  • Just hearing this song brings tears to my eyes every time. The words and notes fill my heart till it's overflowing with happiness and wonder (super cheesy, but that's the only way I can explain it). It's insane how music can affect you like this. They captured the essence of the original in every song and even went beyond. I just loved this movie.

And how my parents used to always make time for me. It's all gone now. And I can't have it back.

    • @MarieFoxy I agree. I also love how they used returning characters; if a bit older. Julie Walters taking Hermione Baddley's role as Ellen the domestic, Admiral Boom and Mr Binnacle (Boom in a wheelchair to show either age or as the original is before WWI, active service) and of course, Dick as Mr Dawes, if now as Jr instead of Snr. They definitely did justice to Walt's favoutite classic.

  • One of the great things about this song is that it's easy to blend it with Let's Go Fly A Kite and, unlike the 1964 Mary Poppins, all of the main characters get their chance to express themselves. I really think that the comment about adults "forgetting" won't apply to Michael and Jane anymore since, Michael has his mojo back so his painting will start up again. The budding relationship between Jack and Jane is a great switch since Jack understood that trying to woow Mary was off limits. And there is that stuff about the magic coming from inside which speaks of the power of love. Jack promises the admiral that he will never let go of Jane and Jane doesn't seem to object.

The Banks children aren't the only ones who've seen Mary Poppins before or Jack wouldn't have recognized her....On the stage there seems to be that chemistry between Mary and Jack as performers and remember, Mary actually has Jack carry them on his bike to reach a new adventure.

    • @JustinFields. Yes, growing up with the original classic, I can see where each song aligns with the original story's numbers, and while these are numbers that do stick in your head and should, hopefully, become classics, I still find the original soundtrack more memorable. In saying that, that's from growing up on the classic and only seeing the sequel recently.

      @alking7655@alking76555 жыл бұрын
    • @@alking7655 excellent point and not something I considered but hear me out. In my opinion "Feed The Birds" is similar to "The Perfect Nanny" in terms of theme, but I see it as "Feed The Birds since they are both the sad songs which have a main character teaching us about how one can not lose sight of what is important, like feeding the birds or your the love of your spouse and "Off To Topsy's" as similar to "The Perfect Nanny" as they both involve a character(s) giving the qualifications of someone who will be the fixer of what is broken. In the former, Michael and Jane describe what the perfect nanny should be like who will fix their broken family, while in the remake Mary is describing her cousin Topsy who will fix the broken clay pot .

      @justinfields7661@justinfields76615 жыл бұрын
    • @@justinfields7661 I understand how you see that. However, watching Mary Poppins as an adult, while Jane and Michael direct it as the nanny, IMO, the subtext is what they really want from their parents, particularly George, and Mary tries to display this to George. I now also see "Feed the Birds" as a direct subtext to George. "Their young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare ie, the kids were hungry for love and comfort, "all it takes is tuppence" i.e a little attention. But yes, I do understand your point of it being the kids solution to fix the problem.

Literally, when they showed her onscreen everybody in the theater was "oohing" and "awing" mostly because it was morally but genuinely assumed Miss Angela was deceased! But no...she's almost 93 and still kicking it lol
