recommend just do it . Have fun with it.
That's awesome! I'm glad you got to experience that with them.
I think in terms of what you get for your money, there is very little at Disney parks that are worth it. The prices charged at the parks for things is ridiculous, especially for the quality of the products. Like with most things in life, you are paying for the name. It’s nice that a kind of show is put on to go along with the build process, but that’s more for the kids, and makes you feel like you’re getting more for your money. Your video it’s l was good though, and enjoyable to watch. You have an adorable family too
Most of the sabers they sell you should only be like $80 at best instead you pay $250 + super overrated
@@KaylasStarWorld Totally agree.
This looks amazing! My dad would absolutely love this experience being a Star Wars fan his whole life. ☺️ Thank you for sharing!
It was phenomenal. If you're headed to Disneyland, he should definitely consider doing this!
do they have yellow crystal to choose ? im interested in doing this .would be my first time but didnt really see the yellow
I can't wait to build a lightsaber for my Disney vacation with my mom. I need to make sure and make reservations and everything
This is REALLY making me consider booking the experience for my trip this summer.
It was sooooo awesome. I legit want another one. I just don’t want to pay for it again. 😂 They used to sell just the scrap metal pieces for $20/each a few years ago, but they stopped. I really want the pieces I DIDN’T choose just to have as options. But it’s still fantastic as is.
Thanks for sharing as always Traver; always insightful. I'll be there the 27th for the first time and looking forward to experiencing this as well. Going with protection/defense. What's your take on the stands tho at dok ondar's? I am probably just going to get on etsy. I know you took yours with you but I'm thinking of having the blade shipped at dok's as well since flying so don't have to carry around and mess with it.
I did not drop the $50. 😂 I haven’t bought one yet but I do plan to get one somewhere. Most definitely online.
I finally went after so many years and I loved my experience however I will say you can definitely get a better lightsaber somewhere else but I loved the experience and would definitely do it again but wish they had more options
Yep! Definitely building a life saber next visit
I built one for myself and it was completely worth it. The experience is much different than just purchasing a saber for dueling or for whatever purpose you desire. This Saber, Peace and Justice, that I built, far exceeds my others in that I built it and the experience behind it. Price is similar to others and the quality is very good, especially for Disneyland.
I very much agree with this
It was a fun experience. The experience is reflective of how well you like the cast member who is leading the event. I was not the biggest fan of our crew members. However, It was still fun. I built the same saber as you because I thought it looked the coolest. I wish the cast member had mentioned that you could buy additional accessories, like more crystals after we were done.
New scrap!!! Nice gotta add to my collection. Pro Tip; if you decide to display be sure to take batteries out, so it does not leak and ruin it.
I'll never go to Disney and not build a saber...very fun fan stuff 😂
Overall an awesome experience. I don’t think I would do it again. I just bought a neopixel lightsaber. Blows the Disney saber out of the water. Sav’is lightsaber just doesn’t compare, still love the experience.
why would you do it a second time anyways?
Well it should given the price difference. 🤨
Considering the tech the sabers, the fact that you have to pay for additional crystals to get sound profiles (which are literally already built into it, they still make you pay to have them) as well as the build quality (had multiple issues with them, even right after I got them, had to walk back to the workshop and get replacement parts, good luck doing that at home though) and many more factors, the sabers are not worth it. The experience is great, but after you walk away you feel like you just got railed by a pawn shop. If you care about anything but the 30 minutes you get to enjoy the experience, I'd spend the extra $100-200 on better sabers for a MUCH better experience.
Agree I think its overrated, just get a neo pixel or base lit if you wanna make it feel special just play the force theme as you open and activate your saber lol
@@KaylasStarWorld Bought a Xenopixel and the 1% brightness is brighter than any Disney saber, and every trait I talked about + more it absolutely wins over Disney. From effects to overall customization, no competition.
Great video, such a magical experience. Do you know if any of the lockers are large enough to hold a lightsaber or if there is a "bag check" for them?
So cool!!!! I'm going to have to sign up for this on my next trip to disneyland!!
Definitely do!
The blade i got with my lightsaber stopped working after sitting unused for a couple months. My battery pack also shorted out but i was able to fix that on my own
Exactly a year to the day right now when I went to Disneyland. Had an appointment at Savi’s. But due to supply chains shortages they were limited to just Power & Control and even then had very limited parts. Like many others, cancelled my appointment on the spot. I was very disappointed. Glad to hear they have new parts and sufficient parts too right now. I am hoping to visit Disney World this coming winter and ensure I try once again.
