Chateau Easter Preparations: Ukrainian Paska, Hot Cross Buns, Paasstol and Rosca de Pascua!
We start the preparations for our big Easter Party by baking international Easter specialities for each of the nationalities represented at Lalande - Ukrainian Paskha, British Hot Cross Buns, Argentinian Rosca de Pascua and Dutch Passstol. The history of each of these specialities is fascinating, and tasting them is a way of going back in time with recipes from the past...
If you want to try these delicious, historic Easter treats, these are the online recipes that we used:

Stephanie: Dear Lady. Your home is the world in miniature. If the world could get along and show that love that exists in LaLande…humanity might have a chance. God bless. Glory to Ukraine.
I'm not crying. OK, I am. Your sentiments are spot on. We the people are so alike. Viva La Lande!
I agree don't understand wars or hate between people

Thanks from Odesa, Ukraine!!!
Be safe 🙏 💛 💙
Oksana Bauil of Ukraine is one of my all-time favorite figure skaters. Love from Texas in the U.S.
Praying for your safety there Julia 🙏🏻
❤️❤️❤️
Julia, I hope you and your family stay safe in Odesa, the whole world watches in disbelief and anger at Putin’s aggression. Love from Australia
It was fun to see so many different versions of basically the same thing. The shape of some is different and there are different toppings or icings but so many similarities. I think the people of the world are like that as well. We all have the same basic form with different sprinkles of culture on top and it all turns out so deliciously.
Dan has mastered Stephanie’s wide eyed look
And the drop jaw. Still working on the laugh me thinks.
In the Middle East, christians celebrate easter by making cookies called ma’amoul . The dough is made with semolina stuffed with dates, walnuts or pistachios, then pressed into small carved wooden moulds, baked and dusted with icing sugar. Easter in the middle east is a bigger affair than Christmas. Children would wear new clothes, the streets will be filled with beautiful smells of cooking heavy meaty meals and the baking of the ma’amoul, the churches will put a microphone out so every one can listen to the easter mass. I remember when i was a child i used to go to church with my christian friend, and i used to cry my eyes out on the stories and the songs describing the christ suffering. After the church muslim families will visit their christian neighbours to congratulate them and bringing them chocolates and sweets. Christians will send their muslim neighbours plates full of their ma’amoul. Those were the days, the very peaceful happy days.
Stephani, your pronunciation of "Rosca de Pascua" is hilarious, you are so funny! Id like to see Natis's face when you pronounce it! Jajajaj what a great video!. Greetings from northen Spain.
That was so cool to learn the history of the crosses on baking and the street vendor cry turn nursery rhyme which we all know!
Great memory, my mothers hot cross buns were amazing. How fun to celebrate each countries traditions. ♥️
I love the vlogs where everyone is gathered together around the table. So lovely.
Love how you do this and allow all of your guests to have something made from their own home country! The kitchen must have had the best aroma! So spicy and would love to have been there to help or just catch some of the aroma! Often the Pascha bread, etc and very specially made Ukrainian painted eggs, and other foods to be eaten on Easter, are placed in a basket by the families and taken to the Eastern Orthodox *catholic/universal* church and are blessed by a Priest the Saturday night during the Vigil service. They place a candle in each one, while service is going on and (in a separate area) and say a blessing.* So the families have blessed food to eat for their Easter! *Pascha* It is great to learn about all the various cultures and foods. It makes it great fun and we can learn to try them as well/ We can look up the recipes online later. I cannot always write it down quick enough while we have the vlog on, but can check it out later. Great vlog, TY!
A delightful vlog! Loved watching you all bake together, trying new recipes that honor the heritage of all Lalanders! You are motivating me to try out the Ukrainian bread. Everything looked so delicious 😘👏🏻
Hello everyone! That will be Orthodox Easter Bread, which is Russian as well. You should also try to make a Pashas; that will be farmer cheese plus sugar and raisins with a mix of nuts. Easter Bread (Kulich) together with Pasha tastes delicious! Orthodox Easter this year is on the 24 of April.
Loved seeing all the varied specialities. The Argentinian one with the cherries looked fabulous. Good on you all.
All the breads looked delicious. A fun day baking ☺️ x
The food, the people, the Chateau...SPECTACULAR! This makes me excited for Easter even though I am watching your video in August from Chicago! 💖💖🐰🐰
There had better be some left for me tomorrow! 😍🥖🥐🥞🥨🍞
There’s so much 😂
It all looks delicious doesn’t it Kirsty 😋😊
It’s possible that Philips taster hasn’t been tasted yet?😉👍❤️
This is perfect timing as I just began my baking day here in Canada.
I sure would like to get ONE of Emily's Sweaters if she's going to start selling them! Her Handiwork is Amazing!
I love how everyone had their own pizza 😃. Never seen it done that way before, we have always ordered that amount, but then everyone helps themselves to any they choose - they just go in the middle of the table for people to share :) Thank you for an enjoyable kitchen session of breadmaking, loved it
I love you all!!! Thanks for brightening my day!
When my mom and then I made Paska we baked it in an angel food cake pan so it had a hole in the centre to accomodate a candle. My auntie used lamb shaped cake pans when there were grandkids in the family. She also decorated the top of her pasks with little dough birds.
Watching you all working together in the kitchen reminds me of being at home when my mum and my sisters and I would all be preparing for a family get together. Somehow even mundane jobs go better when you have someone with you. At the end of the day if everything tastes good that is what matters. Well done Lelanders. 👏🏻👏🏻😘
I’m glad that you are making something from Ukraine. Although I am mainly English, I am also an eighth Ukrainian as my Great Grandfather came over to Britain during the WW II, you can find out more about my Great Grandfather and how he escaped Auschwitz, and travelled all over Europe by listening to a podcast called “unbordered”.
I can't think of a Mexican Easter bread/cake off the top of my head but in America, we have lamb cake which is just a yellow cake made to look like a lamb. No lambs are harmed in the making of it.
I wish you had a recipe e book . Everything looks so scrumptious.
Thank you for working so hard to share your daily doings and your home with us. It is so fun to hang out with your family and magical land. It fills my heart. I’ve always wanted to live in rural France and this is a way to try to manifest that wish. 💞
From the U.S. - yes, we know the rhyme Hot Cross Buns:) All the pastries look marvelous!
All looked delicious. In the US we don’t have a standardized Easter cake. My mother always did a Sour Cream Pound cake with strawberries. So good. Seeing Dan post concert😂 It was so quiet at the concert I’m not sure how they knew they were at one! All the different breads/cakes looked fabulous. This is when we need taste-a-vision! Hearing the history of the breads was an added BONUS!
Why did Dan not go home.?
@@christinastewart4910 He lives at Lalande now.
Many in America make the Italian Easter bread for Easter. It has the colored Easter egg in it
I'm guessing we don't have a standard type because we are a country of immigrants, so people make what was traditional for them (for me that's Polish and Irish mainly and I grew up eating a lot of those traditional foods in RI) or if you live in an area with a large population of a certain ethnicity you could buy what would be traditional. Just my guess.
All of the breads look delicious and colorful. What a fantastic idea to bake together and share with everyone!
Wow, all the buns/cakes looked so delicious. 🎉
Hi! I Never comment in the videos but as an Argentinean I had to say that the Rosca de Pascua looked amazing. It brought so many Childhood memories that now I am in the lookout for one! if everything else fails I will make one myself! 😉 Love your videos!
This was the funniest episode yet, I wish you had filmed when alexia didn’t register the time of Phillip’s baking. Great fun, very uplifting
I want to try them all. What a great wee day you must have had. They all looked fab xx
You have it so nice in your kitchen. The most important is the good intention and the heartfilled effort you put in the baking. They all look very good, and it is cold outside but warm and cosy in the chateau. Trop tôt pour moi de vous dire Joyeuses Pâques!
"Does it look familiar or"? LMFAO " That was a NOooo lol You guys are bloody hilarious!! Made my morning haha! G'day from Victoria, Australia 🙋♀️
The Ukrainian bread is an egg shape, which is perfect!!! Ukrainian decorated eggs are epic! The citrus taste sounds delicious and maybe similar to Italian Pantelone. They Dutch Almond/Fruit one looks like an amazing Bread/Dessert....I love Italian Almond Cakes!!! The Argentinian bread/cake looks delicious, also. And I would love to try Hot Cross Buns since you don't see them around in the U.S. Actually, I've never had any of the ones you all baked. My German-Ukranian Grandmother used to make homemade carmel rolls with the carmel in the bottom of the pan and yeast dough rolled into long rolls. They were delicious 😋 and are one of my favorite memories. She, also, made a dish called Kuchen which was yeast bread in a pie topped with cream and peaches. It was amazing! I would love to see more of international meals! It would be a great series to feature maybe monthly and could be put in a Playlist.
Your grandmother’s dishes sound delicious 😋
Küchen is the German word for cake! 😉 The Pennsylvania Dutch use the word
@@ariellesoullighting4309 Do you happen to have a recipe? I never found my Grandmother's.
@@rankinstudios5342 I am so sorry. I just saw this.. and unfortunately no, and Mom has passed so I can't ask and be assured of getting a detailed answer like you would need for a recipe LOL. Have you tried searching Pennsylvania Dutch or Amish recipe books?
Looks delicious and it was so fun to watch you all making your creations! Happy Easter to you all!
I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and watch you guys baking

