  • Wow...just wow. Happy for you. What an honor to get to play along with him. Now to get the rest of Wagakki Band in for an interview (maybe your 1.52 million subscribers can get Beni over 100k on KZhead...it's a shame that she doesn't have more viewers). I'm looking forward to to finally being back in Japan this summer for my 60th birthday. Spending a few days in Osaka, a week or so in Tokyo, and a few days in Kyoto (and hopefully a trip up to Takefu Knife Village). Your videos have been an immense help in planning some of the things we want to do in Kyoto, so thank you very much.

I doubt he's ever needed to read sheet music ... It's like lying on a raft as you float down a river, if that makes sense. Thanks for sharing this video with us!! Looking forward to part 2! ☺️

  • Incredible video! Daisuke-san was and still is great inspiration for me! Thanks to him (and whole Wagakki band as well) I decided to learn japanese, and been going with it for 4-5 years now, slowly progressing and enjoying every bit of it! Thanks to his amazing skills and performance I've fallen in love with the sound of shakuhachi and been learning it for about a year now. Lately we had amazing workshops with Kogetsu Maekawa Sensei here in Poland, and it revitalised my love for this instrument and the sounds I can create with it. Some day while in Japan, maybe I will have an opportunity to see the Wagakki Band concert or meet Daisuke-san and just thank him for opening my mind to a new journey I am currently on. Thank You Shogo for this video! Its is so amazing to get to know the story and reasons of Daisuke-san for why he started to play Shakuhachi, as gaming and cinematic music especially when flutes come into play are main reasons which push me forward on this journey as well (getting goose bumps everytime I hear any kind of flute - especially Shakuhachi)!

In fact I raised with sound of those instruments and some Japanese culture and history so when I hear those instruments it is not sound foreign for me at all it is like you playing my music.

  • Kaminaga Daisuke's embouchure appears to be unique from my (very limited) experience as he is frequently holding the shakuhachi at a slight angle to his left. It certainly works nicely for him (I must give it a try). I've noticed that many trad. Irish pennywhistle players hold and blow their instruments in this position.