Definitely do it! I think it’s a must for any Star Wars fan.
My dad made his today. It's an expensive experience, but very cool. Our CM's were great.
Awesome build. Know the boys need to get there lightsabers.
You can actually get an rfid reader/writer and program in the black Saber or any of the other colors
Thanks for the review! I was wondering about the quality of the lightsaber. Is it a real crystal? I’m going next week and am trying to make my time and funds count
If you build a sith saber, can you still pick whatever color crystal you want? Or does it have to be red?
You can choose whatever color. And if you want a chance at Black, I actually recommend picking a different color in the experience and buying a red. Because Red boxes are the only ones with a shot at Black.
Great vid as always guys. One question: how long is the blade alone when removed? we are travelling onwards after disneyland and wanted to see if it will fit in our bags. Thanks again
I'm not sure on the dimensions, but it doesn't fit in either of our suitcases (standard size). If I stick the blade under my armpit and extend my hand out, it extends another 8 inches or so past my finger tips.
@@SoCalDisneyDad The Savi's Workshop lightsaber blade is 31 inches long. The lightsaber blades they sell at Dok Ondar's are 26in and 36in.
@@jrios29 Thank you!
@@SoCalDisneyDad My pleasure! I'm grateful to have found your channel! You are very honest and give great tips! Keep up the great work!
I was going to ask the same question. Trying to think how to get one on a plane now 😂
I’ll be going back to Disneyland (it’s been YERAS) this October and this is one of the things I’m most looking forward to! And the Droid Depot! Thanks for the video! I’m even more excited now!
Pretty cool! If it wasn't so expensive I would do it too lol 😅 😆
Yeah, it’s pricey. But totally worth it if you love Star Wars and collect bookshelf knickknacks. I have the hilt sitting on my shelf and the blade on top for when I feel like playing with it
What do you do with a 3 foot light saber on the rest of your day at the park?! AND, how to do you fly back home with that thing? Does it count as your personal item? Do you have to check it? (It's 100% getting broken if so....)
Ahhh, you always remember your first... lightsaber. 😉 Though I have not been to Galaxy's Edge, mine was about two decades ago, and was a Master Replicas Darth Vader lightsaber - then only CAD$90 at Costco! A gift from my wife, who sadly thought she was being fiscally responsible and not *also* buying the Luke Skywalker lightsaber at the same time/price! Was never that inexpensive for a lightsaber again, and never returned to Costco 😔 It was the first of five I'd eventually own (or several, as two are MR Lightsaber Construction Kits, with many options), and I'd own many more if I wasn't the one now being fiscally responsible. If I ever do get down to SW:GE, it's predetermined that I will do Savi's Workshop 😎
I went yesterday and they changed the spikes so now you don’t have to take it off. Not sure what changed but I can confirm it works without removing now
I wish I could visit this place
Your ligthsaber is so cool bro ima select that one!
I built my very first lightsaber when I went for 2023 gradnite, the experience is amazing and I would go again (mainly because a week later the hilt stopped working but thankfully I bought anakins lightsaber while I was there so I can make the blade useful)
Thanks for the info! Just wondering if you might be able to answer a question - we’re visiting soon and will have a 9 month old baby in our group. The info on the app says you can have two guests plus the builder - do you think they would count the baby as one? We’re hoping to have one builder plus 2 adults watching plus the baby, while the rest of us do rise of the resistance!
Should be fine. We had three, my wife and two kids. I imagine you could get the baby in.
Great, thanks! That what I figured!
Mine didn’t break but it comes apart so easily. The pieces doesn’t screw tight.
Did it once and truly enjoyed it. Now with the new scraps they have, definitely doing it again
The new scrap looks really great!
This is Craig Dennis did you all had a nice trip did you all have a nice trip back home i watch all of your new videos all the time you all take care👍👍👍👍👍
We had an awesome time. Thank you!
Thx for this! Unrelated request-Do you know what's going on with The Tale of the Lion King? App doesn't list any showtimes well into the future. Do you know if it is still playing?
They’ve been canceling it daily. Last I heard, it was staffing issues. Perhaps they have just the number of actors they need and if one or two call in sick it might prevent the show from going on. And there’s a lot of people that perform, so the possibility for cancellations is high unless they can hire backups.
