  • Im Mexican, and I can tell you something about tacos. They can be made out of whatever you want, yes: any kind of meat, any kind of condiment or sauce including MAYO, any kind of vegetables, beans, cheese, guacamole, fish, shrimp, and so on... any combination of, literally, anything you want. I dont understand the people saying "thats wrong", "you shouldnt use mayo", "it should be done this or that way", etc. If you take a soft hot tortilla, put something edible inside, roll the tortilla and eat that, then thats a TACO. Although I should throw something out here... in México, if you use a soft hot maíz tortilla, thats a TACO. If you use a stiff toasted tortilla, thats a TOSTADA. But I understand and respect that in the USA some people use bended toasted tortillas and call them tacos. Its their version.

  • So many people crying in the comments about how this is "not authentic mexican" WHEN DID HE SAY IT WAS AUTHENTIC FUCKING MEXICAN? NEVER. It's common practice with creative chefs to take IDEAS and alter them or combine them with different flavours and textures to make something that tastes good. It's based on the IDEA of a taco. It's not supposed to be authentic mexican. Who gives a flying fuck as long as it tastes good? That's the whole point of food. The way you make a name for yourself as a chef is not by replicating exactly the "authentic" recipe that has been done millions of times but through creativity. I never make Gordon's recipes but I take a lot of the ideas on board and create my own food. Same goes for ANYONE I see making tasty food. I take their ideas and run with them, that's what cooking is about, not following recipes to the letter!

    @TheJim9191@TheJim91919 жыл бұрын

    • Only people with authentic cuisine, cuisine that is world heritage would understand (that's why Italians react the same way about fake pizza or shitty pasta). If your cuisine is trash or you don't have cuisine heritage at all (mostly US people because of the lack of culture), you won't get it. And following your logic... If you want to get creative at cooking, then get creative with the fucking name as well and come up with a new one for your fucking Frankenstein.

    • He doesn't need to taste finished dish if he tasted parts of it mid work (to adjust flavour). In a restaurant where dozens of plates are going in and out every hour he needs to keep good quality without tasting every serving. So full answer is that he doesn't need to taste his own dishes because he knows how they taste like.

And another way is if you're using clarified butter, when the butter "sheens" or starts reflecting light becoming almost silvery in a way, imo, the easiest, cleanest.and safest way to tell once you see it onces or twice and get a hang of it..

    • This isn't his attempt to make an authentic Mexican taco...it's his take on one of Mexico's greatest cultural creations. That's why he emphasized the use of ingredients from all over the world, notice he didn't even use tomatoes which is a staple in Mexican and greater Hispanic cuisine. Personally I like more traditional foods with local ingredients but I appreciate his global take on a Mexican taco.

  • I don't ever plan on being a chef or opening my own restaurant. But I would love to someday impress family and guest with delicious meals. And who better to take lessons from than Ramsey himself? Chef, if you are reading this comment, I'd like for you to know that I've learned so much more from watching your media than just cooking... I've learned that you have to work especially hard in life to reach your top goals. You have to be consistent, and work fast enough to meet deadlines but just slow enough to add a bit of love to your work. You have to take criticism no matter how harsh and learn from it. I'm applying these lessons and inspirations to my art and literature. And for that, Chef, I say thank you.

  • For those of us without a gas range, you can still give the tortillas their shape if you drape them over the racks in the oven and let the edges hang down. Leave them in there on low heat for a few minutes, and check on them periodically so they don't completely dry out, but they'll be crispy and hold that U shape to load them up with toppings. Corn flour tortillas work best, but regular old white or whole wheat ones work just as well.