It all looks like fun and delicious.
All the breads look yummy. What a wonderful explication on all the different breads. Thank you.
As always, five star content. Thank you.
Oh my goodness. When the making of the breads was happening, I could imagine the divine smells wafting around the kitchen and that was before the baking started. The next morning, well it was quite embarrassing as I watched you all taste-test the breads I drooled quite profusely on myself while thinking "but...I want to join them, now!" LOL! I so enjoy spending time with you. It is the high light of my day. xox
Always so entertaining 👍💖
So sweet Stephanie to make everyone’s homeland bread!! Looks delicious!!!
I showed my family Emily's jumper and they were all in shock, particularly my sister! It's a work of art!

Well that was lovely, makes me want to get the mixer out and make Easter breads. Xxx
I like it when the chateau becomes the UN of food. Diplomacy through yeast is so much better than what i see on the news. Cheers, Santé.

It is sooo magical !!!
I have so missed your theme music, it was lovely hearing it again at the start of the vlog.
Lol our snow drifts are way taller than I am. I’m 5’ 8” . We use a tractor to plow the snow before we can feed our creatures when snowing heavy .was snowed in our yard (roads are not plowed) for 3 days this winter.makes me smile to hear you remark on your dusting of snow.
How exciting to have so many wonderful friends baking together..I love it ..Brilliant…
