  • Everyone who thinks me getting ripped of was drug related needs some help. *I've never done any kind of illegal drug. (Not many people can say that) I replaced the guys brothers tie rods the day before when they didn't pay everything and said they would "Pay the rest later" That's what happened. I just didn't have time to explain all that in this SHORT. :)

    • People are very selective with their hearing. Told a customer it was gonna be around €200 for material and I needed to calculate the hours. I call him back with the full price "but you said €200" for material yes not for the whole job. He got mad because he didn't listen. (Actually came a little lower on materials but i'm not putting in 12 hours for €20.) am I the asshole?

    • @Bones McGillicuddy I get your point and totally agree. Strangly enough i'm in a sector where there is no middle ground. People think it's really easy and cheap or really difficult and expensive. Hate it when people say an hour tops and then end up spending two days on something absolutly minor. Still my point was the selective hearing of me saying "material cost" vs "full cost" of the project😅

Second was in 1996, on a Geo Metro for $350, including parts, helping a friend. Parts bought were wrong, took a few more days to get the right parts. Meanwhile the gal, bought another car and sold me the Metro for $100. I fixed the clutch and repaired a damaged hood. Had about $500 into it, gave it to my brother-in-law, who needed a car. It had 75,000 miles on it. He drove it for 19 months and sold it at work in 5 minutes for $1150. He bought a larger car for his family. So I didn’t run into the problems you did. Most people are quite honest, there are however, some strange ones, these are the ones we need to pray for and keep away from. God bless you and your family!

  • I'm fortunate I can afford others to work on my car. However, it doesn't mean I can't work on my car. I took my 2013 Prius C to a shop that's suppose to specialize in Hybrids. I explained that the auto function on the climate control sticks and when it doesm not works and you can't turn it off. He turns the A/C on and says, "It works fine now". I explain the problem is intermittent and he says, "But it works now". I explain the driver's side bumper keeps popping out and it need a new bumper retainer. His answer, "We don't do body work". I tell him it's not body work, the bumper cover just pops out. Just bolt in the new bumper retainer. He says, "We don't do body work". I said, "Just forget it. I'll fix it myself!".

He ended up on the ground on my side with a 50 dollar asshole fee added to his bill. Later he told me he didn't work for free and I told him neither do I. True story.

  • I remember selling my truck for scrap price while the title wasn't transferred (it's legal as long as you have an affidavit) because the repairs would be too much for me to pay. So I took an $80 hit for the work he did and walked away with $120. I ended up moving and hour away and 2 weeks later I get a call from him telling me to come down to the shop to transfer the title so he can repair it and sell it. Like...are you serious? He tried to get the cops involved, but they shut him down. From what I heard, the truck is still sitting right out the front of his shop, and it's been 3 years.

  • Lesson here is, never give quotations with 2x the difference in cost. Know what you're getting into before you touch the car and be more precise with the cost. The dude wasn't wrong entirely. For you it may not be but a $200 increase on a job where you said it could be for $450 is an unreasonable hike in cost. Regardless of your initial quote. Learn that customers always assume the favour on their side. Work wise and be fair.

I stopped doing it cause to many ppl started getting bilergerant with prices. When fuel price went up my price went up same with every thing else. Biggest reason for stopping was tired chasing ppl away from my equipment with a marble bat i made. Theyd try have one person distract me while 2 other were goin after my rig.

  • Mine was a 08 crv alternator. Not the job itself, the circumstances. The guy knew I was not a professional mechanic shop and was just working on cars for some side money, using my own free time. Dude pulls up and mentions something about me working in my garage and is upset I’m working out of my houses garage? Weird but ok start talking to him and says he can’t just drop it off and needs it done now. So I’m like ok let’s let the car cool off and I’ll start taking the alternator apart. He says he can’t wait for it to cool so I ask him if he needs to do it another day, he says no so I go inside and grab him a drink. Can’t find the guy anywhere so I start looking around don’t see him. I start to work on the car and he shows up out of nowhere and is talking my ear off as I’m working on this random man’s piping hot crv. He’s rushing tf out of me saying he needs to pick his kid up. I mind you he’s only been at my house for 45 mins…. How fast do u think an alternator job is??? Finish the job and about a week later he texts me saying the car is making a noise. Oh hell nah blocked his number. Crazy mf bro. Had a bad feeling that entire time.

On the other hand I’m a contractor and always shoot pricing straight forward in a contract that clearly states that any extra expense or labor is on the customer. I hate being a ass right off but you have to cover yours . Let your work and name stand for itself and consider collecting 1/2 up front that way the job isn’t a total loss