Water - slightly - just enough to soak the cornmeal but not drown it - let the water do the work - sugar - not too much - just a dusting over the top - cook until water evaporates - metal spatula - scrape the bottom until the flakes surface - flip them and cook till dry. Meanwhile, bowl - ceramic - large enough to contain the flakes when covered in milk - whole milk - strawberries - remove tops and split evenly down the middle and cross cut- careful - remove flakes from pan and let them rest - place in the bowl - slowly immerse in the milk and place strawberry slices on top - spoon - don't use a small one - trust me on this". I mean yeah sure, every country or place gets their hands on international goods and makes their own. But you wouldn't see someone from China question a Scottish person on their haggas. Or a Punjabi telling a japanese person about their salmon roll sushi. Just because America has a Taco Bell that sells some blindingly white tortillas doesn't mean that's how the dish is supposed to be cooked.

      @tricepratops@tricepratops8 жыл бұрын
    • +DannyBskating ;-; Lol seriously? Oil is fat. Non-negotiable. Also steaks, unless it's grade A5 Kobe, should have some fat in the pan because unlike bacon, the fat doesn't render out enough to cook the surface. Basting steaks with olive oil and steak juices incorporates more flavour and helps prevent drying.

  • Dudes I'm Mexican and I feel very happy to see this video and even more exiting watching Gordon making tacos but here in Mexico there's no place that does that kind of shape or puts green stuff on the taco (except for the coriander, onion and the spicy sauce), well probably if you go to the coast and you ask for seafood tacos maybe they will include other kind of stuff however the normal ones are not like that, but I have to say they look great.

  • As a mexican, i can confirm that it IS a taco The most important part of a taco, even more than the meat, is the tortilla. It can be corn tortilla or flour tortilla (flour tortillas are mostly used in northern Mexico or for quesadillas in restaurants), but tortilla at the end. The reality is that in Mexico we can make tacos out of anything: we can have chopped meat, and if we put it into a tortilla, Bam! taco, we can have fried eggs, we put some of it in a tortilla and Bam! taco, we can have baked potatoes, we put 'em in a tortilla and Bam! taco. The greatest essence of the taco is the tortilla even more than the ingredients. That's why hard shell tacos are not tacos and are more like tostadas. And that's also why Gordon Ramsey's tacos ARE real tacos.

    • Hahahaha Yes, my brother, fellow compatriot I see you're a man of culture, good taste and traditions. It just pains me to great extent how there's no salsa around, dressing can't even begin to compare. Si, que son tacos, carnal; pero sabemos en lo profundo de nuestras almas que hace falta algo: salsa. Ese wey debe conocer mexicanos jóvenes/adultos, es muy probable, calentar las tortillas directo al fuego es bien de "vieja escuela" (proveniente de la mamá del susodich@) . Jaja

      @lovecrafted@lovecrafted5 жыл бұрын
    • @@lovecrafted No soy experto en el tema, amigo, mi punto era que si conozco los datos que mencionas, pero.... nació aquí carnal, si no la fundación si la especialidad. No habrá tacos como los mexicanos en ningún lugar, no es tan fácil como el sushi o la pizza, tal vez en forma pero no en espíritu. Tienes que reunir un aura, que es una mezcolanza entre sabores, tradiciones y algunas idiosincrasias; el objeto en donde se hacen: casos; la forma en la que se despachan: llámese tipo de tortilla, con lo que se acompaña o las salsas y el orden; y por último está la "idea": si todo fuese taco, entonces las quesadillas que no llevan queso podrían ser tacos, pero no, son quesadillas, es algo que se sabe y punto. El punto es, si, estos si son tacos, pero no son tacos mexicanos, imitaciones pues. Y si, solo son tacos cuando cumplen ciertas características, hay limbos, hay interpretaciones, pero si hay líneas básicas. Estos si son tacos. Los de los Simpson y que sirven como fritos, no son tacos, parecen tostadas o quekas, pero quién sabe, tacos no. Los de guisado y canasta son vacíos legales o ilegales dependiendo el territorio del país, cómo lo de las mentadas quesadillas. Ya por último, lo tacos, tacos, los de a devis, son los que llevan alguna proteína o combinación de ellas sobre tortillas regulares, hechas a mano o no, acompañado de verduras y para finalizar una generosa porción de salsa, ya una guarnición es opcional; además del orgullo mexicano, para que sean auténticos.
