Lyrics
Like a warrior that fights
And wins the battle
I know the taste of victory
Though I went through some nights
Consumed by shadows
I was crippled emotionally
Somehow I made it through the heartache
Yes I did. I escaped.
I found my way out of the darkness
I kept my faith (I know you did), kept my faith
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me, no no
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
With an endless desire
I kept on searching
Sure in time our eyes would meet
Like the bridge is on fire
The hurt is over,
One touch and you set me free
No, I don't regret a single moment,
No, I don't (I know you don't) looking back
When I think of all those disappointments
I just laugh (I know you do), I just laugh
When the river was deep I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
So we were drawn together through destiny (oh, boy)
I know this love we shared was meant to be
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting
I knew you were waiting,
Knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me
I didn't falter
When the mountain was high I still believed
When the valley was low it didn't stop me
I knew you were waiting.
I knew you were waiting for me

  • George Michael came to Detroit and did 2 nights of his Faith concert. What an extra special treat when he said he usually had to do this duet by himself "but not tonight! Please help me welcome Aretha Franklin!" And we got to hear this as it was meant to be heard. What a special experience!!

    • Both of their deaths hit me pretty hard. It is never easy losing your music heroes because there's such a big part of your life. This masterpiece and this duet is one of the greatest to ever be recorded by two of the most iconic voices in music history. Their legacy and this song will outlive us all. Maybe both continue to rest in peace.❤

( I already had the volume blaring.) By the first time it got to the first chorus "When the river was deep, I didn't falter ---when the mountain was high, I still believe me. . . ." I just heard the words in a new way. THEN IT IT JUST HIT. BAM. And the tears began to flow, FULL THROTTLE. DAMN..A mirror to my youth cracks. A door slams that will never open again. The man she married was a sorry excuse for a step-father to me. He treated me like shit, now he's six feet under, died from cancer 😠!!!! But my mom is a breast cancer survivor and she is 78 years old.🙌 Praise God for having her in my life this long!!! I have two half siblings, they are his and are grown now!! My father died in Zebulon NC at his home at the age of 58 years old. I was his only child, and he loved me I miss him so much 😢😢💔. But he's in my heart every day in spirit 👼💔 peace out for now ok, Freewarrior2, from Aretha White from Bunn NC!!!✌✌✌✌👍👍

  • What a beautifully sang song. Aretha Franklin sang this song with almost no effort at all and hit some great tones, and George Michael did a great job keeping up with his great vocals. This is definitely an underrated duet.

    • George Michael was the man..no wonder all the big names wanted to work with him and him more so with them.. I'm sure alongside Freddie, and his mate Elton, if George was alive his film would be right up there with the rest.... They do not make them like they used to.... He was truly one of a kind, unapologetically so...
