I have a high respect for all golf course crew workers because they get up that early and are willing to get up that early to make sure everything is perfect for others to have fun. On behalf of a huge golfer thank you.
keelan hammer It's nice to know that some golfers appreciate it! (:
keelan hammer and we're proud of it. REDTAIL Golf Center golf services. 4:30 every Monday morning and pick the entire driving range usually done before 2ish.
Get up at 5 and cut every green by myself then cut rough😁😁😁
keelan hammer you boss
keelan hammer I do this everyday I get up at 4:10 every morning hell one summer just me and my father working on the golf course for 4 months and the golf course still looked good
Nothing beats this job people, I promise you that. Watching the sun rise and getting of at 2:00 everyday never gets old. Turning around on your fairway mower and seeing a perfectly straight line. That's what it's all about.
Roger that
Out at 1:30 pm out here in the beautiful California desert!
I did this for a long time but now I'm superintendent of a private course with a million dollar budget.. bye bye lower standards thank god
Getting high all day on the course, free lunch you absolutely can't beat it
No hiding from boss man and bullshitting with the crew 3/10
Frankda tank 😂😂I know that’s right
Boss man would hide with me from his boss man
Nothing like pouring your heart and soul into a course every day, then you see golfers throwing their beer cans into the bush. 30 years for me, 16 as a super. It'd be the perfect job if you could get rid of the staff and golfers.
I think that's called farming
ryanascotty the first few weeks are cool. Then you start to realize cutting cups while everyone else gets to chill and ride a fucking lawn mower. Starts to piss you off
Cali Greenz try weedeating and digging ditches while everyone mows😂😂
@@caligreenz7868 preach brotha, 2 months in .. straight grunt work
@@andrewashby6090 me last week
Best job ever, with the right crew. Can be a nightmare otherwise.
You can say that again
i recently got a job working for kemper sports and the crew here can barely speak english, so i got one guy training me with semi good training while everyone else i get great help from! Really makes learning a pain in the ass
Yet you complain in a run on sentence and no clue that English is a proper noun.
lmao
4 crew members a pain in my ass
Have a massive respect for all you course workers. You provide a fabulous service to us all who play and we salute you
All I can say is thank you. I have brought coffee / donuts for my 'guys' but I readily admit, it's to influence easier pin placements.
as an avid golfer love this video, you guys are the real heroes! 👍
It sure isn't those useless fucks in the clubhouse
What a Great video!! Now that i think about it, i've never taken the chance to thank everybody at my local golf course for the amazing job they do every day. From now on i will.
I work at the #2 golf resort in the nation and I give these guys much respect. To be able to go out in all sorts of weather to cut grass, rake the bunkers and all the upkeep, takes a special person to do that. You guys are awesome.
I work at a beautiful course called Berkshire Valley in NJ doesn't pay very much but you get 50% off food, free fountain drinks, drive a cool mini dump truck through the woods, find tons of free balls, and play golf for free at 140 courses.
+Bill Whelan what company you work for ???
Bill Whelan I have the same exact benefits
Bill Whelan e
NIce job dude. Gives a good insight into the daily grind we go through. And Gene, as long as were not on the green or interrupting your round, dont worry about where we drive.
I work a small 9 hole course in Hastings MI. We have only 3 guys taking care of the property. If your in the area come ask for me and I'll send ya out for 9 holes with a cart on me. Tee it high and let it fly baby!!!
Cory Micel lucky ass. I have to deal with 18 fucking holes. Cutting cups after hole 4 pisses me off and I’m already tired of the shit.
I live near Hastings can I get out for 9?
@@caligreenz7868damn, we have 36 holes, wish we had that but hey, its a nice course with people who pay good money for it lmao
I am a mechanic in lely golf resort. We have 54 holes here, 3 courses
Ya I work at a small 9 hole course in cork, Ireland. One full time worker and a summer worker as well
My dad is a superintendent, I was around the course maintenance since I was about 3 and I started working at 10 raking traps. I started full-time at 12 and did it till I was 22. I'm 36 now and just went back to work at a course for the first time in 15 years. Never thought I would do it again. I love the work, the pay is low but I don't care. I've only been at my current course three months and I'm allowed to do all jobs, I'm building a nursery green even mostly by myself. It's a great feeling doing a job you are exceptionally skilled at and appreciated for.
