  • Christie’s in London would never let anyone handle such rare valuable items with bare hands not without donning a pair of cotton or latex gloves.

  • I can't understand why people take such a low offer, when they could go to auction . Yes I know they would have to pay 20% commission to the auction house. But even so, they would receive more money in return.

    • They might need money now, and sometimes auctions don’t pan out well.

    • Exactly. I know its a show for ratings but do none of these people know of the concept that they could find the people that WANT the item they have and sell it to the collectors.

    • You're kind of skipping the work that goes into finding a buyer. A lot of people would rather take cash in hand for less than full value because they need the money now, or can't be bothered to find a full price buyer on their own.

  • RIck, you need to come to Indonesia. In Semarang alone, especially Kota Lama or Johar street market, Semarang, there's a lot of road side antique stores. They sell many amazing legit antique stuff. Those stuff probably worth thousands of dollar, but only sell for 1 to 5 dollar. They just don't know what they sell.

  • 100,000 at auction means you maybe it sells for $70,000 at auction. They take 20% which leaves you with $54,000 So when someone offers you $50K for an evaluation worth 100K at auction you need cash soon taking $50Grand doesn’t look so bad. 😊
