Inside the eye of the storm! The Irish fans sing the Fields of Athenry, after Spain score sending us out of the tournament. Makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

I remember watching this game in Valencia, my home town, and this song kept stucked in my mind, as it showed so much courage and pride in a clear defeat. The day after Spain won the Euro 2012, I went with some schoolmates to Donaghmede, Dublin, to learn English. Once there, in the first week of classes, our teachers taught us what this song meant and their lyrics. Since then, each time I hear it and each time I watch irish people chanting it, I can’t manage to not get emotional. Some years later, when Celtic came to play against Valencia for the Europa League eightfinals, I went to the stadium’s WC during the halftime, where I saw myself surrounded by lots of Irish fans. The deep joy I felt when I started the chant (I saw the chance of my life), and my valencian friends were looking at the massive thing it became, is one of the most unexplainable feelings I ever felt! Long live Ireland!! 💚

I could be crying out of joy, that‘s what the song makes with me!
Thank you for sharing this. It was beautiful. Grá mór do Valencia álainn.
I'm from marbella....ur rite.....spanish galicia n another region is part of the 8 celtic nations.....they even play bagpipes in couple regions in spain.....this song lyrics is unbelievably sad as fk.....omg, the pride of the irish being slaves by oliver Cromwell n king James ii n the potato famine n the irish being colonized n forcefully sent all over the world is incredible the strength of these fighting peoples!!! I've never seen such a strong tougher peoples there pride n fighting spirit is unbelievable.....gracia....Irlande!!! Viva san Patricios battalion......viva marbella....viva irlande!!!

From a protestant Northern Ireland supporter there is something about this song that makes it one of the most powerful in the world and hopefully both countries qualify for many tournaments to come as shown in the euros they put their differences aside and we're easily both highlights of the tournament.
Joe Mckeogh that was then. This is now. You aren’t oppressed Joe. And the lad you are responding to on KZhead definitely didn’t oppress you. He didn’t choose to be born Protestant no more than you choose to be catholic. History is important, you don’t have to forget. But you should forgive.

@@TheKingkeano What are you talking about? Both Catholic and protestants believe in God. You are free to push your atheism beliefs on me, and I am free to laugh at you.