I use to work as a groundskeeper at a golf course as well. I loved it. If it paid more, I would go back.
Korsen Stiner did u get to play golf for free?
***** I wish. It was a municipal operation so I was technically a city employee.
+Korsen Stiner I'm a city employee at my course and play free whenever I want
the definitely hasnt changed
An unexpected gem on KZhead. Thanks Micah for sharing a glimpse into a job I had no clue about....with a healthy dose of humanity, humility,....and a good score as well.
Great idea to share. Most golfers don’t realize all of the aspects that need to go into a property. Favorite job I ever had. 6 years in turf, often wish I had stayed in it. So many fulfilling aspects in this career for the right personality. Nice work.
Hi Micah! Thanks for sharing your day's work with us! My younger brother is a grounds crew worker now, and he loves it!
This is insanely impressive as you don’t really see all the work that goes in. A real insight 🙂🏌🏻♂️
Awesome video!!!! I wish I could be a grounds keeper. That has always been my dream job. Thanks for sharing
My grandfather used to own a golf course and did a lot of those things, but I had to at night work in the clubhouse as a bartender as well. Great job. Isn't it so much fun waiting for golfers to move.
I am a grounds crew worker in Illinois, other then getting up at 4:45 am the job is great and time flies by
Great video. Love the peace and quiet and hard work. Late in the season the courses are in such good shape up north and it is a shame to see they are mostly empty during the week. Same care goes into making them great all year long.
This was most helpful. How thoughtful of you.
Great video. I am a grounds keeper at Crystal Downs Country Club. I appreciate this video because you filmed three of the most important things on a golf course 1. Greens. 2. Bunkers 3. Attention to quality and detail. Keep up the great work. I love golf course maintance.
I work in this profession in Iowa. Very nice video. Thank you for taking the time to document your work. A very accurate account but as you know, only scratches the surface :) Nice job!
Being around the golf game in any capacity would be amazing. Much respect
This inspired me to become a bee keeper
I sure do miss all this. Worked at several courses and clubs as laborer, assistant superintendent, and superintendent for small low budget courses in my area. Miss those beautiful early mornings right before the sun hit the majestic course......now I work in a damn factory building excavators cause the golf industies just aint cutting it anymore for me and my family financial needs. I love the video and this just shows a quarter of what really goes on!
Nice course and video. Had a brother that did that kind of work in high school and college and he loved it cause they would go straight from parties to work as they had to off the course before first light.
Oh my god! I've almost cryed... So many good memories at Pete Dye Golf Course. I will never forget the time I spend in USA!
I've never played your course and probably never will, but thanks for all you do. You da real MVP
I like seeing how people do stuff slightly different then how I’m used to , refreshingly cool
I wish we had a crew that big. I work at a beautiful 18 hole course and we have 5 full, 2 part time, a superintendent and a mechanic. Our course would be epic with 24 crew members.
It's pretty great, we can cut every single blade of grass on the course in 5 hours
+Micah Fritz that's amazing. We have 2 guys mow fairways, 2 on greens, 2 empty garbage, then jump on mowing tees and approaches and our super changes cups. That's all in the first 5 hours. After that we split up and do other less important things. I wish we had 2 guys just to do bunkers and hand water but that will never happen. How are these cold mornings treating you right now?
+Chad M I should clarify that we only have that many during the summer season, the rest of the year the crew's down to about 5.
Chad M lol we have 4 full time, 2 casual to do 45 holes :/
@@micahfritz895 This coming week, our crew will be the superintendent and 3 (count 'em 3) workers. One of those workers is dumb as a box of rocks and will take 2 days to do a 3 hour job. At the height of the season, we had 5 plus the super and assistant.
