  • It's not an after-market body kit - it is, as far as I know, the standard factory V8 Vantage body of the time. It wouldn't be fair, obviously, to call you ignorant - and anyway, ignorant isn't the slur people build it up to be: it just means you don't know stuff - but this is one of the early Vantages, and the Vantage modifications became incorporated into the design of the car as opposed to being bolt-on parts with the introduction of the Oscar India cars in October 1978. Of course, the GKN-Sankey wheels are a non-standard colour, but period correct x

    • It's not a Vantage. It's a regular V8 Auto, with factory kit that was usually reserved for the Vantage.

    • @@raymondthomadwormald9621 Perhaps. Who knows what went through the mind of William Towns as he penned the original DBS back in the '60s. Undoubtedly the Mustang was big news when it launched in '64, and it's not impossible that it might have been an influence. The V8 is an evolution of the DBS, triggered by David Brown's sale of Aston Martin to Company Developments Ltd in 1972. I think the original Mustang would have been considered old hat by then, having been superceded by the admittedly stunning Mach 2.

  • I once rebuilt a classic Aston V8 engine for a really good friend of mine. I did it for nothing ( the labour, he paid for the parts ) just for the chance to work on something so awesome. I'm pretty sure that the rebuild kit for one of the carburettors cost more than whatever four wheeled heap I was driving at the time. When it was done he had a brass plate engraved for the engine bay with my name on it and the rebuild date, which was an outstanding thank you on his part. But it's enjoyable in a different way when he doesn't feel like he has to be the centre of attention he seems much happier. You two really should explore doing some more stuff together. Needs a master cylinder hence the leisurely speed on last clip… god knows how much that will be to replace or refurbish… but, we have no plans to sell… even though one of our KZhead barb finders offered to buy it there and then…

Why you ask ,well these have a bad habit of sticking on even when the choke is pushed fully home and bore wash will kill that engine as soon as look at it. Glad that the late owners boys got it running better, the first time I tuned one I had it running with the air box off as in the film, the owner came to see how it was going and I showed him what had been done, then opened the tap a bit he jumped back in surprise and looked somewhat startled, then said now I know why the sodding thing only does five to the gallon, wonderful cars Thankyou for letting us see it . In the end, it was one of the better kit forms of Capri/Aston - Vantage V8s. And it looked ACE! One of his previous projects was doing a full resto on a Sunbeam Alpine (I also loved that car!) • 1 thing I've noticed about all the successful petrol head youtubers, they all seem like decent blokes. Johnie, Tarvarish, Auto Alex, Matt Armstrong, Ben Colllins, Matt Watson, Yarnie, and even though I'm not a massive fan, Hammond. All seem like decent people.

  • Great episode…as usual. I feel for this family, losing a loved one during the lockdown, while the government of the time partied…but it’s so nice to hear that they also got this car back running as a family. Great channel Jonny…keep it up!

  • No, that’s not life, man! That was a complete misjudgement and borderline evil by our governments. I feel bad for you guys and of course especially your mom. All the best from Germany where we left our parents and grandparents to die all alone in retirement homes. I still can’t believe that this happened…😢

  • The best-looking Aston martin I've ever seen. Didn't even know it existed. Great job by the owners finishing what you started. That car deserves to be driven and seen by others. Congrats on getting the old girl going again. 🤝

  • Brilliant video and a great addition with Freddie. As others have said what a genuinely humble lovely guy with great humour. Stands to reason he himself is doing so well. Its heartwarming to see Johnny, Freddie, Matt Armstrong and many others offer such great content, so much better than the TV!

  • As a subscriber to Freddie's channels, was very nice to see him have the experience of a Barn find with Jonny and to see 2 guys from different circles getting together and just being car guys. Looks from the video that Freddie certainly got his hands dirty in the work done and love the idea of a Barn Find USA special in the future maybe

  • Let out an audible moan when I saw the reveal. I think my housemate heard. 😳 You were spot on when you said it looked so tough, but it was before my time, so I never really knew much about them before now. Thanks for always bringing such a diverse range of vehicles to my attention, and the humans behind them.
