People in comments dont seem to understand what TAS means in the title. This is a tool assisted speedrun (TAS) meaning it was played with a variety of modifiers. Judging by the way they dodged the mancubus shots flawlessly it was likely using a combination of slow motion, frame-by-frame slow motion and save state abuse (reloading on death to continue a few frames before where they died). It's still very difficult to pull off but feel like tas needs to be clarified for the newbies.
They should call it “TIME assisted speedrun” because it saves so much time compared to redoing it from the start every time you die. I mean, TBH
@@brentreid8228 tas is not about skill, its more of a proof of concept for the smallest time possible

Doom is a reasonably entertaining scifi with almost nothing in common with the except one badass scene. In the second, Doomguy is a girl, as Hollywood still hasn't realised that replacing men with teenage girls doesn't work.
46:40. Holy shit! 1% health in a blocked hallway with a cyberdemon bearing down on you!
For 1% health, that chaingun guy he killed probably posed more of a danger than the cyberdemon. But still, yeah, that was sick.
Someone said this was an assisted speedrun with use of tools and this seems to be proof. Looks like he was hit several times but stayed at 1%.
LotsOfBologna2 : you need to familiarize yourself with speed running. The title says TAS, which stands for Tool-assisted Speedrun. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool-assisted_speedrun IIRC he only uses slowdown, he still does all the movement and I don’t think he has it so he’s incapable of dying, that would take all the challenge out of it and that’s not what this guy is about.
@@spinningchurro NVM you explained it to em we good here
@@LotsOfBologna2 Basically he narrowly avoided hits. That's the beauty of watching TAS; you learn new things about the game's mechanics :) My favourite example of this is in SMB1 runs where the player appears to never take damage from piranha plants. In reality, they're just exploiting the funny way their hitboxes work; at the very apex of Mario's jump, he appears to pass harmlessly through their lips, but once you see it done, you try it and realise you can do the same thing in normal play. TAS is an incredible opportunity to learn new ways to get better at games.
Bravery isn't the absence of fear, its doing what's right in the face of it.
Courage isn't the absence of fear, it's trying a new tactic when you realize fear hasn't been working for you.
Probably the most impressive thing about this is that a 25 year old game engine can handle this type of map. I can't think of another engine that can handle this many enemies and variables going on at once. Carmack really is a genius and the "Einstein" of the gaming industry.
Indeed. idTech engine is a beast and the few ones that could have large maps crawling with enemies. Most of game engines wouldn't be able to run it lagless or run it at all.
Of course, you can't forget that this is only possible with limit-removing source ports. The vanilla engine would crash with as little as Sunlust.
i really wouldn't count it as a 25 year old engine when you consider the changes made in source ports
Another game that can do this is serious sam with the serious engine

TAS really brings out the beauty of fighting, a real ballet of death with the abominations of Hell.
Even TAS-less is the same. The only difference is that you constantly got owned by random stuff. Oh well, it's not a big deal in hell, I suppose. I have been playing it for quite a while and I feel like not everything is that hard. For example, starting "ladder" with imps, the room after it, viles spawn, long road with fatties and flying strawberries are doable as separate segments without save-load. And many other rooms too, but not all, sadly. Some are just too random and insanely hard. But with save-load still doable. Very good wad for skills polishing.