Thank you for making this type of video. From now on I will respect the court alot more.
Did this for one summer. Cutting greens, changing holes, renovating bunkers, everything. Tough work
I worked three different courses, three summers in a row. Enjoyed every second of it. Was the set up guy at two of them and that was fun. Having the old men telling me I set tough pins was always a good time for me 😂.
Thank you for sharing man. Im starting work at a golf course soon😁😁
I'm the (only) mechanic at a country club and every morning I wake up at 4:30 A.M. to head to work and prepare the mowers and work vehicles for everybody. Not only do I work as the mechanic, but I also put in the extra effort to set flags, cut cups, put out water for the members and collect trash, as well as mowing Tee Boxes, rough, or anything else that needs to be cut around the 100+ acres. I love my job, but I wish my coworkers worked as hard...
That’s because you are an over achiever
damn bro, mush respect, we maintain 36 holes, had asmall crew once, was hell but made for better relations from the maintenance crew
Lol I'll hire you if your in california
Our days where I work start anywhere between 4am and 5:30am. Good work!
As someone who works at a golf course, I have made respect for the grounds crew!
Nothing is better than smelling fresh cut grass in the early morning.
I sure do miss golf course work. The only one local to me is family ran and don't hire out. Next one is 40 minutes away but the hiring pay ain't worth the drive. Thanks for making this video so i could show some people what i used to do. The course i worked at shut down years ago, the fancier/richer golf courses nearby had more to offer i reckon. *Have a good'nnn*
Nice man, been at a country club in Alabama for 4 years..love it..currently majoring in Agronomy and Turfgrass so I can be a superintendent..interesting to see the differences in what I do and others do..
That was a good video man. Great looking course! I've been at my course for 15 years now. Golf course maintenance is certainly a unique job. My shift starts at 4 and ends at 12:30. The biggest downside for us is that we are a municipal course, so funds are extremely limited. So lack of man power and trying to get every bit of life out of equipment gets challenging at times. The hardest part of my job is the weather. This Texas heat, humidity, and these mosquitoes the size of a bumblebee have you dreaming of an inside job sometimes...lol.
phisicly a demanding job,a much rewarding one too,been a keeper for a few years now,totaly love it,early starts indeed,all kinds of weather,,proud to be a green keeper, I'm 1st asistant,getting there,👍.good wee vid,cheers,kc Keith, scotland,home of golf,
Cool film to give people a great perspective on what it takes to make the courses look great that we take for granted and get to play.
And that's just a small portion of what it takes.
I'm a big golfer and have a lot of respect for the job you all do. course always look beautiful
cj hambleton except for when we aerate greens by putting all the holes in each one😑
Worked on a golf course for 6 years. Lot of respect.
Course looks amazing
Don't know how I stumbled upon this video, but as a golfer, I have a whole new appreciation for golf courses...you guys work hard. Thanks for your efforts and a very well made video. Cheers.
FLYBOY123456789 as someone who gets up at 6:00 A.M. to mow tees or rake bunkers 6 days a week a appreciate seeing this comment
After you get through the first hour it is seriously one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had
I work at heritage golf course in Hilliard Ohio. We have 25-30 guys so the course is always looking awesome
Such an awesome job.
must be nice having all that nice equipment
pfft right? our higher up wanted more money at the end of the year, so he cut most of golf maintenance budget. now we have resorted to makeshift repairs at times and whatever we have in the shop for the mechanics to mess with and get mad at.
I felt it when it said 5:15 great stuff . From a fellow maintenance crew employee. Keep it up -Rancho San Joaquin Irvine Ca
P.s. I wake up at 4:15 , clock in at 5 .. ehhheemmm just saying Haha jk
I can confirm that this is what happens daily. Super fun job if you like the outdoors, driving carts and gators, and don’t mind a little hard work. Also it’s really fun if you like your co-workers and your boss let’s you work with headphones in. Highly recommend trying to get one of these jobs for the summer.
