  • Nigeria government, especially those in Lagos, they take great delight in marking buildings and demolishing them. Why? If indeed this was about the canals, we saw the commissioner in front of a blocked canal. Have they cleared that first before going on to demolish built structures? A number of these people have their government-issued documents. Even if you have genuine papers, they will still demolish. Did you provide temporary accommodations for these people before rendering them shelterless?

  • Why should the plan of the waterways be a secret document. The Lagos State Government as well as all state governments should make these documents easy to access. It should be on the state government website. Then I won’t spare an iota of sympathy for law breakers whose properties are demolished. I felt pity for the residents.

    @onomeonota23@onomeonota2325 күн бұрын
    • Tbh these plans are easy to access. Before we built 2 years ago we had to do a survey plan and then submit it at Alausa to find out if the land had any issues on it. We were given the c go ahead to get building approval, we submitted close to 15 documents with payments before we got approval before we built. A lot of people in our estate who built several years ago don't even have survey plans talk less of building permits. The Lagos state government agencies are also to blame because they gave us go ahead to build even before we got building permits because we paid some fines and extra money but we decided to follow the process and ensure we complete it

Not to talk of a complete structure in Lagos. Why is it that the government officials that allowed the commencement of these buildings have not been questioned or prosecuted. Were those lands purchased without approval? Media, ask questions to help the masses even if the government is bent on increasing the hardship for the people.

  • Was there any C.Of O., for these properties? And if so, who granted them permission to build their houses along the canals? Because the land speculators usually inform the land buyers that all is well, but it is the duty of the land owners to investigate if their parcel of land conforms with the Lagos State Government regulations. It is a common practice in the developed countries. Never bribe people to secure illegal access.

    • Responsible citizens adhere to rules; ignorance doesn't absolve them. It's glaring when individuals construct on drainage lines-it's plain and evident. They assume the government won't respond because they've bribed officials. While there are legitimate criticisms of the government, citizens must also accept blame. It's time to own up to our actions. My sympathy lies with the tenants who rented these spaces, not the homeowners.

    • This is one of the reasons why it has never worked, it is not working and will never work. In a society that is regarded as a human society, it is the responsibility of the government to regulate the activities of the citizens for a conducive environment. In Nigeria, the government will even encourage wrong things and use same to punish the citizens later. Citizens will continue to suffer until they accept the truth.

I therefore want to use this medium to please come to Sesan moyegun street, ijeshatedo Surulere because we are suffering flooding which results in loss of properties because some people build along the drainage channel thereby narrowing the road and turning two drainage channels to one which in turn affects the rate of discharge of water when it rains.

    • Even in Netherlands, the country is full of water but after 1953 Netherlands flood, One of the engineers in Netherlands brought up a plan and they built a dam to control the waters so after since 1953 there is never flood in Netherlands. Amsterdam is full of water, everywhere in Amsterdam there is a canal there but never flooded. When the city is very clean forget about flood. In Amsterdam they always clean their canals. Lagos is too dirty so the Lagos Government should start cleaning the city and stop demolishing people buildings. It's very sad!
