  • Just got a new kitten today. She already is cuddling on my shoulder and purring. She is the tiniest thing ever! And she goes nuts sometimes, she runs around and slides across the room at top speed, and climbs on our chairs, she already is using the litter box and is eating her food. Her named is Nova, and I love her.

    • Yeah, but that wouldn't be a bad way to go though compared to lots of other ways you could die, if that were possible. But, at the same time I'm glad it's impossible to die of cuteness overload or laughter, or embarassment. Cat videos are the best, by the way. They brighten up any day.

    • I totally agree. I adore cats and kittens. I have a top with a giant picture of a ginger kitten on it, I actually thought I looked pretty stupid wearing it, but I have had so many compliments on it! The funniest was when I was walking to the shop wearing this silly top, and I passed three rather scary teenage boys. One of them looked at me, smiled and said "hey, cool top!" So it would seem everyone loves kittens!

    • There is nothing wrong with kids playing with cats. The kids do not want to harm them. The parents will obviously correct them if they are doing something wrong. Sometimes it just takes time to get used to them.

    • @@Ifinallychangedthis I think you're right much of the time about parents schooling their children on how not to treat cats. Any good and thoughtful parent would. If they bring a cat home, they are certainly obliged to keep the child away from the cat, out of scratch and bite range, until they can teach him or her the do's and don't's of interacting with cats. This is especially important if they let the cat outside. Residue from killing a bird (shudder) or mouse (I even like mice) can make a scratch dangerous and, in rare cases, even lethal because of infection. I'm an idealist and an optimist, but I do worry about the parents who bring cats home from a careless shelter without knowing what they're getting. I've seen videos where parents let their toddler crawl right up to a cat, yank on its tail or ears and, when the cat defends itself and scratches its attacker, the parents retaliate on the cat, when the blame is entirely theirs for letting a toddler they should know can be rambunctious get so close. Good shelters have begun carefully screening people who come in wanting to take home a cat. We were happy to sit through an hour of answering their questions and accepting their conditions, even though we knew what we'd be getting into when we adopted our present cats as feral kittens. Starting when I was five years old, I've had a cat in the home (as a child) or cared for cats for seventy years, except as an undergraduate college student earning a degree in biology. Some people will opt for a cat because they've heard it's less trouble, thinking they're getting a small, dog-like, animal. In case someone reading this isn't aware of it, dogs are omnivores who follow the leader, which is their human master. The cat, as many posting here will know, is a carnivore-a born predator from a species which the unthinking, uncaring realities of nature have shaped over many generations into first-class hunters. In nature, the most skilled hunters not only survive but thrive and live to breed many litters of kittens born with their strong instincts, while cats in the street or country who are ineffective hunters are less likely to survive to have lots of litters. While Nature is not sentient and has no plan, the physical realities of Nature on our planet (some call them "Laws"-reasonable, but imprecise, when there is no lawgiver) have resulted in skilled hunters born of the latest of many generations of ancestors who were, themselves, skilled. The result, though Nature didn't plan or intend it, is that most cats in the wild are skilled at keeping in check the population of mice and other small herbivores. Where a kitten's mother and her litter were living on the street until caught and brought to the shelter, this is the born killer people bring into their homes as a pet. Fed well, treated gently and with respect, it will behave well and give its humans a dignified cat version of love. Cats from breeders will be less aggressive, but are expensive, so many people adopt from shelters. Barn cats are somewhere in between the two depending on how much contact they've had (and what kind) with the owners and their kids. If people adopting a cat from a shelter know nothing about cats, the first time they or their child overstep and get a scratch on the hand, unaware it is their fault, or not caring, they'll lash out at the small animal and/or take it back to the shelter for possible euthanasia down the line, which is both sad and unfair. _If respected and treated well,_ cats will be great additions to a household. I worry about the parents with toddlers who get a kitten or cat without knowing the animal. I'm afraid not every parent, including otherwise good ones, can be counted on to train the child instead of cruelly punishing the cat for being what it is.

  • I loved the video with four or five kittens surrounding the yellow gizmo with a fluffy ball on a string. The kittens kept batting the "ball" back and forth, reversing its path or pushing it along as it swung in a circular path above them. It reminded me of tetherball we played in middle school, where a volleyball on a rope hung from the top of a pole. You won by hitting the ball until the rope was wrapped around the pole in your direction (clockwise or counter clockwise) so many circuits that the ball was hard up against the pole, unable to go further. Your opponent was trying to do the same in the opposite direction. Can the person who made the video please reply to this comment giving the name of the yellow device secured to a plywood base and/or the place they bought it? I'd be grateful. I want to get one for my cats. Thanks!

  • When i got my two kittens, they would sleep sort of ontop of each other, until one decided to sleep on my chest and they both enjoy doing that to this day, 4 years later. Love the two goofballs

  • Why would you take the time to watch if you're going to give a thumbs down? On a side note, having taken in cats/kittens that were mainly strays since I was 5, they are(if you need an easy companion) the easiest pets, and naturally cleanest, to care for. I wish they could stay kittens forever, much like puppies. I love dogs, too, thanks to my husband and in-laws. They are great when you're sad & they know and care when you're blue.

    • Matias, can I make a suggestion, I wonder? Scootle down to your drugstore/supermarket and get yourself a Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc supplement. It should look roughly like this per tablet: Calcium 31% of your NRV. Magnesium 30% of your NRV and Zinc 39% of your NRV. NRV stands for Nutrient Reference Value. I started taking them because I am a post menopausal woman of 63 and I was more interested in the Calcium and Magnesium. But about two weeks after I started taking them my brain started feeling much clearer and sharper. I learned that Calcium and Magnesium also support the Central Nervous System but the thing that was REALLY helping was the Zinc.