Sitting here from my office in Corporate America, I miss the summer I spent working on a golf course and wish I could have it back.
I work at river ridge in OR and it's my first job and in fact I love working there so much despite the pay.
I've just been taken on full time after working seasonal last summer. I've got the hang of cutting greens tee's and approaches but the fairways I'm finding difficult. Our hole changer we have to hammer it in😂😂🏴🏴
That course looks like a relaxing place to work
Thank you for wat u do
Great video
I’m always amazed at how pristine most golf courses present on a daily basis. Thousands of yards of fairways and 18 greens, perfect every day. And then I come home and I look at my 10k sqft of grass!
I like this work
G'day , I did this for nine years all by myself. Nine holes but 18 tees , two walk behind greens mowers , one fairway mower and one set of Ransomes Fairway mower , one roughs mower , three hand mowers , two brush cutters , one spray unit , one fertilizer spreader , a couple of hole cutters , one tractor and a lot of rakes , spades , and assorted tools. Low pay but very rewarding..
I love cutting greens early in the morning. It is so peaceful and quiet minus the hum of the engine.
Caden Schmidt yeah I love it in the mornings because the dew is still there to see my lines. Afternoon can be a nightmare, especially brushes up.
I was a GreenKeeper for 5 years in England, loved the job but the pay was awful, wasn't worth getting up at 4am 6 days a week for little to no praise. Great job satisfaction personally but when you have to walk 14 miles hand mowing greens for a horrible wage it soon gets to much
I worked on the Ground Crew at a golf resort in Northern CA.....My morning job was to cut the new hole locations .......My mood that morning after waking up at 3:30 am, driving the 45 minutes to the course and getting started before the sun came up dictated how "tough" the hole locations would be that day.... My boss, the course superintendent, would sometimes get complaints. He would ask me: "wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?". lol.... In all seriousness, loved this job when when working during the spring and summer months between college semesters........ Also, when I planned on playing 18 holes after work, I had the advantage of cutting the hole locations where I wanted to see them :-)
I worked for the biggest private golf club in Canada for 5 years as a mechanic it was awesome
Its interesting to see how other golf courses do their morning prep work.
I work at a course in California we start at 4am and are done by noon love the schedule
Thanks KZhead recommendations I’ve gotten some bangers recently
I am a greenskeeper of 5 years at Cape Arundel Golf Course! Work for George Bush 43! So epic I love this job so much. A job made in heaven. Have been blessed with an incredible super and assistant super and an epic crew. A great job all around.
great job guys
Cutting cups was my favorite job. You get to see all the course by 8 am.
I work at a 27 hole complex with 9 workers, I cut cups, pick up trash, and roll the greens on all 27. Then cut tees, collars, and approaches, then either weedeat where the slope mowers miss or one of several other jobs around here calls for. Speed up your cup cutting by starting where your placing the pin, drop your flag and cup setter, cut the cup take it to the old hole, fill it in with the plug properly, then grab everything and go back to the fresh cut hole set the cup change the flag make sure it's straight and walk away. Also when cutting don't twist it all the way down get it past the grass then pound it down to proper level give it a half turn then pull it out will pack it in and keep it from falling out *helpful hint*.
I'm a groundskeeper in Michigan, love the job but hate doing cups.
haha me too on the cup cutting.
groundskeeper here and yes i also dislike cutting cups
the worst is when you are short someone and have to mow the green and change cups!
I mow all 18 then change all 18 cups ohh wait forgot about the fcking practice green that includes 5 little cups! 😁😁
Cutting cups is my favorite part!
I use the same boots love em. Your course looks really good too. The equipment seems a lot different though. I'm trying to get out to Florida and work on a course there but I'm not too sure if I'd be good enough to make it look as nice as they do. I'm used to Illinois weather, grounds.