@SoCal Disney Dad Thank you! I'm hoping it comes back soon! So sad to miss Fantasmic this summer, and hopefully not this show too. Thanks for sharing your time, insights, and family with us!
Hi, can you make reservation day of. Or should the reservation be made in advance?
I have to wonder though, is if the lightsaber blade that you get with the saber is duel worthy.
Definitely not.
I just built my first saber this past week and funny it's the exact same as yours, except I went with the purple blade. I carried mine around in the case completely in tact without having to remove the top spikes. I went in with the same mindset that it would be a plastic hilt, because the elemental one looked plastic in all the pics I saw before going. Love the weight of it. I'm thinking of doing a little airbrushing to make it look more battle used and worn.
That’s a great idea! Have you ever played Jedi: Survivor? (Not sure if you play video games) Because one of the things I love about that game was the ability to customize your hilt down to every piece like this experience, plus adding 4-5 different levels of wear and tear. It was great.
This experience looks like a lot of fun! We have done the droid depot and have thought about doing this next time!
I did Droid Depot before. I don’t think I’d do it again. But definitely would for sure do Savi’s again, even with the $219.99 price tag.
@@SoCalDisneyDad $219.99 is that the same price on the whole range of lightsaber's
@@Wolshanze That’s the Savi’s price. So everything you can build at Savi’s is in that price. But you can get Legacy sabers (Obi-Wan, Luke, Vader, etc) for cheaper. Usually in the $150 range. You can’t build it or disassemble it, but it’s the same lightsaber technology as the Savi’s blades.
I went last summer and the bigger guy who was just an assistant in this video played Savi, and he was a MUCH better actor, who made you really feel like you were doing something important. The guy in this video just seemed to be going through the motion.
The experience was really fun but when I went I had to wait the whole day until 10 at night to get a spot and actually do it.
How much are the crystals?? I was planning on building a red but since you mentioned the black, I’m thinking of getting a blue, then purchasing the red for a chance at the black!
I don’t remember because they aren’t out and available to look through. They have everything behind the counter. I guess people try to look into the boxes to see if they can find a black. $15-$20 I think.
I sooooooo want to do this but how do i get it home (flying in and out). will they ship?
We did it today. You can have it shipped home. The CM's will let you know where to go when you check in.
thanks!!!!
Is there a better time of day to try to do the experience? I'm thinking mostly of carrying things around while riding attractions.
I did it at 2 PM because check in at the hotel was 3 PM (or supposed to be, we ended up getting our room a lot earlier that morning). So I’d suggest scheduling for right before you head back to your room or leave for the day.
@@SoCalDisneyDad Thank you!
Our experience was good. The only thing that sucked was we did it for my son's birthday and his was the only one that didn't light up. They fixed it right away, and it's not their fault. Just felt bad for my son that the lighting experience was delayed. He still loved it. Wish the black crystal was easier to get and did more
I love how everything just turns to chaos once people start building. 😂
Wow. The guy running your experience was the same one who did ours back in 2019!
That’s cool.
We're almost saber twins, except you picked a different pommel. It was a tough choice for me too.
Awesome! I really like the “grippy” style. Don’t really know what to call it. But I wanted the pommel to match the emitter. Truth be told, I would gladly have all of the parts to mix and match at my leisure.
How long is the experience?
The Experience Itself feels like you're forging your saber on Ilum (The planet you get your Kyber Crystal On).
so cool! the only thing i'd have to worry about is getting this thing on an airplane
How much does the light saber cost
I did this experience last year during Star Wars Nights. Was it worth it? Well I think a hard core fan would enjoy it. As a casual like myself it was enjoyable but I had my little gripes with it. Such as; well the light saber you build is more a show piece, not really made for any kind of play like banging it with another light saber as you toy around with friends. Understandable for a over $200 piece and experience, would not something like that to break. The customization portion is nice, however I would have liked to have been able to keep the unused parts so you can always go back and swap them out on your own time. After all for what you pay, would be a nice incentive to have been able to. Was nice to see others experiences and I like you was giddy all inside when going through the whole workshop experience. Would I do it again? Possibly, but think would rather save the money, and save up for a more sturdier piece from some other light saber makers.
I can't remember how it's done. BUT you CAN recode any crystal to get the different colors. so you could make it black
Yeah, it’s just an RFID reader. I am not RFID-savvy though.
