Lyrics
Like a warrior that fights
And wins the battle
I know the taste of victory
Though I went through some nights
Consumed by shadows
I was crippled emotionally
Somehow I made it through the heartache
Yes I did. I escaped.
I found my way out of the darkness
I kept my faith (I know you did), kept my faith
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me, no no
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
With an endless desire
I kept on searching
Sure in time our eyes would meet
Like the bridge is on fire
The hurt is over,
One touch and you set me free
No, I don't regret a single moment,
No, I don't (I know you don't) looking back
When I think of all those disappointments
I just laugh (I know you do), I just laugh
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
So we were drawn together through destiny (oh, boy)
I know this love we shared was meant to be
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
George Michael came to Detroit and did 2 nights of his Faith concert. What an extra special treat when he said he usually had to do this duet by himself "but not tonight! Please help me welcome Aretha Franklin!" And we got to hear this as it was meant to be heard. What a special experience!!
WOW ....
Some people are indeed lucky.
Lucky you ...

Both of their deaths hit me pretty hard. It is never easy losing your music heroes because there's such a big part of your life. This masterpiece and this duet is one of the greatest to ever be recorded by two of the most iconic voices in music history. Their legacy and this song will outlive us all. Maybe both continue to rest in peace.❤

They sounded so good together. Who knew their voices were so complimentary? Great song!! R.I.P. Aretha & George!!
Exactly if someone had suggested they duet I wouldn’t have thought it a good idea but this is magic.

So beautiful! Miss them both.😔
THE BEST 🧡 EVER ♥️ FOREVER 💚
Clive Davis knew. That's why it happened.
This song went to No 1 on Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.
To those who think this is a love song - it is to GOD - Aretha and George proclaiming their faith in plain sight: When the river was deep I didn't falter When the mountain was high I still believed When the valley was low it didn't stop me, no no I knew you were waiting. I knew you were waiting for me May they rest in peace and rise in glory.
But it could be interpreted as either,I suppose.
Still a love song
It is a beautiful love song and also a beautiful prayer. However you consider it, it gives you hope and lifts your spirits I guess.

@@TV-ob1if... really??? To "even" be in her presence???? Who do you think he was??? Not worthy of singing just absolutely awesome....Let me tell you something, not only was he worthy and extremely able to hold his own above and beyond, with all due respect for Mrs. Franklin, against her, but against anyone else for that matter... you might be somewhat bias and racist to your race and like making people feel less, especially when it's someone not of your race... you're just like The LeBron James's of the world... grow up and really learn to appreciate and recognize real music and true musical genuine geniuses, instead of making stupid ass comments...

George Michael was one of the rarest male performers in duos (with greatest female performers) who would act as the perfect golden or platinum frame aimed at showing females' precious vocal gem. He had never ever tried outperforming or putting himself too forward in duos. What a fine gentleman he was even in singing.
That's so well said. George is something else and an absolute gentleman

How god damn stunning was Aretha in this. What an absolute angel she was. And may I also add that George Michael is one of the greatest male voices ever to stand in front of a microphone. This is pure gold.
Apparently they got on so well together while recording this song. The producer Narada Michael Walden said they created fire together in the studio, they loved and respected each other and in his words "It's right there on the record" George said working with Aretha was THE highlight of his career personally, a dream come true. What a great great song.
Our Aretha would set everything on fire, the fire was in her heart, what a woman.
You can see the love and chemistry in the video. It's such a joy to watch the two of them together.
He was so nervous yet happy to do this with her LOL She originally also wanted him to write a song for her and produce it but he was nervous to do that
rolybling And it was George who went to Clive Davis and SPECIFICALLY asked to record with Aretha as he could’ve recorded with ANYONE and he was intimidated at first when she started hitting those high notes as it’s said she shook the walls and floor of the studio (literally) it was that powerful. Amazing talent from them both, I’m missing them both. Rest in love and peace you both and thanks for your fine music, REAL MUSIC...

George was living the dream then, I tell ya. He was maybe 24, 25 years old, on top of the world with Wham!, and got to do a duet with the Queen of Soul. It just doesn't get any better than that.
He was living the dream. He seemed very happy and then something changed with him. It wasn’t the thrill he had thought it would be. He would have been much happier doing his music without promoting any of it. Can’t say I blame him. The media and some fans were out for blood.
@@MM-hq2xb When you get to be as big as he was, you're not a musician any more, you're a product. I don't think he liked that. He wanted to just go on like he had been, making his music his way, but the Powers that Be™ wanted him to go in different directions. 2 of the BEST EVER!❤❤❤
Aretha in her Prime
One of the best collaborations in music history!
This amazing duet spent 2 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard charts in April of 1987! Legendary!
George you really made the best music. You have really changed my life. Love you forever
My all time favourites!!! Goose bumps everytime. ❤️❤️
One of my all time favorite duets!! RIP George and Aretha. Two legends with voices to boot!! Omgh why all of a sudden I'm crying :-(
imari2305 I don’t know but mine eyes just got watery. I had this on a 45rpm record.
I feel the same way...
It was a single with the flip side being only instrumentals. The latter was my favourite. I could played it all day! Oh where can I get it now? It is not on youtube.
imari2305 Me too!
It's not a duet out here right now that Can top these two rest in peace 😭😢 Aretha Franklin and George Michael 😍
What a beautifully sang song. Aretha Franklin sang this song with almost no effort at all and hit some great tones, and George Michael did a great job keeping up with his great vocals. This is definitely an underrated duet.
Yeah, her voice is just sensationally effortless, wow!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The perfect song for them, don't think it could be improved on.
Aretha was like that- she'd belt out a great song and it DID look effortless for her. 💖
Wqw
I listen to him everyday
JOHN 3:16 ❤
She looked so beautiful here. They both did. RIP babies.
Como você é linda ❤😍
Tania Thomas It gives me a great feeling to watch this song. They were perfect together. And both looking happy, sassy and having a great time.
Tania Thomas, yes both of them looked so beautiful in this video. I remember watching this video in the 1980s I was a Teenager lady and I surely do missed watching the Videos of the 1980s. So many memories RIP to them. Also, you are beautiful.
Tania Thomas yes! Gorgeous 😍
We can all be there where they are, WOWED! by the choir, and jam outs going on!
Still listening in 2022! Anyone else??!!
Yep still listening - just the best song and singers PERFECT!
George Michael was the man..no wonder all the big names wanted to work with him and him more so with them.. I'm sure alongside Freddie, and his mate Elton, if George was alive his film would be right up there with the rest.... They do not make them like they used to.... He was truly one of a kind, unapologetically so...
I am! Rio de Janeiro, Brasil ❤️❤️
I am, for certain. Has it really been 35 years?
@@Juliaflo yes, it has...