Fl. Is 1 hot place in summer
Greetings from Golden Eagle Golf Club in Fifty lakes MN...the thing I hate about working on a course...Irrigation repairs LOL
I wish my day went this smoothly out at the course I work at. We have 6 guys during the summer season and have junk equipment. No designated mechanic or proper documentation for a lot of the things we have. WE just have to wing it and things will go wrong constantly.
hey man. I do the same thing every morning. much respect. much love. (:
Everyone's saying they hate cutting cups but they must not have to rake bunkers manually
honestly isn’t that bad. Cutting cups in wet grass is the worst. Raking bunkers kills time
@@Acturiz I have never disliked cutting cups. I don't know what kind of cup cutter you use, but the one we use makes it easy no matter the conditions.
thanks for sharing the video
I am a grounds keeper at a country club in MN. This is my second year. Love my job. Best job ever. I have a lot of golf balls in my locker that I have found. Lol
i can probably tee off with a pro v1 every day for the rest of my life lol
lord humongous haha I work in the back shop at my country club and I have bags full of pro v1's 😂 love the hidden benefits
lmfaoooo same
Same here. MN country club grounds crew employee and have been playing with a Pro V all summer
Clean then and sell them on eBay 🤑😎🤑
I've been retired for 7yrs and the last 4yrs I've worked at our local public double 18-hole course in north western Illinois. Don't need the money but Free Golf, Beautiful Sunrises, Deer, Turkey's, etc. "Sunrise Over A Golf Course" You see things at sunrise nobody else ever see's. I recommend it to any retiree that wants to keep a spring in their step.
Thankfully so much for keeping these courses at there best every day
North Oaks! I golfed there a ton when I was younger.
this is awesome!! i had a question: what does rolling the greens do?
Much respect
Have been told "I get it" by superintendent where I help sweep the dew about 4 mornings a week. It's not that hard to get it but a lot of people don't get it and those are the same people that don't repair one ball mark, replace a divot, and get their ball out of the cup using a putter and think that's ok. Played front 9 at North Oaks in 1995 in high school and played as our #1 player that day. Having the practice green so close to the 1st tee resulted in Every golfer playing #2-6 that day for all the teams could easily gather around and watch my group tee off. I've never been that nervous hitting a golf ball. Where'd you hit it on 1? I don't remember but it wasn't horrible. 👏👏👏(clapping for the golf course greens crew people, not my tee shot)It's one of the best courses in Minnesota designed by a Canadian and the last in the U.S. that Stanley Thompson would do before retreating to Canada blow all his money.
I worked on a resort while attending college. Started mowing greens at 5am. Then hop on the fairway mower and double cut those. It’s one job I’ve had in my life that I’d do for free. Get out of class in time to play a round for free. Except for the 91 bunkers. Did not enjoy that so much.
I work at hidden trails country club in dexter mo. Love it
Best job possible.
This was a good video
Minnesota? Saw a Twins sticker on a guys mug. Love my home state.
Work get crazy in the summer if you can relate working at a golf course
*My day on the grounds crew back in the day went like this...* Cup cups Stop in the clubhouse and get some free drinks Chop up the beer cart girl for a while Mow some grass Park in the woods and chill, smoke, make phone calls, etc. Weedwhip a few weeds Play a couple random holes Chop up the beer cart girl some more Get off work at about 2pm Go home and nap for a couple of hours Go back to the course and golf till sundown I only made like $8.50 an hour but I got free golf and girls so it was the best job I've ever had.
Where was this? My boss is on my ass if I stop for 2 seconds. He yelled at me for clocking in 1 minute late.
Good job of the video man. About to start my first job as Grounds Keeper. This helps me to look forward to it!
watching this just made me remember my summer at Oakmont country club.
you did not return?
DK I only did it over the summer I graduated from high school. I started college so I wasn't able to do both.
how was your experience there? I started working at an 18 hole course a little over 2 weeks ago. It's been interesting so far.
DK well it's wasn't the greatest. I didn't mind the work I thought it was cool ,but I just hated starting work at 5am and working close to 70 hrs a week. plus I made minimum wage which I though was bs considering it's Oakmont cc