Did you have to book days before? Or when you arrive?
I booked a few days/weeks ahead of time, but they have plenty of “day of” reservations.
How much cost you in total $ for built the lightsaber ?
It is $237
I did the elemental nature one when I did it. I want to do it again since they offered new versions since when I did it.
Yeah, I saw the old ones, at least for Power and Control and Peace and Justice, and I much prefer the newer options.
I have the exact same build for my lightsaber
If I were to do this, I'd make one like the one he made.
We did this with our 6 and 7 year olds at Disney World last year and it was SO AMAZING! We cried. 100 percent recommend. A once in a lifetime experience.
For sure! Absolutely! It was so awesome. I want to do it again. 😂 But don’t want to pay another $250 😭
@@SoCalDisneyDad 😆 oh yeah. This is a "one and done" kind of thing for us.
Ha! We built the exact same saber lol Did yo have to use a place holder for your spike part. I had to go get mine outside as it was deemed a hazard lol
didnt know about the store next to Savi
For those that went thru the experience, where is the light saber now?
Looks fun Have u done the Droid builder in Star Wars land?
I have at WDW maybe 3 years back. I wouldn’t do it again. Not really worth it. But this totally was.
Ok thanks for the reply
A friend and I are going for Season of the Force. If she builds a lightsaber, are there lockers big enough to hold the lightsaber.
No. You have to carry it, leave it with a cast member to deliver to the front of the park for pick up later, or go back to your hotel with it. They don’t have lockers that allow for easy access. You could also have it shipped home if you are worried about airplane transportation too. But then you don’t get to play with it while you’re there.
@@SoCalDisneyDad Thank you! We're driving from NorCal, so I think leaving with a cast member for later pick is the best option.
You can buy crystals separately after your build to change the lights and sound so it's a good investment
I got 4 reds and got a black. It was for me and a friend to play a game of who could a black. He won
If the reservation states that it is for one person, that affects it i want to bring a guest?
You can take up to 2 guests with you. They must watch, and not participate. Only one person participates.
@@SoCalDisneyDad Thank you so much!! Im so exited! Love Your vids!, im form mexico and this is my First time!!
Hey how’d you bring your lightsaber home on your flight I’m confused on how I’ll take mine home.
That’s a good question! I’m a local, so no flight necessary. I would check Disboards. I’m sure folks have discussed it before on there. You might have to ship it. I’m not sure.
I looked at the prices and it said it was around $250 for the time, is that true or is there cheeper Version’s?
Prices have probably gone up. I did this almost a year ago, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
But, an update. I just checked and it’s priced at $219.99 If you saw $250, you’re looking at the Disney World Savi’s, not Disneyland. WDW’s is more expensive for the same thing.
My husband did this and we got to watch…. I legit cried,😂
Oh! And I searched on Etsy and found a wall mount so he has his hanging vertically on the wall in his office.
@@brandikorte8151 I did see a few on Etsy! I haven’t bought anything yet though.
Great video. Outstanding details about the saber and it's workings. Not run o the mill. Thanx
i could tell you were giving a positive reviiew with the look of your smile @4:30 (and @6:20) 😅 The black crystal is really super uncommon in those red crystal packs. The CMs did an awesome job. I'm glad you had fun.
I know the blacks are uncommon, but I would have loved the chance to even get one (without buying an unnecessary red crystal, that’s why I should have chosen something like blue in the experience). Too bad the black isn’t a chance in all the colors. Then I’d be more inclined to buy one of every color.
My friend went a few years ago. I gave him $100 to buy all red crystals. I got a black one from doing this. It was a surprise. I still don’t have a saber though
I didn’t know that they updated the pieces
I just went last week bought 2 red crystals a white and yellow and ended up getting a black was amped...
That’s awesome!
I wish they have more colors and components to choose from
I think a fifth set composed of more "scrappy" looking parts would be nice!
I thought you said one of the kids was going to be making a lightsaber too? When they started this building experience, it cost $200. That's sort of a rip-off that you have to buy the carrying case, the display stand, and a belt clip separately. I have all of the legacy lightsabers from Master Replicas. I don't have a personal lightsaber though.
No. Just me. It is very expensive. The one bonus was that it’s $30 cheaper here than WDW.
God I hope they put a yellow crytal soon
